    Absolute Piece of Junk

    • Written by Tod S from Concord

$69 for a piece of leather with a magnet in it? Not anything like the old case for the Air 2. Oh wait, it is just like it minus the back half. The cover is held on by a strip magnet on one side. Absolutely no protection if it's dropped and the magnet allows the cover to fall off the pad itself. Knowing all this I might have bought it for, maybe, $500 or as high as $9 if i just wanted a cover. But $69.99? just another attempt at what Apple is good for. The Price gouging of its loyal customers..

    Apple Smart Cover is Lemon.

    • Written by Joyce S from North Las Vegas

I had never purchased a cover/case for my IPads from apple. So, I decided this time to purchase this cover for the new IPad Air. The magnet will not hold, so it keep coming off leaving the front unprotected as well as the back. For $69 bucks? No, not recommend.

Sending this back hadn’t realised it only covered back ridiculously expensive for a thin piece of leather which offers no protection

Just a cover that falls off; not a full case

    • Written by Scott R from Austin

Since this cover easily falls off with the lightest of touches, how can this cover claim to provide any protection at all? We need a full case, like the smart case that Apple used to make for the iPads. We need a case that the entire iPad snaps into, and completely protects both the front and back and provides full protection.

    Poor quality

    • Written by Raul D from San Francisco

I’ve had the leather cover a couple of years and the leather is separating from the cover on all four corners. Took it to the Apple Store and was told that’s normal. I had the polyurethane one before and it was indestructible. Don’t buy the leather one!

Bought two new iPads and two new ‘cases’ to go with them, stupidly assuming they were the same as the old ones. It only goes over the front, it’s a £75 screen protector! Completely pointless, I have screen protectors to protect the screen, I don’t need a £75 flap of tacky leather to do that job. Should’ve got proper 3rd-party cases on Amazon (for a lot less money). Unbelievable that they fail to include this ‘back’ view in the product photos.

I have an older version of the leather case that covers that back and front of a previous generation iPad. It was much sturdier than this version. This one is overpriced and offers little besides being Apple branded. It’s thin, falls off constantly, and provides zero protection. I’ll be surprised if it lasts a year. Listen, Apple, since you charge premium prices, you need to deliver premium products across the board - including cables, covers, chargers, etc. This cover is a disappointment.

    The worst case ever

Has no back , over priced junk. I should have sent it back a long with the iPad last year when I bought them.

This cover do no provide the expected protection

    • Written by Gonzalo B from Boca Raton

This cover do not protect the iPad as I was expecting and used to. It only protect the screen side and as it has magnets to keep it on place, it slips very easily. It is very common to get the case in the hand while the iPad drops.

I do not recommend to buy!

    Excellent Cover

    • Written by Erik I from Tehachapi

This is a cover only it is not a case nor is it intended to be. It does exactly as it was designed to do, be a cover for your iPad its not a smart case and it is not advertised as such. People who leave negative reviews of this COVER obviously have a lack of reading comprehension.

    Poor Value

    • Written by Richard L from BRAINTREE

At £69 This product represents extremely poor value. It only covers the screen and affords no protection for the back of the iPad Pro. I intend to return the cover and ask for a refund.

    Complete waste of money

    • Written by Yalembirhan M from Kitchener

Does not protect the back so spending $99 on a 10 inch piece of fabric with a magnet just does not make sense. If this was $20 maybe but for this price you can get a solid case for it elsewhere

Great Cover, Ignore the other reviews

    • Written by Rich D from Atlanta

The other reviews on this item are useless. The other reviewers were obviously too incompetent to read the description to know what they were buying so they took it out on Apple via the reviews. It's a great cover which is what it is designed for. If they wanted a case and cover, they should have bought that item and not this one. Don't blame a company if you're too lazy and stupid to understand what you are buying.

    Why is there no back?!?

    • Written by Tyler T from Scottsdale

What is the point of a cover if it doesn't protect the back? The previous Apple folio covered the front and back of the iPad Air.

Finally, the form and function of the original one-piece Smart Covers!

    • Written by Daniel C from Bakersfield

Well constructed with high quality materials, this Leather Smart Cover is a perfect fit for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro. It fits similarly to the one-piece covers for the iPad Air and iPad mini (pre mini 4) series. I prefer to have just the Smart Cover on my iPad, keeping the whole configuration as thin as possible.

In the past (iPad Air and iPad mini [pre mini 4] series), Apple made separate matching Smart Covers and Smart Cases, each fitting their respective iPad perfectly with a front-only or complete coverage. With the iPad mini 4 and the 12.9 and 9.7-inch iPad Pros, Apple went to modular design with a thicker Smart Cover (with annoying “overhang”) and a Silicone Case. Together, they worked well; but when used alone, the Smart Covers fit loosely and added unnecessary thickness and bulk. In fact, the thickness reduction gained by the iPad mini 4 over the iPad mini 3 was lost with the thicker Smart Cover design! I never understood why the Smart Covers needed to be so thick, so I am thrilled that Apple returned to the previous thinner design.

If you want a complete case enclosure for the 10.5-inch iPad Pro, this product is not for you. But if you want a Smart Cover designed to cover the front of the iPad only, the Leather Smart Cover is perfect!

    Where is the smart case?

    • Written by Simon W from Brooklyn

This is useless to me, as it offers no protection for the back of the iPad. It is nicely designed as these covers always are, but without an accompanying back case, what is the point? So I am now forced to use a horrendously ugly $15 3rd party case with my beautiful new iPad Pro. What I really want is the lightweight leather smart case that shipped with the original iPad Air. That was perfect and is still going strong for us all these years later. Apple's leather sleeve is nice for designers, but for people who want to use this iPad in the regular way iPads have been used since their inception, it is useless. My iPad spends at least half of its time stood up with the tri-fold case. A sleeve means I'd have to rest it on salt shakers or a stack of magazines or something. Not the most elegant or safe solution for sure.

Why is case for back missing?

    • Written by Barbara P from Keswick

Where is the matching case to protect the back of 10.5 iPad?

I bought matching cover and case in midnight blue for my 9.7 inch iPad from online Apple Store and really like it.

After buying cover for new 10.5 iPad in saddle brown, I returned it when I realized the case was not available.

Went to Amazon and found nice case but would rather have cover and case that Apple used to provide. Would buy from Apple if this is offered in future. I hope it is. Quality of Apple product is better and well worth the price, at least, in my opinion.

    An utter waste of money

    • Written by david C from Elberton

Bought the new iPad at launch and there really were no other options. I should have saved my money. The "case" adheres to the iPad with a very weak magnet…so weak that it often comes detached - even by the weight of the iPad itself. Poor execution, which is very disappointing considering this is Apple.

Just a cover, not a case

    • Written by MICHAEL C from Sanford

I thought this was a Smart Case like the one I have for my iPad Air 2, but it is only a screen cover. Ridiculous for $69, only $10 less than the Smart Case. I get the feeling Apple is trying to push 10.5 iPad Pro buyers into the much more expensive sleeve, which doesn't offer the functionality, convenience or protection (when the iPad is in use) of the older Smart Case design. I will be returning this tomorrow and look to the aftermarket for a suitable case that protects both the front and back of my new iPad, and hopefully has a sleeve for the Pencil as well. Apple dropped the ball on this one.

Like previous versions, but should be complimented by a proper back/case.

    • Written by Thomas P from Hanover

This is fundamentally identical to the leather Smart Covers that came before it.
Like those, the material is decent and the magnetic attachment mechanism novel, but the overall design is still not suited to all situations.
I'm also somewhat disappointed that Apple doesn't have any case, leather or otherwise, to compliment the 10.5-inch iPad Pro at launch.
Perhaps Apple will finally engineer an iPad equivalent to the sturdy leather case they make for the iPhone.
Until then, as much as I dig the Smart Cover's simple design and aesthetic, I'm not sure I can recommend this for anyone who wants full, front AND back, protection that befits their significant investment in the 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Also, perhaps the saddle/tan (on my Smart Case for the iPad mini 2) is better than the blue, but that's subjective...
And, will these ever be offered in GREEN?
