    An extremely useful accessory... until it stops working.

    When it was working, my typing speed was blindingly fast in comparison to the standard keyboard (even with a certain company's 3rd party keyboard). I loved it. But After going through two issues and Apple not willing to replace the item again as it replaced over thirty days prior, I'm left with a very expensive stand... but at least that still works for now.

    Not to mention the contact points wear down too easily and actually cause damage to the iPad (deep cosmetic scratches on the magnetic contact points).

    10.5 Keyboard Fails to Work

    I'm in the same boat as so many others. The keyboard for my 10.5 Pro was giving me the "accessory not supported" message occasionally for a while but has now become the norm. All manner of connecting/disconnecting, various key combinations found on the web that may or may not be doing anything have now all become unreliable. Apple, please do something for this now very expensive screen protector.

    Great Until It Died

    The Smart Keyboard is a really great companion to the IPAD Pro. It makes the device as functional as a laptop for 90% of my normal usage. Unfortunately, like many others, mine started to have runaway keys and displayed connection errors right as it turned a year old. By the time it was 14 months it was completely dead.

    The Apple store offered a 10% discount on a replacement device but I buy Apple products because I expect quality and longevity so this just does not seem sufficient.

    Very disappointing.

    Was great.... at first

    I WISH I was writing this using the keypad, indeed the Smart Keyboard is attached to my iPad right now... and yet, it is useless.

    it worked perfectly for the first year that I owned my iPad 10.5, but right at the 1 year anniversary I started getting the warning “accessory not supported”. Pulling it off and putting it back on worked, at first, but now it just doesn’t work at all. I’ve searched online and found many other people with the same frustration, and tried all the different suggested solutions, with no luck.

    I am sad, because having thin, light keyboard rally made my iPad a true laptop replacement for me, but now my iPad is little more than a screen, and I can no longer work effectively on it.

    This apple “Smart” keyboard self-destructs & turns into landfill garbage

    My apple “Smart” keyboard for ipad worked great for the first 8 months. Then it began disconnecting while I was writing, Then it began ERASING whole paragraphs of my writing, with no way for me to recover my work!!! Cleaning the connections had no effect on it. I am extremely disappointed in Apple for selling me an expensive disposable keyboard with a short life expentancy. Apple should at least replace these defective products. AVOID!

    Good Product. Terrible Durability.

    I bought this keyboard for my iPad because it is much easier to type on a keyboard, rather than on the iPad screen. The first downside of this keyboard “case” is that it only protects the screen when closed. There is no protection for the back or sides of the iPad, so that forced me to buy a separate case, on top of the $160 Smart Keyboard.

    The Smart Keyboard actually worked really well for me, and I enjoyed how easy and seamless it was to use. However, for the price tag of $160, this product should last much longer than a few months. The magnetic connection does not work anymore, which means I can no longer use the keyboard to type.

    So now I just have a really expensive, and useless, front cover. Really disappointing quality from a brand that built it’s reputation on “quality”.

    A good first effort, but lots of room for improvement

    A good first effort, but I think there is a lot of rooom for improvement on version 2. Quality isn’t fantastic - it feels like it will last, which is good, but its not very refined - for example, the edges of the case/keyboard are sharp enough to cut you. The finish is OK, but pretty basic - a fabric finish would have been nicer and more in keeping with the apple brand. It’s very noisy... really noisy.. enough that colleagues comment when you are tapping away in meetings (don’t sit next to the telecom mic!!). Hopefully I will get quieter with time! I think the lack of travel doesn’t really help. I don’t see why the keyboard could not have been larger - i’m Sure the origami design would allow for this and it would have been nicer to have at least 1 more row of keys for inclusion of short cuts (lifting your hand up to the screen is slow and cumbersome). The lack of backlit keys limits the lusefullness of the keyboard to. Overall, its basic, but get the job done in a portable design. If you are trying to get some serious typing done however, i’d Look for alternatives!

    Wow Same Experience

    I am reading some of the reviews about the tear in the keyboard and I have to agree I was a sucker for buying it as well, but it’s helpful when you’re typing documents. I am still trying to figure out what’s to smart about it, besides how it connects to the IPAD along, but once I log onto websites and I try to put in my email address I have use the built in keyboard and not the Smart Keyboard since it refuse to recognize I need to input a lowercase letter instead of capitalized first to log into my account.

    Love this Smart Keyboard, but...

    I recently notice a small rip on the edge of the Smart Keyboard. Knowing that it was around the one year mark of making this purchase, I hurried to my nearest Apple Store. Turns out the 1 year warranty expired.... you guessed it, last month. Since at this point it is only a “cosmetic” issue, they cannot do anything about it. I’m afraid this is the beginning of the end of this expensive keyboard. I am used to better quality products from Apple.

    The technician said that if the keyboard stops working, which I’m sure it won’t be the case, then he can probably exchange it based on the quality program. I guess I’ll end up with a working, ugly looking ripped keyboard for the foreseeable future. Not a happy camper.

    Great concept but bad materials

    This product worked for me very well, but after a couple months the corner started to rip. Now there is a hole in the leather part of the case. This has really disappointed me, I thought apple made quality products.

    Functionality, yes... Protection and Value, NO

    The functionality of this keyboard is obviously very good. The keys do work well and it does *ALMOST* feel like a laptop keyboard. The smart connector works well and seamlessly with iPad... however, for $159 I expect that the back of the iPad should be protected. It's the only thing that stops me from keeping the case. It should have a back case for the iPad like the old Smart Case they used to sell that had protection for the backside of the iPad. I feel that this is not good value for the price Apple is charging (but what else is new). Until I find something better, I'll go back to my Logitech bluetooth keyboard and using my OtterBox Defender as a stand.

    it does not last

    First one (for 9.7 ipad pro) lasted for 14 months. Since I’m in EU, I was able to convince Apple after many long phone calls that it should be replaced under warranty.
    The second one (for 10.5 ipad pro) lasted for 11 months. Now i’m trying to get a replacement.

    Very unreliable product from Apple, if you buy it, expect loads of phone calls, chats with customer care.

    Great while it worked, but it didn't work very long

    I bought my iPad Pro two years ago and it is an excellent product but unfortunately the Smart Keyboard that I purchased at the same time isn't up to the same standard. While it was working it was convenient and easy to use but it stopped working suddenly and now it's just a very, very expensive case.

    Was a great keyboard - until iOS 11.xx

    I purchased this smart keyboard about 9 months ago, and loved it....particularly because it was easy to use to type in several languages. Then I upgraded my iPad to iOS 11 - and the thing went to heck. It works only intermittently, and sometimes not at all. It has become completely unreliable, which is a shame, because I travel a lot and I loved the fact that here was a keyboard that was easy to type on quickly, and in small spaces, even on an airplane. I loved that the keyboard was part of the cover and the stand. But now - it’s almost useless. I have cleaned the contacts, cleaned the keyboard, rebooted umpteen times, tried chatting with Apple - to no avail. Most things I see online suggest it’s a bug in the updated iOS....so I hope Apple fixes the problem. Until then, I am not sure I would recommend to anyone that they should spend $159 for this thing.

    Intermittent connectivity overshadows other features

    The product is great when it comes to size (manages a nice balance of being big enough to feel like a full keyboard while also being slim and portable) and comfort (keys are comfortable to the touch and don't feel like I am straining as with other keyboards).

    However, the keyboard works only intermittently and I'm constantly having to stop what I'm doing to reconnect it to the iPad. This only gets worse if you're not on a perfectly flat surface (i.e. if you're trying to type away from your desk on you lap or outdoors, etc) Very disappointed with the functionality and connectivity problems of the keyboard. I would not buy this again.

    Teribble products

    It doesn’t even protect the back of the iPad which makes it a bad case but it also relys on magnets to stay attached to the iPad but in my case the magnets on one the bottom stopped working so it wouldn’t even really protect the front since it keeps falling off but if you just want a keyboard it works as one thats about it though

    Spotty at best! Aggravating!

    This keyboard is great when it works. I actually have the 12.9 inch model, and I quite enjoy typing on it — but then it doesn’t work! Just writing this review it took me a minute to get the keyboard to connect and work properly. I have to constantly fiddle with and re-adjust the keyboard to get it to work properly, Sometimes it quites between apps, and sometimes it stops working in the middle of writing.

    Unacceptable

    I bought my iPad Pro and keyboard the end of October 2017. Just 3 months ago. About 2 months later, the letters were wearing off my keyboard. Then, it started doing strange things like, as I typed, it would start backspacing over everything. Then, it started having times where it would not type at all. I would disconnect from the magnets, reconnect, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I just had to keep trying until it finally started working again. No rhyme or reason to it. This morning, it literally started repeating forward slash marks and I was not even touching it. I think for $160, this keyboard should work for much longer than 2 months! I am highly disappointed and am going to see about compensation through B&H where I bought it. I would not recommend this keyboard to anyone who will be using it daily all day long. It is obviously dysfunctional.
    The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of only 1 is because I found it easy to type on. It is comfortable and for small hands, it worked well. Someone previously said the magnets need to be stronger and I highly agree with that as well.

    Alright but needs some work.

    Pretty good most of the time but...
    Sometimes it will just stop working and the keys wont type. The command H to go home will work but i wont be able to type anything even the letter H even though it clearly works. Other times the space bar or just one key will stop working. It’s not broken i just have to restart my iPad.
    The magnets need to be a little stronger.
    The keyboard messes up some apps and sometimes i cant click a continue button unless I remove the keyboard from the iPad.
    The form factor is good though i wish there were more colors.
