No support if the silicone feet go missing

    • Written by kaveh M from albuquerque

One foot came off the corner of my bookarc. Somehow it got lost. I didn't notice when it happened. Unfortunately, the manufacturer is not able to offer replacement feet, or any sort of remedy after one year. For something with no moving parts and very little movement once set on a desk, it takes some time for faults to show up. Check out how many of these on ebay are missing feet! Would not recommend without changes to design, parts availability, or warranty. Too bad, because it's function is sweet - when intact.

Works as intended, but the rubber feet are poorly glued on

    • Written by Beau F from Singapore

Just got mine today for my MacBook Pro. Holds the MacBook fine, looks nice, just like the photos. My complaint is that the four rubber feet are just stuck onto the metal frame with low quality glue. One of them fell off the moment I removed it from the packaging. I had to use some adhesive tape to stick it back on. Twelve South really should improve on the design so that the rubber feet won't come off.

Old stock, not compatible with MBP with touchbar

    • Written by Jamie D from Bristol

The listing states this is compatible with all MacBooks this is not true, the version sold by Apple is not compatible with the latest 2016 MacBook Pros. I ordered one on 03/03/2017 and it came with inserts A, B, and C. However Insert D is required for the 2016 MacBook Pro's. The Twelve South website states that the latest model comes with Insert D so the one Apple are selling is old stock.

    Rubber Toes Come Off Easily!

    • Written by Brian T from Boynton Beach

Beautiful stand, but unfortunately the rubber toes come off way too easily. A little super glue and you're back in business though…

Looking at the stand, I thought my Macbook would just fall over at times. Saw the reviews, tried it out anyway and I'm not disappointed! Very sturdy stand indeed.

Not as good as the old BookArc Stand

    • Written by John H from London

I have the old BookArc stand for my MBA, but needed a new one for my Pro. Clearly manufacturing standards have gone down at Twelve South since I bought the first one - it's half the weight, poorly finished (the inside isn't properly sanded down) and now has a cheap chrome band around the outside, making it look like it came from Argos.

If I hadn't bought this from the Apple Store directly, I would have assumed this was a cheap Chinese fake.
Get an older version of the stand if you can track one down, far superior.

    Great look!

Nice little stand that makes your Mac stand out. Gave it 4 stars because it isn't worth $50. Looks really cheap, should probably be around $15. Other than that, great product.

    GREAT find!

    • Written by Christine L. S from Fayetteville

This striking, sleek, minimalist stand for holding Apple laptops is superb. What a find! It's a single size with 3 customized rubber inserts included, so you can choose the one that will snugly hold your own laptop (and can switch inserts later if you change laptops). It comes with a simple guide telling you which of the inserts -- A, B, or C -- to choose to protect the gorgeous finish of the laptop you own. I'm using this with the new 12" Retina MacBook in gold and am blown away by what a convenience it provides. I do a lot of work in bed and have always had to devote considerable real estate on the surface of my crowded nightstand to storing my laptop flat when not in use. Now I just slide my laptop down into this stand on the floor between bed and nightstand. Perfect! This gives me new room for my Kleenex box (not a misuse of the trademark -- it really IS Kleenex!), my coffee mug, and other sundries within reaching distance on the nightstand, while my gold 12" Retina MacBook rests securely protected and unscratched in this stand on the floor, still easily within my grasp. The gorgeous stand itself is mostly out of view, so in one sense the location is a waste, but the stand's purpose is fully served -- and when I pick up and move to living room couch, dining table or kitchen counter, the lightweight stand (weighing about as much as a salad fork!) comes with me and finally can show itself off. I think I will probably slip this tiny beauty in my bag when off to Starbucks or the office, too! Not many times in my life has such a small outlay of cash provided such an enormous boost in convenience and comfort. Unless you have lots of space/mobility and never wonder where to put your laptop within easy when it's not in use, try this amazing stand.

Glad I bought the older one for the 15" MBP(R)

    • Written by Andrew G from Braintree

I bought my MBP(R) 15" in October 2015 and bought this item for it. I love it. It is very sturdy and oozes quality despite its "Made in China" badge.

However, I have just purchased this item again for my wife's new MBP(R) 13" and it appears they have made it considerably smaller and lighter in order to make it suitable for the entire range, Air, MB and MBP(R). Resultantly, I wouldn't recommend this stand for the MBP(R) 15", but it is just about OK for my wife's MBP(R) 13".

I would thoroughly recommend it for the rest of the range, but the considerable difference in size should have been reflected in the price, considering the substantial amount of aluminium saved.

    Very nice indeed!

    • Written by Mike A from Brockville

First off, I was surprised to see that the pricing through Apple was more than competitive. Of course, being in Canada our options through Amazon or Ebay are challenged. Either limited offerings or high shipping from US vendors. And the Apple one came with a variety of inserts.

It holds my "new to me" 13" Macbook pro retina well and it doesn't feel like it may tip over. The finish is excellent. I also looked at the Henge vertical dock (on the internet) and it wasn't obvious to me that it was actually made of aluminum. I saw one reference that suggested it was injection molded plastic with a metal finish. I can confirm that the BookArc is one solid chunk of aluminum. Nice silicone inserts as well that grip the surface of my desk rather nicely.

I've experimented with two orientations ... exhaust down and exhaust up. I haven't really determined if it makes much difference at all to the internal temperatures. I was just thinking that exhaust up made more sense from a chimney effect consideration. It works well either way and there is little to block airflow.

Connecting to my peripherals is a snap ... all I have is the power cord and a thunderbolt to my display. Can't see how much better a "dock" would be for me. Unless the dock had an "eject" button that signalled my laptop to eject attached drives and go into sleep. As it stands I have to get to Finder and eject them one at a time. Maybe I'll make a keyboard shortcut.

It turned out to be a nice update and I'm hoping will keep my batteries a bit cooler and therefore last a bit longer. Before I had propped up my computer on some spacers (small 2"x2" ceramic tiles from Home Depot) to give it some airflow underneath. This is definitely an upgrade. Break over ... back to work!
