No, you don't "need" to buy 2 discs, but you need to have a license for each Mac you install it on to.
The license that comes with the US$29 disk limits the installation of the OS to a SINGLE Apple-branded computer.
The license that comes with the Family Pack (US$49) allows installation on up to FIVE Apple-branded computers in the same household.

If you bbuy the family pack, you do not need to buy the 2nd disc, bbut if you get the standard upgrade, you do need to buy 2 dics. Family Pack: $50.00 for 3 copies, standard $29.00 for 1 copy.
