Joel Podolny

Joel Podolny is vice president and dean of Apple University, reporting to CEO Tim Cook. Prior to joining Apple in 2008, Joel served for three years as dean and professor at the Yale School of Management.

From 2002 to 2005, Joel was a professor of Sociology, Business Administration, Leadership, and Management at the Harvard Business School and the Harvard University Faculty of Arts and Sciences. He has also held several faculty positions at the Stanford University Graduate School of Business.

In addition to authoring or co-authoring more than 30 articles, Joel wrote the book Status Signals: A Sociological Approach to Market Competition and co-wrote the textbook Strategic Management. He earned his Ph.D. in 1991, his A.M. in 1989, and his A.B. magna cum laude in 1986 from Harvard University.
