Great Keyboard at an inflated price and lacking pro features

The keys are tighter, shallower and have less travel than the older keyboards. If you haven’t used one of the newer models I recommend you try it out before buying. Even though my work computer is a PC, I still use an Apple keyboard. Like almost everyone else I’ve been waiting for a matching keyboard to the black keyed and space gray MacBook Pro. Apple originally stated that this keyboard would be exclusive to only the iMac Pro. Unfortunately this feels like a money grab for Apple. They must have been feeling left out with these showing up on eBay for hundreds of dollars over the retail value. The space gray version has a twenty dollar premium over the white keyed version which is not unusual for Apple to do for a pro version. But I’d be happier to pay the extra for the matching color and pro features like a backlit keyboard but they didn’t include the backlight. I’d be even happier if they donated the money to a good cause like they do with product red. In the past Apple has unfortunately made all the black keys with different connectors so it’s impossible to swap the keys into a white keyboard (black keys are cheaply available online). I’m happy they’ve finally added another color but you can’t help but feel like a sucker for paying for it. Two stars off: one for the price markup for the color and one for the missing backlight.

Inflated Price for The Apple Brand

I have had this keyboard for 2 weeks. I bring the space gray keyboard home opened the package connected to my Macbook Pro 2017 without any issues. My complain I have had this keyboard for 2 weeks. I bring the space gray keyboard home opened the package connected to my Macbook Pro 2017 without any issues. My complaints about this keyboard is not backlit and none of the great innovative features from my Macbook Pro keyboard are on this keyboard. The keyboard works great no adjustment takes getting use to. My take on this keyboard is if you do not need a new keyboard right now I would wait or seek out cheaper alternatives. If you are a Apple lover and want everything in our office Apple then this keyboard is for you.

I assumed the key layouts would be similar, but it's actually a different design to the US version.. I live in Aus but I'm returning my UK version for a US version so I can reach these critical keys.. WEIRD. Check the photos of the different versions carefully before buying!!

Too shallow / hurts my fingers

It still works, just figured i could do with a fresh one. Old keyboard had two usb sockets - great for a wired keyboard / printer - this hasnt got those, so you loose an extra usb socket or two. Old keyboard for me is just the right height and key travel - feels nice to type on, this does not feel nice, after a week using it, i keep thinking 'oh god, i have to use that keyboard again' versus not thinking about using the old keyboard. I think this uses the much publicised 'butterfly' mechanism - it has less key travel to the old keyboard which basically means your fingers can feel like they are typing on concrete. Its also very low down versus the old keyboard which had more of an angle, accommodating two usb sockets. I started off wanting a backlit keyboard to replace my old 7 year old apple keyboard. I started with editorseys backlit keyboard which suffered from random ddouble kkey ppresses which i would class as a 'fault' editors keys charged me £5 for postage out to me and didnt refund my return postage of £4, so I was £9 out of pocket with these clowns. 2nd. Logickeyboard astra backlit keyboard - when coming back from sleep for the 2-3 time, the keys did not work - usb hub and backliting worked, so again, had to post back to them in Denmark. 3rd - this 'magic' keyboard which I will return and revert back to my old apple keyboard - i might try and find a new-ish one of ebay maybe as apple doesnt make a keyboard i want anymore. 4th - last hope, arriving today is a £55 Logitech windows backlit keyboard k740 which I hope and pray will work as its a more regular keyboard versus this form over function / anorexia over a cheeseburger mess. If this is an indication of apples macbook keyboards I wont be buying their laptops again either, such a shame though, apple were never known for their excellent peripherals.

No Backlit on Space Gray Keyboard

That could be a great feature for the future wireless keyboards.
