Will a 12 watt power adapter charge the new MacBook?

Can I charge a new MacBook (USB-C) using an Apple 10 or 12 watt power adapter and a USB A to C adapter. The USB-C uses a 29 watt adapter. Am I correct that it will charge but will be slower?

Yes, it will charge. I charge mine that way in some locations.

  • Hi, found your question while searching for another solution. Thought I answer you with my experience.

I am using the MacBook Pro 13 [2017] and MacBook Pro 15 TouchBar [2016].
If you have the 87W or 60w adaptor of your MacBook Pro its should work fine.

But if you are using a converter and a lower wattage adaptor , it will charge the MacBook but at a much slower rate.
My iPad 12W adaptor charged it over the night but my 9W mobile phone adaptor was way too slow to even try.

    Regards.
