You would want to contact your cable company to make sure you have the latest modem. They should upgrade you, if you are renting the modem from them. Also, your download/upload speed is determined by your internet plan with the cable company. The speed of the AE won't mean anything if you are paying for a slower internet connection. It will however help for transferring files between computers, and things like that.
