can i connect the Airport Extreme Time Capsule to my old Time Capsule?
I am wondering if my old 1TB Time capsule can be connected as an additional drive to the new 2TB Airport Extreme Time Capsule.

I don't think that's possible.
ATC (Airport Time Capsule) is built to share out its internal drive. The current ATC (ME182LL) has a USB2 connector and a number of Gigabit LAN connectors. There's no facility in the ATC to re-share a remote filesystem (ie share one from your old ATC through the new one via LAN connection). Additionally, although OSX devices have long offered "Target Mode" (which boots a Mac into a behavior like a big external disk) there's no documented method of doing such with an ATC. Even if there was, traditionally the USB2 port lacks the protocol for Mass-Storage over USB, which means that it would probably not share out a USB storage device if plugged in -- so even if you had a Target-Mode for your old ATC, there'd be no way to connect it compatibly.
Is there a reason you don't simply leave your old ATC as a 1TB NAS? You could disable the Wi-Fi if you prefer, or use it in Bridge-Mode to extend a LAN built/organized by your newer ATC (I do this to cover a broader area). Both disks (old and new) would be available to all LAN members subject to permissions.
