iPhone 7 Smart Battery Case - White
Engineered exclusively for iPhone 7, the Smart Battery Case gives you even longer battery life while offering great protection. Inside, a soft microfibre lining helps protect your iPhone. And on the outside, the silky, soft-touch finish of the silicone exterior feels great in your hand. A soft elastomer hinge design makes it easy to put the case on and take it off.
Charge your iPhone and battery case simultaneously for increased talk time up to 26 hours, Internet use up to 22 hours on 4G LTE, and even longer audio and video playback.* With the Smart Battery Case on, the intelligent battery status is displayed on the iPhone Lock screen and in Notification Centre, so you know exactly how much charge you have left.
This case supports Lightning accessories, such as the Lightning to USB Cable (included with your iPhone), and works with the iPhone Lightning Dock (sold separately).

However, you will no longer be able to Wirelessly Charge the iPhone 8 because the Battery in the case obstructs the wireless charging coil in the phone. If you are fine trading off wireless charging for more battery or if you just charge with the lightning connector, I recommend this case.

The way it works is the phone runs off the case battery first, and then when the case is depleted, starts using the internal phone battery. When charging with the case on, the phone battery is charged first, and when that is full, then the case battery is charged. There is no switch or software control to change this behavior. If you don't want the case battery used first, you'd need to take off the case.

The NFC chip is in the top of the phone, which is not obstructed by the battery on the back of the case. I have had no problem Apple Pay-ing for things with the case on my iPhone 7 and 8. Just make sure that you get the top 1 inch of the phone near the place where you are supposed to "tap" the phone.
