TRULY AWFUL does not deserve even one star

Do not buy it. They replaced the first one. The new one had same problems but i put up with it because it is such a cool physical design. That one has finally stopped working completely.

    Maybe two years?

Problems are outlined in all other messages you see here. They are true.

Also, the vinyl and fabric cover starts fraying quickly.

    Sad sad product

Second one same as the first

As everyone else notes, these keyboards live about one year and then die. First keyboard lasted exactly one year before the dreaded “device not supported” message started popping up; Apple replaced it for free under the warranty program. Now I’m one year and one month into the replacement keyboard and the Apple version of “blue screen of death” has started popping up again. I don’t think it’s even worth contacting support anymore. Time to find an entirely different keyboard.

    Extremely Disappointing

LIterally falling apart at the seams. I've owned for a year and a half. Not only is it physically falling apart but it's barely functional and prompts annoying error messages. I'm a longtime Apple user with the full suite of products - this is by far the worst product I've ever purchased from Apple

    Stopped working after 13 months

Same as all the other reviews, stopped working just after the warranty ended. This is my second keyboard, the first one died two weeks before the warranty expired. Great in every other aspect, just not durable beyond one year.

It's good news and bad news

Read the reviews and you will immediately understand the pros and cons of this keyboard. The pros are that it's lightweight, nicely designed and it greatly enhances the usability of the ipad to the extent that I can more often leave my Mac at home. (Alright it's not backlit but it's supposed to be portable for God's sake).

However the cons (or con) is that it WILL stop working - somewhere between 12 and 24 months after you bought it and usually just after the warranty runs out. This happened to me, it happened to most of the reviewers on this site and the forums are littered with complaints by people who have suffered the same thing. The problem appears to be with the magnetic coupling which becomes de-magnetised after a period so that the keyboard is no longer recognised.

This is not an isolated problem. It happens A LOT - to the extent that this begins to look like built in obsolescence on Apple's part. It's a problem that really should have been fixed by now.

That said, I have just bitten the bullet and bought my second one of these gadgets because I simply find it that indispensible. It took a bit of soul searching to fork out another £140 knowing that this will probably happen again but in the end I figured it was worth it - just.

This really would be a much better product if it was just a little bit more reliable - I have cartons of long life milk that have lasted longer than this.

Very bad for the Apple name

Like countless others I have the problem of intermittent failure, often accompanied by the message that the product is not genuine. Cold restart helps, but not always. A factory reset helped for a while and then even that didn’t last long. I’m led to suspect that the problem is an iOS change designed to lock out non-genuine keyboards. It’s either that or the keyboard is a piece of trash physically. Either way it does not augur well for the future of Apple. Looks like I’ll have to buy a Logitech keyboard but more importantly I’ll never again to be tempted to buy Apple.

    Not worth on buying this!!

It is good at the first time. Time after time, its totally not functioning after a year and 3 months. Apple SHOULD extend the warranty to ensure their consumers!!

    One more that stopped working...

Add us to the list of users who had one of these stop working at about the 1yr mark. I'm usually ok with paying a little more for Apple products because they hold up well, but this one definitely doesn't fit that mold.

Failing to Work and Apple provides no diagnosis

Like the other reviewers, after about a year, I'm getting the 'Accessory not Supported' message. I reboot and most times it starts to work but not always.
This is not Apple reliability, and if Apple cared about their users, they would post a message explaining and acknowledging the problem. At least they should provide a step by step diagnostic to determine when and if it is necessary to replace the keyboard. I'm hesitant to do so as I don't want to blow that kind of money if it's not going to fix the problem.
I'm typing this on my new iMac. Hope it lasts longer.

    Don’t buy this keyboard

Stopped working about a year and a half after purchase. “accessory not supported” error, no input through keyboard. Believe the other similar reviews.

    Unreliable

At my office several of us have (and hate) this keyboard. Started cutting out after 2 weeks of light use. I am on my third in 3 months. Others are on their 4th or fifth. Yet somehow the company mandates that we use this clunky piece of junk,

    Poor keyboard-don’t buy

I purchased this keyboard at the same time I purchased my IPad Pro, it was the recommendation made by the Apple store salesman. It worked great for the first year, then it stoped working consistently. The keyboard would stop working and I would get an alert on my IPad that “the accessory was not supported” by the iPad Pro. I would restart my iPad and the keyboard would start to work again. As I used the keyboard the performance got worse and worse. Because I would have to restart my iPad to get the keyboard to work, I would lose my place and at times lose my work. I brought the keyboard back to the store and they would not exchange it as it’s beyond the short warranty period. At this moment I’m typing on the iPad, not the keyboard because it doesn’t work! Buy one that actually works! This was a waste of a hard earned $150.

    Stopped working

...same as all the other reviews of people who have owned this keyboard for 1 year. My keyboard had light use over the course of the year before it completely stopped working. I began receiving "accessory not supported" messages. This keyboard is too expensive to overlook. Every site I have searched for information about this product has indicated the same issue...it stops working after 1 year.

Defective and Completely Stopped Working - But Good Initially

While initially worked very well and I loved it, this is clearly a defective product. Apple is unlikely to address or acknowledge, but please see the litany of reviews noting that the product stopped working completely "around" or after one year. One year, three months in, like many others, mine has completely stopped working and I receive an "Accessory Not Supported" message. My only "fix" is dropping another $150 on another keyboard for (probably) one year's usage. I generally love apple products and own many, but it is shameful that they don't acknowledge that this one is defective and an exchange program.

    Stopped working after a year

Same as other reviewers said. Mine stopped working after about a year. Says accessory not supported constantly. I just use it as a cover now and repeatedly dismiss the annoying message.

Does not work with the 9.7 inch ipad!!

I purchased this Smart Keyboard to have a keyboard to work with my 9.7inch iPad. I bought this based on the recommendation from the website AND the salesperson in the Apple Store. When I received this, I found out this keyboard only works with the 9.7in iPad PRO, which Apple DOES NOT sell. Apple only sells the 9.7 inch iPad which is not the same thing. The only way for this keyboard work is if you already own the 9.7in iPad Pro or have purchased it from a Target or Walmart. I used the chat feature for tech support and the online support and it took long conversations with both to have them realize that these two were not compatible. Very disappointed and both will be returned back to Apple.

    Don’t waste money dangerous

I have been getting “accessories not supported” popping out for the pass few months before it have the pop out i having issues with the keyboard.
I can’t type there's nothing come out . I try to remove and put it back it don’t works also.
So i was thinking ok let’s just use it as a cover for my iPad pro.
But few days back i have notice i left my iPad with the keyboard close not charging over night in aircon room it turns very warm in the morning and my battery drop from full 100% to 45% .
Ok maybe is i never cover rightly or so, so the next day i cover it up and press the power button to make sure is in sleep mode and is still the same in the morning.
I worry it will get on fire i take out the keyboard and not using it anymore.
I buy it when it 1st came out in Singapore works well at that time but not now .

    1 year 1 month - Dead

Worked wonderfully for a year. Had used many different products, however now I get a "Accessory not Supported" and non connection unless I hold it at just the right angle. Very frustrated on this one!
