Apple Distinguished Educators (ADEs) are part of a global community of education leaders recognised for doing amazing things with Apple technology in and out of the classroom. They explore new ideas, seek new paths and embrace new opportunities. That includes working with each other — and with Apple — to bring the freshest, most innovative ideas to students everywhere.

ADEs work closely with Apple to lead innovation in education.

ADEs advise Apple on integrating technology into learning environments — and share their expertise with other educators and policy makers. They author original content about their work. They advocate the use of Apple products that help engage students in new ways. And they are ambassadors of innovation, participating in and presenting at education events around the world. Being part of the ADE community is much more than an honour — it’s an opportunity to make a difference.

There are now more than 2,000 ADEs worldwide, from the United States to China, New Zealand to Turkey. And they gather every year at ADE Institutes and education events around the world as well as online in the ADE community to collaborate on solutions to the global education challenges of today and tomorrow.

Abdul Chohan, Class of 2011

Abdul Chohan, Director at Essa Academy, has nurtured teacher and student relationships by creating an anytime, anywhere learning environment. Under the guidance of Abdul’s visionary leadership, Essa, once a failing school in Bolton, has seen a fundamental shift at the heart of its culture. The dramatic redesign of Essa’s learning spaces and the introduction of an iOS learning environment has led to Essa’s best achievement increase ever.

Noemi Trainor, Class of 2012

In her quest for authentic content, Noemi Trainor, Founder/Principal at The Varmond School in Mexico, is spearheading a curriculum revolution throughout Latin America. With iPads at their fingertips, the teachers are able to customise learning for every student and provide an interactive, bilingual-based curriculum using Multi-Touch books created in iBooks Author.

Mark Coppin, Class of 2009

In his role as Director of Assistive Technology, Mark works with educators at the Anne Carlsen Center in North Dakota to find appropriate tools that make the curriculum accessible to all learners. Mark uses Apple technology to open up a world of opportunities for students with diverse learning needs, and is seeing incredible gains with students on the Autism spectrum.

James Humberstone, Class of 2009

James Humberstone, Composer in Residence, has taken a unique approach to teaching Music at MLC School in Australia. James uses MacBooks and GarageBand to direct student learning, culminating in the unique assessment of musical creation, composition and performance. A PhD candidate in composition, James is both a professional musician and collaborator in the learning process.

Jochen Bretschneider, Class of 2011

Jochen Bretschneider is an Associate Professor at VU University Medical Centre in the Netherlands. His unique educational innovation is a scalable approach to teaching that is implemented through iTunes U. Now Jochen can share his expertise using a wide range of teaching assets — and hundreds of medical students can study otolaryngology whether they’re at home or on the go.

Audrey Van Alstyne, Class of 2006

Not all ADEs are classroom teachers. Audrey Van Alstyne, District Principal for Learning Technologies for the Vancouver School Board in Canada, works with teachers from across her education authority to successfully implement technology in their classrooms. By focusing on challenge-based learning projects, Audrey is helping teachers and students work together to craft meaningful projects that solve real-world problems through enquiry.
