  • Apple Support document HT207448 "Use the LG UltraFine 5K Display with your Mac" says yes, it will work with a Apple Thunderbolt 3 to Thunderbolt 2 Adapter but only at 3840x2160 60Hz.

    Using the display at 5K might be possible using a Thunderbolt 3 add-in card such as the GC-ALPINE RIDGE with a PCIe expansion box, and an eGPU box with AMD graphics card. However, the functions of the display that require USB will not be usable (audio, camera, brightness control, USB ports...) because the USB functions of the Thunderbolt 3 add-in card will not be enabled by macOS.
