You don't give the year or the model identifier of your Mac Book Pro. To find the model identifier go to "Apple Menu" --> "About This Mac" --> "More Info" --> "System Report" --> "Hardware" (in left pane) --> "Hardware Overview (in right pane).
Second line down is the Model Identifier. The last OS X to support each model identifier is as follows:
Snow Leopard (OS 10.6) -> MacBookPro1,1 or MacBookPro1,2
Lion (OS 10.7) -> MacBookPro2,1 or MacBookPro2,2
El Capitan (OS 10.11) -> MacBookPro3,1 thru MacBookPro5,5
High Sierra (OS 10.13) -> MacBookPro6,1 thru MacBookPro14,3
OS 10.9 thru OS 10.13 are free and if still available can be downloaded through the AppStore app which is installed with each OS X from OS 10.6.8 and later.
Depending on your Model Identifier, OS10.11 will only be available if OS 10.6.8 currently installed, but once OS 10.7 or later is installed then OS 10.12 can be installed. (The release of OS 10.13 is still pending and should occur in latter half of September 2017.)
OS 10.7 or OS 10.8 can be purchased through the online Apple Store. You get a redemption code which then allows you to download and install through the App Store app.
