    Save your money

I thought this would be similar to the Belkin one, purchased at the time and less than 3 weeks keys have started falling off, screen prone to slipping over the keyboard all in all definitely not worth the money paid for and of a very poor build quality, in addition it is also battery operated unlike the Belken one which was charged via micro usb.

would not recommend the only reason for the 2 stars is it does work but is of a very poor build and design.

I purchased this smart keyboard, and initially it was working very well. But after 6 months of usage, I got the "accessories not supported" messages and had an intermittent disconnection between the iPad and the keyboard. By the 11th month, I can no longer use the keyboard. I tried to report this to Apple, but sadly they said that they cannot replace it because it is out of warranty period.
    Really, really disappointed...

    Apple key board failed

I bought an iPad Pro and key board about 18 months ago, just recently I had the same problem as a previous reviewer, the iPad kept coming up with the error attachment not supported, the keyboard eventually failed, as luck would have I had bought my iPad & keyboard from John Lewis (UK) and they give extra warranty on the items, they replaced the keyboard but told me that the Keyboard for the 9.7 iPad was no longer available so I now have a Logitech universal Bluetooth keyboard, which is working well but is a bit bulky, I can only give the Apple key board one star as it failed, but when it did work I loved it.

    Great, but unreliable

When it's working this is a good bit of kit. There's zero lag when typing unlike Bluetooth keyboards and it all folds up nicely under the iPad when not in use. Note that it doesn't function as a makeshift case as some third party keyboards do, so there's not necessarily much robustness about the whole affair, but that's fine if that's what you're expecting.

The problem is that in just over a year of normal use in an office environment, the keyboard stopped working, which starts with "This Accessory is not Supported" messages. There's no obvious damage and Apple Support have not been very useful. Simply Google "Apple iPad keyboard not working" to validate this.

Therefore, I struggle to recommend this keyboard, especially at the relatively high price, when you may only get 12 months of use out of it.

    Great until it stopped working!

The keyboard was great to use until after about a year of light use it suddenly start intermittently displaying a message ‘Accessory Not Suppported’. It remains intermittent, but the is neither rhyme nor reason as to when it happens. It makes the keyboard at literally unusable. It is apparently a connection issue and something known to Apple, but it remains unresolved. It is the kind of thing that simply shouldn’t be happening to something at this price point.

Consequently, although when actually working it is a beautiful keyboard, I simply cannot recommend.

    Must Have!

If you use your iPad pro as an extension of either your iMac or macbook pro like i do, this keyboard gives the feel of a mini laptop and allows you to work efficiently on the go. For me, I carry the keyboard everywhere I go, sometimes I have to remove the pad to take pictures etc which is fine, and I get frustrated as I attempt to write something on the iPads screen keyboard. Truly love it!!

Now a Laptop Replacement for Word Processing Tasks

I'm surprised by the number of negative reviews for the Smart Keyboard, as I have found it to be the best investment I have made since the iPad Pro itself. My productivity in note taking, letter and report writing has increased significantly with its addition.

There are certainly areas for improvement: As others have mentioned the tablet doesn't feel as secure as it should stood-up vertically, and there’s also there’s no ability to ‘forward-delete’ (by far my biggest complaint), but considered as a keyboard first, I have found that typing has genuinely become a pleasure. My workflow in Word, Keynote, and Evernote is now more of a notebook-like experience, but with the lightweight portability that a tablet provides. The keyboard shortcuts are the game changer for me, although I wish they would be expanded more fully into other apps, like opening new tabs in Safari, but the Cmd-TAB app switcher is very fast and just amazing!

I have no complaints with build quality; everything sits flush and flat with my silicon case or when open on a table top, all the keys operate as they should on the British Layout version, and it’s worked in all the apps I’ve tried it with. I really enjoy the feel of the keys, including the woven covering, their spacing, and the travel – It took very little time to bring my typing speed up to near full-size keyboard rate. The lack of backlighting hasn’t been an issue for me, as I work with clients on-site in lit rooms, and value the form factor of this keyboard over the bulk that LEDs would add.

Overall, I can say that I’m very happy with the purchase, and even find the price reasonable for the portability/performance benefit it offers me, although it certainly isn’t cheap.

    Works for me...

This is a great attachment to the iPad Pro, has transformed the iPad usage and virtually replaced my laptop, apart from building presentations and spreadsheets.

Like the way it feels when typing, almost like a mechanical board but don't get to excited if you like that retro feel read 'almost'.

The keys sit proud of the board so actually touch typing is pretty easy.

Tabbing through applications is a dream using 'command+tab', cutting and pasting (admit it we all do it) is also super simple and getting the cursor using the arrows keys where you want it (opposed to holding your finger on the screen) is an overall enhancement to using the iPad.

Using the smart connector is great leaving bluetooth free and the power socket, big plus no need to carry an additional charger for a different board.

It folds away to the back when not needed and neatly folds up to protect the screen.

I think it is very worth the 150 pounds but there are a few things that are frustrating, just not show stoppers hence 3 star not 5.

1/ Not all applications seem to recognise it.
2/ Using English US layout keyboard for UK English is too confusing with many button icons in the wrong place (e.g 3 or # is the £ symbol)
3/ Find I still use the app keyboard for certain symbols as not intuitive enough to find (probably me being inept not an apple super user)
4/ It would be nice to have it backlit but of its that dark to need backlit probably best not having it on in the first place.
5/ The Faux suede that it sits on and then goes against the screen picks up everything to particles can scratch the screen easily.
6/ What I really hate was having to buy the back cover separately as this is 100% required if you have the keyboard, should have come with it. Otherwise risk of camera damage now it sits proud is far to high.

Overall very happy with the smart keyboard, but could have been happier, mostly minor issues, certainly room for improvement.

Poor design with very limited benefits

IT IS NOT BACKLIT. It is very difficult to use on a lap. It leaves the Ipad exposed to scratches and the camera lense is proud and WILL SCRATCH FIRST. This is a bad design and definitely not worth the money. Avoid!

What a disappointment it is not backlit! Logic is though & that has pen holder as well!

I was disappointed with this keyboard, for two reasons.

First, like one other review I read online noted, the iPad can lean back and bit, winch lifts the front edge of the keyboard up and prevents it lying flat. This is quite annoying.

The second issue I've found is that the down arrow key doesn't seem to have been fitted right on my unit. It's really stiff and only registers key presses abut half the time. Disappointing quality control here.
