    Bad product

    • Written by Justina C from Oakville

If only i can give it a 0 star, i would, but cant. One of the seller at apple reccommended this to me and i specifically said for transferring files to Ipad Pro, so i can transfer AutoCAD files, from a PC but didnt work and tried it many times to make sure but still didnt work so i regret getting this and would never buy apple accessories or devices since from the beginning was not an apple fan just bought one since the ipad pro was a gift from someone.

It just doesn't work - I trusted the product even though it didn't have a good review and it is expensive but I want to try it for myself and I love apple products but this adapter disappoint me.

Pure, unrefined junk - zero stars

    • Written by Mauro S from San Francisco

Not only Apple made customer's experience miserable creating the need for all this adapters( and asking a lot of money for them ) but they do not even have the dignity to sell something that works! If you'd like to buy an accessory that will cause your external monitor to blink on and off this is it! Thank you CrApple!

Was Probably Never Meant to Work

Had 8 of these at our work site. None of them work with HDMI regardless of cable/monitor/device. Only got the new MacBooks because our old ones gave out. Currently having to use older Windows laptops for meeting presentations.

HDMI is incomparable with every monitor I've tried (at least 6 different monitors). Spend your money elsewhere.. this adapter is junk.

    Doesn't work

    • Written by Clayton S from Corinth

I really wish I had read the reviews on this product before I purchased it. Chose to go with an Apple product because until this product, I've always had great success with Apple gear. In short I tried two of these adaptors and neither would work with my projector or big screen TV. Tried multiple HDMI cables with no success. Switched to an off-brand adapter and it worked without issue. Best part is that the off-brands are significantly cheaper (half) than the Apple adapator.

    Waste of money and time!

    • Written by saskia K from brooklyn

This hub does not read external drives! The laptops with only usb-c ports forces you to purchase dongles to run your external drives, leaving you beholden to dongles. When they don't work it means not being able to access all of your data. You need a high powered USB adapter if you need to access data. Don't waste your money!

Used this device for the first time on my MacBook. I connected the power source and HDMI output to a TV monitor and within an hour or so the device became incredibly hot, so much so that the housing melted somewhat around the USB-C connection. There seems to be a design flaw with this device.

Does not work for HDR movies from iTunes store

    • Written by Jason Anthony G from San Francisco

Bought and downloaded several movies for my vacation. Got this adapter to connect my $2000 iPad to the TV over HDMI. Found out while on vacation that it doesn’t output HDR content, only SDR. which meant I couldn’t watch the movies I’d bought over the adapter I’d bought.

Don’t buy this if you plan on downloading and playing HDR content to a TV. Either watch directly on your device, or download the SDR (lower quality) version of the movies.

It’s rhenonly reason I bought the adapter so I can’t review the rest of the features.

You can imagine how this would spoil a vacation if you had bought a bunch of movies to entertain the family.

    Great Accessory

    • Written by Mojtaba S from Success

Having tried several third party UBS-C to multiport adaptors, I had always a problem that HDMI and USB-3 interfered with 2GHz WiFi.
This Apple Multiport adaptor works properly with Macbook Pro 13" non-touchbar connected to a 1080p@60Hz screen. I tested the USB-C charging (61W) along with a Time Machine SSD drive connected to the USB-3 port. It worked as expected with no interference with 2GHz WiFi.
It is really worth the price and I strongly recommend that to Macbook users.

    Works as advertised

    • Written by Honorato R from MIAMI

I tried the Kensington USB C dock, however I could not get the HDMI and USB to work at the same time.

This adapter works as advertised -so far. I connect a 3.0 USB hub (with two external USB drives) , charger and HDMI monitor and use my 2017 base MacBook Pro as a workstation (also Apple bluetooth keyboard and Microsoft bluetooth mouse) with no sweat. As far as monitor blinking ON and OFF, this will happen if you have the power saver settings to automatically turn OFF monitor after a set amount of time AND an active screen saver. As I prefer the screen saver, I set the Power Saver Monitor OFF setting to NEVER. When used as a work station, not by itself, I leave computer ON all the time and the monitor no longer blinks as I set monitor OFF to NEVER (systems preference>energy saver). I believe this is the way monitors work in general and is NOT the fault of the adapter,

After the Kensington fiasco, I prefer this adapter and am afraid to try others as this works for now.

Should be more functional but ok for watching movie on TV.

    • Written by Paul T from Boise

I wanted to share my experience with this regarding the USB ports. The video and audio for a movie worked fine for me on my TV via hdmi cable from monoprice. The USB A receptacle: I plugged my iPhone X in here and it would charge and allow me to transfer photos to and from the iPad Pro. I tried a USB stick which triggered the photos app but there were no photos to import so it didn't do anything. I tried syncing to my MacBook Pro via a USB A to USB A cable and nothing happened. USB C: could charge from my MacBook Pro but could not sync via a USB C to USB A cable (works fine without the adaptor - just wanted to test).

In summary I would have liked to know what this did before I bought it so I wish apple would just put it in the description of this expensive adaptor. That is why I took away two stars: poor documentation of the product. It needs to be able to move any file type to the file system and it should be able to sync the iPad Pro to my MacBook through the adaptor on both USB A and USB C ports. When you don't live in the big city wifi and other services aren't always available making the iPad not so useful as a field tool.

Perfect for MacBook Air 2018's 2 USB-C ports

    • Written by Nolan H from Seattle

As anyone with a 2018 MacBook Air knows, it's a great machine but has only 2 USB-C ports. One USB-C port gets claimed for your power. That leaves you trying to connect your monitor, external HD, keyboard and mouse to the second USB-C port. But I drove myself crazy trying to find an adapter that could accept a monitor, power the drive and the other USB connections. Not sure it exists.

The USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter solved the problem.
It lets you connect your HDMI monitor AND still power the laptop by connecting its regular power block & cable with the pass-thru connection. (The USB port won't power an external drive, just use it to charge your phone.)
That leaves the MacBook's _other_ USB-C free to connect something like the Belkin USB 3.0 4-Port Hub + USB-C Cable, which has 4 powered USB connectors. Hair-pulling problem solved.

    Very expensive mediocre performing dongle

    • Written by Maurice S from Verdal

The USB-C connector on this dongle can only be used for the charging cable, any other device will be ignored. Connecting your usb hard drive to the usb connector is a bad idea, resulting in potential data loss and slow performance. The HDMI port works okay for my screen, but the price of this dongle is way out of proportion.
