    Power Hungry Microphone

    • Written by THOMAS N T from Upper Marlboro

This review takes no issue with recording quality nor microphone quality.

I had high hopes for the MV88. I should, it cost $150.00.

I purchased this Mic so that I could leave my iPod Touch with the Mic attached for several hours of uninterrupted recording.
I discovered the following. My iPod battery is in excellent condition. The MV88 would drain the full battery to the 20% low-battery warning in 120 minutes. When the low battery window opens the recording stops.

The iPod Touch (6th Gen) is rated for Video playpback up to 8 hours. When recording with the built in Microphone the recording time was over 6 hours.

I'd be willing to overcome this with an external battery but the Microphone uses the Lightning Port so it's unable to support an external power source while it's recording.

I've gone to using a Mic that plugs into the headphone port.

    Upgrade needed

    • Written by Cand A from RICHMOND

Everything works fine with the microphone but if its has an option to charge the phone while is in use will be better because my phone battery is going fast when I’m doing a record. So please consider working on that upgrade. Thank you for taking the time to read this review.

CAUTION: Does not currently work correctly with iPhone X!

    • Written by Michael A from Moss Beach

Sounds great... when it works. The problem is that a bug keeps it from working consistently with the iPhone X (and perhaps the iPhone 8). The mic will just stop capturing audio in the middle of recording,

Shure says Apple is working to fix this, but for now I can’t recommend buying this product if you have a newer phone.

Great sound, but occasional clicking & popping

    • Written by Kevin P from CEDAR PARK

Mic has great sound, but when in use as a monitor using Apple EarPods on an iPhone 7+, there is occasional clicking & popping. Their app suggests using Airplane Mode, but this won't work for my intended purpose, Sure hope this gets fixed. It could be Apple's problem, or it could be Shure's problem - hard to know for certain - but I can't give a higher rating until this is fixed.
