Great product line but something wrong with this particular model

    • Written by Stephen O from Fort Collins

I love Tech21 cases (have had at least 3) but there’s something wrong with this particular model. Even if you assume I got a defect, it just isn’t worth the extra $10 over their non-Elite cases. The case doesn’t fit great and quickly fills with pocket lint. The bottom bar is too flexible and doesn’t protect the speaker grill. The rubber trim quickly discolors. And the clear back scratches easily. I’ll still look to Tech21 for my next case, but this particular model is a lemon.

I got my iPhone X around Christmas with this case. I really shouldn't of spent $50 on this but it was the slimmest and most protective case they had. So around April, I noticed the back glass was very dirty. I had to take off the case and clean it. Not only was the whole back COVERED in dirt, It had multiple scratches around the edges. I was shocked. I have not dropped my phone once to this day. I still kept this case on because I don't even see the glass outside the case. Starting around June, I noticed what I thought was a scratch on the border. Not noticing until 3 months later, I realized the plastic was cracking. The only reason I checked was because ANOTHER crack formed next to it. I never put my phone in areas where it can fall or get damaged. So I assume it's because of the way it was manufactured. The rubber around the volume and power buttons will deform and protrude from the border, letting more dust get into the phone. Speaking of deforming, the bottom 2 corners of the case have bent, causing them to not properly fit around the corner of the phone. Taking the case off the phone and placing it on a table makes it look like a banana due to the bend. The rubber by the charging port has just separated from the case. the back plastic is also extremely easy to scratch. I do not know how durable this case is because 1. I have never dropped it; and 2. There are almost no drop test online. If you want a case that will damage your phone without dropping it, fall apart for no reason, and deform without and clear sign why, this is the case for you. Otherwise go spend money on a much cheaper case, like a rhinoshield, that has proof of drop protection and looks great on you phone.

    Discoloration, falling apart, staining...

    • Written by Gabriella F from Cupertino

This product looks nice at first but will easily fall apart and have discoloration both by external factors (dirt, anything that temporarily discolors, the inside of a nice black purse that isn’t discoloring/staining anything else???). The company replaced it for free but within a month it will start to fall apart again. (I am referring to the pink model)

    Cheap Garbage

    • Written by Braden E from Carrollton

I really like how streamlined and compact the case is. Doesn't add much bulk to the phone. But the case is cheap garbage. Within a few months, the case is coming apart at the lower section where the charger plugs in, coming apart at the section where the volume control is, and now it's coming apart at another corner of the case. Extremely disappointing.

    Easily Scratched

    • Written by Sebastian L

This case is super prone to scratches. I placed it on a public table for a minute and when I pick it up, the back is scratched. The matte finish made the scratches very prominent. I would rather go with a Spigen case, cheaper and better quality.

Falls apart within a couple months

    • Written by Gabi F from Jonesboro

The case is bending, the back side is cracked, the pink silicone parts are discolored, paint on the harder plastic is chipping off, and the silicone bottom that protects the port is falling off. I've owned this for 6 months and this has been occurring for a few months now.

    My case cracked

    • Written by Joel A from London

Have been using casing for about 4 months and removed phone a couple of time but case formed a crack horizontally just below camera lense. I have now used warranty which means they are due send me a brand new one. Not a particularly attractive case but does the job when it comes to drops. Just hope the next one doesn’t crack!

    It is very disappointing.

    • Written by Kai K from Didsbury

I echo the previous review: this case feels cheap and tacky.
The material is definitely downgrading the flagship iPhone model.
The rubber feel is cheap and badly cut. The hard plastic backing is ok in itself but feel tacky because the silver/gold/rose gold colours you pick are basically painted on it.
The side profile is rectangular rather than the rounded edges of the phone which make this phone loses its charm and design altogether. The added bulk is not letting me type a text message with one hand. It's like holding an iPhone Plus.

For this price point, it is very disappointing.

I have always been a TECH21 person but I am looking for something else now.

I love Tech21 products and have always used them since I worked at Apple Retail. Usually I get the check case they offer but settled on this one because it was readily available. After a few days I am now returning it. The case doesn't feel good and is somewhat hard to grip.

It did handle drops well but for the price and what knot it just feels cheap.

    Practical iPhone X Case

    • Written by Patrick B from San Diego

Purchased black T21 Evo Elite case & iPhone X on 11/16/17.
Installed before leaving the Apple store.

    - Hardshell case I believe can withstand drops & protect the phone well
    - Good size lip around screen & camera lens
    - Not flashy (expensive phone you may not want to stand out)
    - No issues accessing or pushing side buttons
    - Wireless charging functionality

    - Slightly on the bulky side but not bad (tradeoff for protection)
    - Back of case is a bit slippery (manageable)
    - Back of case quickly showed wear with scratches (doesn’t bother me)
    - Particals entered & scratched the iPhone’s back glass (disappointed)

    Don't buy one.

    • Written by Steve M from Braselton

    My letter to tech 21:
I got my extremely costly iPhone X only a week ago. I have owned about 10 iPhones between myself and my wife. I have NEVER broken a screen on one ever. I bought your case from Apple website and placed it on immediately, as I always do with my iPhones. The phone fell from my lap to the hard floor one time, maybe 3-4 feet and landed on lower left corner area and my screen cracked. On closer examination of you case, I notice that there really is very little case material that extends above the phone surface itself in the periphery areas. The screen sort of bulges more in these new iPhone Xs. So there is inadequate protection from screen damage all around the phone, but particularlly at the corner areas--the most common area of maximum force. I am disappointed greatly in protection from drops this case provides in these areas. This is not my first tech21 case either. I would take a photo of it, but I just have this phone to do it. Luckily I have Applecare, but it is still going to cost me, and for such a small drop this should never happen with a proper case in my opinion. Why else have the case on? I hope you take this seriously as I usually don't take the time to write a criticism like this, but I will make a point to go to websites to voice my review.

    So far so good

    • Written by Andrea S from Hong Kong

I’ve had the phone and case for just one day. So far so good. 3 drops from standing height and still standing. Hoping it will be as good at the tech21 for my previous 7 Plus which survived multiple daily drops. Looks good, don’t find it slippery. Was pricy though, seems they’ve taken advantage and raised prices for the X.

    Disappointing compared to past cases

    • Written by Gordon W from Glenview

I bought this case like others have based on my past experiences with Tech21 cases. Since this one was exclusive to Apple, I thought it would be worth a little extra money and decided to buy it for my new phone. The case doesn't seem to have as much grip as the others and it doesn't seem like it will protect my phone very much. The worst part for me is the appearance of the case. I have had it on my phone for a little over two weeks and the back of the case is extremely scratched and looks terrible. This puzzles me because I take great care of my phone which brings me to the conclusion that these are made of poor quality. I am currently looking at other brands for a different case. Only reason that I give 2 stars is because protection is relatively okay. Not worth $50!

    Well designed protection

    • Written by Ronald S from Palos Heights

I’ve owned many iPhones since 2007, and have gone through a LOT of cases. Everything from ultra expensive leather wallets to Lifeproof waterproof models and OtterBox defenders, etc. For me, the Tech21 Evo elite is a nearly perfect compromise, and I mean that in the most positive way. It’s not so large and bulky that you can’t even tell what kind of device is in the case, nor is it so thin or flimsy so as to only protect against the lightest scratches. It has a very nice grippy feel in the hand, yet it neatly tucks in the front pocket of your jeans without snagging. The translucent smoky back clearly reveals the Apple and iPhone logo, yet is extremely resistant to bumps and scratches. The grippy black surround completely covers the side buttons... only the mute switch, lightning port, and speakers are uncovered, but they are also very well shielded by the raised bumper, which also protects the screen and camera perimeters. This is a great case for everyday use, providing protection from bumps, scrapes, and drops. I’m very impressed with the materials and overall design. I highly recommend giving this case a try!

Caused scratches on stainless steel of the phone

    • Written by Mohammed S from Singapore

After putting this case, scratches were found all over my phones side stainless steel. The irony is that apple claims that the side steel is very durable and scratch proof, in the end a plastic casing caused scratch marks. I won't recommend this casing for anybody.

    Not their best

    • Written by Garrett N from Honolulu

I have only owned tech21 cases since the iphone 5 and they have all be stellar and destroyed the competition in terms of being protective, durable, grippy (to an extent) and sort of affordable ($40). Now I cant really speak about the case being protective from drops since I have not dropped my phone yet, but what I can say is that the case does not seem like it will last me the life of the phone like past cases have, the case is very very slippery in the hand and it is not affordable when comparing it to the evo check, which i did order from tech21. I plan on returning this phone case as soon as possible and do not like what they have done here for their "only at apple tech21 case".

Not as good as older Tech21 Cases

    • Written by Anthony R from Washington

I've had Tech21 cases for almost all of my iPhones and have always loved them. They were super durable and protective. This case feels really cheap and there is no grip to it. I ended up returning and going with the Otterbox which so far has been way better.
