Good...at first, after 2 years doesn’t work - and expensive

    • Written by LINDA P from FAIRFAX

Apple, please make items that function well, are easy to use, look good and last. Please do not turn into the Cuisinart of electronics - used to be well made, highly functional, long life....I guess various executives cut costs, drove up revenues and made huge amounts of money as they rode the brand into the ground....you can only get away with that for so long. And by the way, I might even give up my iPhone if you continue to make them so slippery it’s inevitable it gets dropped and broken...can’t you add ridge lines to the sides?

    Wish I’d read the reviews!

    • Written by Bob J from Ewhurst

Normally Apple are all about quality but frankly what on earth went wrong here? I got it out the box and was astonished to see that it won’t even lie flat. By placing a pencil under the back support it tips the iPad forwards just enough to lay the keyboard flat but it is a real shame that this is what is needed. How long it will actually last is unknown as I have only just bought it but I have already experienced connectivity issues ( 1 day of use).

That said, the typing experience is not a bad one and certainly a lot better (for me) than the on-board keypad.

Good while it lasts...(one year only max)

    • Written by Peter H from Fairfield

The keyboard is very good while it lasts. The sensitivity and feel of keyboard is very good and allows for very fast typing.

The only thing that is very very frustrating is that within a year the keyboard stops working. I have had three thus far and all three have stopped working within a year. Given the price, it should last much longer.

It seems to be the wiring connecting the keyboard to the iPad as that area has a lot of movement in it and perhaps over time the wiring (which is very thin) just gives way.

I will be taking to an Apple Store to see if they will replace.

Not made to last past 2 years

    • Written by Megan S from Wilmington

I’ve had the apple key board for almost three years now. It worked BEAUTIFULLY until a couple months ago when it let go on me. Sometimes it would type then sometimes it wouldn’t. Now it doesn’t work at all and I have to find a new keyboard. For being the price that it is I would expect it to last much longer, but I don’t think it was made to last a really long time. This is the only flaw I have found with the apple keyboard though. I really liked it when it worked properly because it was so simple. If you are looking for a durable case/keyboard and don’t mind that it will give out eventually then this is for you.

    Shows Wear

    • Written by Nancy B. D from Huntsville

This is not intuitive; I find myself looking for shortcut keys and some placements. My main issue is how quickly the ends of the keyboard wrap show wear. I have had mine for 1-1/2 years, and do not use it regularly. Strings are hanging off, and the metal underneath shows on both ends. This is an inferior product in the Apple lineup.

    Not the best

    • Written by Cindy C from Maple

I love this keyboard; it’s easy to use, portable, light and not Bluetooth required so it saves my battery in that respect. Although I’m lucky that it hasn’t completely bailed out on me for the past 2.5 years I’ve been using it, I’ve noticed that the magnetic strip is falling apart and every 5th time i use it or so it fails to connect without a hard restart. Please, Apple, this is such a useful and sleek product, make it practical for our money!

    Worked great then ‘not compatible’

    • Written by Shawn or Michelle S from Scottsdale

Loved this keyboard and the fact it was a cover also. Worked great for a year and a half then it started draining my battery as it wouldn’t close tightly. Now all I get are pop up messages ‘device incompatible’ and can’t type using the keyboard. Was great as I could type on my lap or table now nothing! Too expensive to quit already. Disappointed.

    Not Entirely Reliable

    • Written by Mercedes N from Whittier

I bought this keyboard for my iPad to type papers (I am an undergraduate English major.) This keyboard stopped working eight months after I purchased it; when I inquired as to why it might have stopped working, the Genius Bar employee did not give me a solid answer. Overall, I like this keyboard, but was disappointed it broke down in less than a year!

    keyboard iPad pro

    • Written by Melissa M from Milton

I love it. When it works. It occasionally disconnects or just quits working at random times without any reason. I love having the keyboard but if this continues, I’ll return it.

    Accessory Support Error

    • Written by Christopher G from Indianapolis

There is another review here about the same thing, so I will type it out also. I have seen that many others have had this problem as well. Even some in schools that I have read about somewhere. My keyboard is creating this Accessory not supported error. When the sound is turned on it keeps creating this specific sound like my iPad is being plugged into the charger every time the face of my iPad is covered, and the cover moves even just a smidge. With the great cost of these smart keyboards, fix this problem or no one should buy your products. Because of this I use my Microsoft Surface more.

I would give this one or two stars, but I give three stars because I feel it's a great project to begin with. I LOVED it until this issue that has begun after only having this thing a year.

    Questionable durability

    • Written by Geoffrey R from Dunedin

The keyboard provided 18-months’ trouble-free and enjoyable service but the connection with the ipad case is now unreliable, with each link loss soliciting the “accessory not supported” response. I love apple products but this ipad accessory has questionable durability.

No FN key so no forward delete option at present

    • Written by SCOTT S from Greenwood Village

Maybe emojis are something everyone really loves to use. Me, I like to work with my devices and get stuff done. I like Apple products and software quite a bit, but also use Windows and PCs a lot as well. One of the things I’ve tolerated on the MacBooks over the years is the absence of a real delete key in favor of only backspace. At least you can work around this by using FN+Delete to get a real forward delete key. Not on this keyboard. It’s not only not possible with that key combo that most any power user would know, it’s not possible at all at present. There is no key combo that does forward delete on this keyboard.

Similarly, there is NO control for media playing. No pause. No “next track.” No volume up or down, and apparently, no key combination that will perform those functions. I do not get this.

The keyboard itself seems exceptionally well made. It’s not all that pleasant to type on. I would never type a lot with this thing, but it’s so minimal and light that it’s great to have to dash off a tweet or a quick email. Serious work tool for this super powerful iPad? No way. Plan to pack an extra keyboard for that. This won’t do. It’s. A little jarring in terms of feel on fingers. But, it does seem sturdy, dirt impervious, water resistant, and easy to have on you at all times you have your iPad. So, it’s useful for that. Just not for any type of serious work.

    Keyboard leaves critical features out

    • Written by Drake P from Madeira Beach

Keyboard leaves critical features out. You cannot speech dictate when the keyboard is connected and you have to disconnect the keyboard in order to dictate your messages and emails etc. the keyboard doesn’t allow you to select emoji’s so all in all I give a three.

Great slim Smart Keyboard case with a few compromises

    • Written by Solomon M from Laurel

The keyboard is slim, light and functional. Very easy to use and has a strong magnetic attachment. For the price of $160, Apple could have at least made the keyboard backlit. That’s a bad apple on their part. In addition, a variety of color options would have been nice to match the different color iPads. The downfall of its slim profile is that the keyboard case does not fully cover the iPad from falls leaving the back and edges exposed. If you intend to use this as a case for your iPad, look elsewhere. Logitech and Brydge both sells keyboard/case combination for far less and provides more features for the money. A great keyboard with a few compromises...

    No foreign characters!!

    • Written by Mike H from GLASGOW

Nice keyboard, but nowhere did the description warn me in advance that there were no foreign characters/accents available when typing with it!! Useless for a full time translator ...

Not the "international" standard I was expecting from Apple ...

Nice Keyboard but letters on keys wear off before 1 year

    • Written by Mary C from Arlington

I enjoy the touch. I like the how slim and sturdy the keyboard is. I like the dual purpose cover/keyboard. Backlighting? It'd be nice but the brightness of the iPad can help with that and the cost would rise a lot. What I don't like is the letters on the keys have worn off in a year. Yeah, I can buy the standard stickers but that ruins the texture/feel. I don't even use my iPad all day for work. Just at night and weekends. I can only imagine if I used it all day.

    iPad Pro Smart Keyboard

    • Written by Nazim U from Sterling Heights

Honestly speaking, I really love the design of the new Smart keyboard, but Apple made a big flaw by not adding the backit. I think Apple should implement haptics touch keys for their next design and have a option in the settings to choose the best haptic touch for your keys just like the iphone 7 & 7 plus.

    Where's the backlighting??

    • Written by Penelope K from Haleiwa

I was all set to purchase this keypad as soon as the 10.5" version hit the market, but I changed my mind for one big reason--no backlighting. Seriously? Is that too hard to do for a company that makes the most innovative phones & tablets on the market?? Come on Apple. Step it up! And while you're at it, add a pencil holder.

    Excellent note taker

    • Written by Sean C from Akron

I have used my macbook pro around campus and while it’s a great workhorse, it’s a pain to haul around, the battery life isn’t great, and it’s a chore to use on the tiny desks we have for lectures. I tried a microsoft surface and surface pro, but the kickstand on them made it even harder to use on those tiny desks. Enter the ipad pro. The keyboard on this is short and forward, and the ipad is propped up closer to me than the back of the desk. I can easily fit this on college lecture class desks. I have never found a good device for these settings until now.

The lack of backlit keyboards is an issue in classes where the lights are out for projectors, though. The keys can also be very loud. I have to be careful how I type when using this keyboard so I don’t disturb those around me. It’s doable, and light typing doesn’t cause keys to miss, but being used to really beating down on my keyboards, it’s annoying. I also wish they had them in different colors, but that’s not really a functional problem. Propping the ipad up with this keyboard folded back makes it unstable too. Surprisingly, you CAN use this in your lap, since the viewing angle on the ipad is so wide.

If you are in college and need a good device for around campus use, get this keyboard! It’s not as bulky as the others, but it definetly adds heft, so skip the larger ipad if you plan on getting this keyboard.
