Won't charge with many non-apple cases

Unless you go for one the Apple cases with the open bottom, you'll find many other cases will have to be removed for your device to plug in correctly to charge. Also 50% cheaper on Amazon.

    Excellent, Simplistic & Efficient

Bought two 2 years ago and use them every day & just ordered on for my Mum.
Shocked to read bad ratings as you cant blame a product on a case you use that it wasnt designed for.
Im my view its a 10 out of 10 all day long

    Belkin Dock

Very dissappointing I found it very hard to engage my ipad with the dock, with or without front case. Need to pick it up to find connection fitting, my husband has poor eyesight and finds it impossible to attatch either phone or ipad I have returned this item

Response to the 'doesn't work in its case' comments

I also bought this dock as I found the iphone dock was too unstable to hold my iPad Air. As many have stated, the dock would not work unless the case was removed, making it impractical.

The point I want to raise with other reviewers is that this product is advertised as being able to be used with the case intact. It does not matter if people are I too lazy to remove the case to charge their phone or ipad. The description states it can be used with most cases. As a person who has official Apple cases for both iphone and ipad, it is reasonable to expect that these would be compatible with an authorized Apple product (authorized in the fact that they are advertised on the Apple UK site). I would say for Apple or Belkin to respond but we all, of course, know that that is simply not going to happen.

    Brilliant If Your Not Lazy

I was hoping to find 1 review that actually commented on the main feature of this Dock, which is to charge and sync our Apple Products. Unfortunately it seems that I must be the only person capable of removing my Ipad from its case everytime I am at home and for charging etc. My case is just an extra for protection away from home.. This Dock is BRILLIANT with good instructions and very easy to use. I could not be without mine, EVER.. Yes Apple have made a huge mistake of stating it will charge your device whilst still in the case, according to the other Reviewers, but I neither felt this was important or necessary.. This Dock is a great way to Charge and Sync your device whilst keeping it well protected in the upright position. It works and does exactly what you want which is to CHARGE your product. I cannot believe that this product is being slatted because People are too lazy to remove casings... PLEASE... ITS A GREAT DOCK......

Why are Apple even selling this when it doesnt work with official cases??
The problem is that the charger cable is set into a very large form factor - so raising and lowering the port doesnt help.
    Major design flaw.

    It doesn't work

I cannot tell you how much I wanted to love this product. In a household with multiple Apple products and a few broken leads, we needed to purchase an extra charger. Rather than buy an additional lead (most have bad reviews) I decided to look at alternatives. In previous years I've had docking style chargers on my bedside table for my old iPod, so wanted one for our phones (5s and 6).

We don't have cases on our phones, so I ignored most of the reviews that speak about removing the case for this charger to work.

This charger doesn't work. For a while my partner was able to get it to charge his iPhone 6 if we place the dock and the phone on its side. I plug my iPhone5s into the dock and it doesn't even register they're connected to each other.

Since removing this product from the box, it hasn't worked. I would highly recommend buying something else. It really is a waste of money and not a reliable charging device.

Why didn't I send it back? Because I travel a lot for work and it arrived at a time I was out the country for an extended period so it was passed the normal returns period. That, and my partner threw out the box!

Useable but not w/ iPad Air 2 Smart Case

Yeah, don't bother if you intend to charge an IPad Air 2 and you want to keep the Apple Smart Case on it. The hole in the Smart Case is not large enough to allow full penetration of the lightning connector into the Air 2 socket. That makes it worthless as a charger for a fully enclosed Air2. The Naked Air 2 works fine so if you use a smart cover, it will work. I am nervous putting my naked Ipad Air 2 on it, something about the relatively narrow base feels like it is going to break the lightning connector or get the Air 2 will be knocked to the floor. I don't want my $800 Ipad to hit the floor.

The unit itself is nicely made but you have to use a USB charger that came with your iPad or keep it attached to your computer USB port for charging.

    Love it but...

We have two of these in our house for use with both iPhones and iPads. Yes you do need to remove the case but if you aren't using the device it's not exactly a problem.
My biggest issue - which is currently being investigated by Belkin's fantastic customer service team - is that one of the two began overheating, smelling of plastic and then stopping working altogether. As I say Belkin were very receptive to me reporting this and are investigating the problem.
I have to add that I am not going to slander the product because of this, as you always get the odd one or two of a mass produced item that is faulty and given the manufacturer's speed and response, I believe them to be a reputable and caring company.

If you want a bedside/desktop dock and don't mind removing your cover!

    Great little dock

I've had this dock for a year and am pleased with it. It charges an iPhone 5 with a bumper on and 6 Plus with silicon case on. It also charges iPad mini with smart cover on.

Not really sure why people expect these discreet chargers to accommodate devices with their cases.

    Not fit for purpose

I can only agree with the other reviews on this product. I bought this dock, got it out of the packaging and connected it to my Mac fully expecting it to be a convenient extension for me to pop my apple products onto whilst sitting at my desktop and it didn't work - I thought it was faulty at first as my phone seemed to be docked and the packaging says it works with most cases but it wasn't until I removed both parts of my iPhone 5 Otter box case (Not something I ever usually need or want to do as its not a quick task) and connected the phone to the dock that I realized that it did in fact work. I then thought that at least I could use it for my iPad Air but although this fits better (I have this in a Belkin keyboard cover case) and actually connected it says "Not charging" which I assume is a compatibility issue. I wasn't 100% sure whether it would work with the iPad Air as the box states 4th Generation and I think the Air is 5th? so cant be too critical on that but in summary this dock is pretty much useless to me and I'll be taking it back to get a refund as the box is misleading. I would not recommend this product to anyone looking for a dock solution for Apple products.

    Don't buy it

The lightening connector is poorly made and exceptionally flimsy, so not fit for purpose. Mine worked for 2 months before starting to fail periodically, now 3 months after purchase it's given up entirely and I've binned it. A waste of money, buy a different make.

Why sell this item in your store?

Why do you sell an item in your store when it is not suitable for use with your Smart Cover?
Your salesperson says yes for sure but no it does not fit!

Useless if your devices are in a case

Do not buy this item if you have your device is in a case. Contrary to the description, I have to remove the case on my phone, iPad Air and iPad mini to use the dock, which means that the dock is actually an inconvenience to use. I currently use a Spigen case on my phone, a smart case for the Air and Mesh case for the mini. The design of the dock is such that the much hyped dial to adjust the height of the connector is useless unless the recess on your case is similar in size to the old 30-pin connector. All the new cases have a much smaller recess so the connector base will not fit. It is a similar situation with Apple's own dock. With 4 in 5 owners using a case, I am at a loss as to why this design fault has not been addressed.

    Poor design

We bought this dock, and unless you remove all cases, it just won't charge.
Tried it with iPad (standard case), iPad mini (hard case), iPhone 5s (spigen case), iPhone 5s (gel case).

The charging thingymagic just isn't long enough.

The dock did charge when cases were removed - so 1 star, misleading description.

Great Quality Dock Sure to Keep iPad Upgright

This dock works great with my iPad 4 even with the iPad Smart Case attached. A little dial behind the front stand allows you to adjust the power plug to match your setup.

Nice quality; made from good materials and is surprising hefty, heavier than the original iPad 2 dock.

The title says it all. of no use to me as it is a tough task to remove the apple cases in order to charge your iDevice.

    Not case compatible

The problem is that the lighting connector nib on the dock is too short/placed too low meaning that practically any case which covers the bottom of your device will block it from making a complete connection. If it weren't for this, it would be great.
Belkin needs to just make it so that the actual connecting bit can either be risen up to accommodate cases just as it can be moved forwards or backwards for different thicknesses.
This is a problem with a lot of 3rd party charging devices it seems. Whereas the plain old apple ones are slimmer and can penetrate casing better to allow a connection to be made.

To those with smart cases do your research

These are made to fit open base cases. It clearly states on the belkin website that these are made for open base cases. Anyways got this dock and its perfect . For my needs and very classy looking
