Steve Jobs announced on January 7, 2003 that Apple had developed its own web browser, and was calling it "Safari". It was included as the default browser with Mac OS X Panther (OS 10.3) when Panther was released on October 23, 2003. Before that Safari was available as an update to Mac OS X Jaguar (OS 10.2) for those who wanted to update from the included Microsoft Internet Explorer for Mac.
The first version of Safari was Safari 1.0. The last version to support OS 10.2 was Safari 1.0.3 released on August 13, 2004. The last version to support OS 10.3 was Safari 1.3.2 released on January 12, 2006.
