How do you type special characters with this keyboard, such as ō, œ, ã, etc?
The only way I have found so far to do this is to deactivate the keyboard by lifting up the iPad. Without the keyboard these letters can be accessed by holding the key down, but holding down the key doesn’t do anything with the keyboard.

Best Answer:
If you have the apple keyboard folio for iPad Pro (It may apply for other models, but haven’t test), you can use the key “option”.
For example:
To add “é” - Press at the same time the key “option” + the key “e” and then press one more time the key e.
Here is a list about the options we have available:
Option + e then the desired letter (a, e, i, o or u) results: á, é, í, ó, ú
Option + i then the desired letter (a, e , i , o or u) results: â, ê, î, ô, û
Option + n then the desired letter (a, n or o) results: ã, ñ, õ
You can use the same approach in order to find other combinations.- Answered by Luiz Felipe D from Saint-laurent

It is possible to use the Smart Keyboard with these special characters. All you have to do is use the “Option” button and then press down a key. For example to get “œ” hold down “option” and press “q”. This works for a variety of characters but you might have to play around to find the right one. After that it is easy. For example I am learning German and now it is easy to incorporate umlauts. I just hold down “option” then press “U” and then the letter I want to add an umlaut to.
