Sadly no, the iPad, iPad 2, iPad 3rd Gen, and iPad air models all require a more powerful 10-12w adapter. This will just prompt the iPad to have the "not charging" in the corner.

  • This charger came with my 1st gen iPad mini, which I bought new, and it charges it just fine. It is a 5 volt at 1 amp charger as printed on the prong side. (Volts x Amps = Watts, thus it is listed as a 5 Watt charger)

  • For an iPad 2, you need to purchase a 12W power adapter instead.

If you use a 5W power adapter, the charging speed will be slow.

Only the iPad mini 1 was supplied with a 5W power adapter. All the later models of iPad mini and all the models of 'big' iPads were supplied with 10W or 12W power adapters.

10W power adapters are not available nowadays for purchase, so you should purchase a 12W Apple power adapter that will work as a perfect replacement for your lost adapter that was supplied with your iPad 2.
