If your Mac is Intel-based, has at least 1GB of memory, and a working optical drive, then purchase the Snow Leopard installation DVD from the Apple Store (either online or at a retail store). $19.99 with free shipping.
To determine if your Mac is Intel-based, go to the Apple menu and select "About this Mac". In the resulting dialog box, look at the "Processor" description. If the word "Intel" appears anywhere in that description, you have an Intel-based Mac.
