I am writing a car-share matching program and wonder whether solid-state memory has better access speed than hard drive as well as better bandwidth

    You can definitely feel the difference in speed. Like other people who have changed from a HDD to a SSD say: it feels like you've bought a newer macbook. Another point to consider is your SATA speed. Personally, my Macbook had SATA II with a SATA 1 HDD. Now, with this SSD, I have SATA II on both the MacBook and the SSD. So there definitely is better bandwidth and better access speed.
