    Power adaptors do not last

Apple needs to rethink the design of the Magsafe power adaptors. I have bought replacement Magsafe Power adaptors in the past because they don't always last. Sometimes 1-2 years but this recent one only lasted 3 months. At $80 per adaptor this is ridiculous. Read online, many consumers have had the same issues.

    An awful awful charger

I have owned this power adapter a month and it has already broken. Word that rhymes with duck you, apple, word that rhymes with duck you. These things are the worst power adapters on the planet. I resent being charged nearly 100 for a new one AFTER A BLOODY MONTH, one month, exactly one month people.

    Not Really Improved

I bought this as a replacement for the original adapter for my 13" Macbook, which shorted out after 13 months of regular use (primarily in house). This design is suppose to be an improvement on the original design (the cord was originally perpendicular to the Macbook instead of flush to the body) and mimics the design of the power adapter that's been used for the Macbook Air since its inception (which I've had for over 2 years and works fine). This cord shorted at the mag tip after 39 days! Do not wrap the cord around the included hooks, but instead coil it loose and secure it with Velcro. Apparently, wrapping the cord on the "designed for storage hooks" is no longer possible with the new power adapters, even though I have adapters from my much older 12" and 15" Powerbooks (2000/2003) that are still working fine and are stored in this manner regularly. This is starting to make me reconsider ever buying another Mac laptop. Having to pay $79 for replacement power adapters twice in less than 18 months is getting to be an expensive owner's tax for having a Mac.

    Very Fragile

I received my first 60W MagSafe Power Adapter with the purchase of my new MacBook. It stopped working less than a year after I bought it. I got sent a replacement as it was still under warranty. The replacement cord, lasted less than six months. I'm now buying my THIRD version of this product. If this continues, my next computer will be a PC.

    Resolved my "Not Charging" issue.

My initial MacBook Pro charger (which came with the Mac) was not even a year old, and already started to have issues with the MagSafe. It would constantly say that my battery was not charging -- even when it was plugged in!

After much hesitation, I purchased this one and it works perfectly (so far). It resolved the "Not Charging" issue. Hopefully it won't fall apart as fast as my first charger that came with the Mac --- these are expensive!

    Awesome

This new charger is great, the old one after about a year and a half broke, brought it to the apple store, told them I wanted a new one for free, and they went rent to the shelf and gave me one, and I have to say that Apple has great customer service.

    NEW Design

The new design is awesome, recently purchased another one after the first charger had frayed. Haven't had it for a long period yet, but there are noticeable differences from the other model. It does not get as hot, wires are sturdy and thicker. But the only problem with this is that I use a shell and it gets in the way of my Ethernet and firewire 800, and would have to take the bottom shell off when I have to use the firewire to log and capture.

    Too expensive

I wouldn't even mind that I've had to replace the power cord twice in a year (both were my fault), but at $80 each, it adds up. I hate to say it (I love my Mac), but Dell cords are $25 to replace, and I'm not sure the Mac is worth an extra $100+ per year. When this one goes, I might look elsewhere...

    Well built

Ok, I've only had this product for three days now, so I can't speek for its long term duribility, but it's been great so far. The DC power connector feels much more sturdy than the previous model, but CAN block some ports (ethernet and firewire 800/mini displayport, depending on macbook/13'' pro). You can (as I do), flip it the other way so that no ports are blocked, however, this cannot be done when using a hardshell case. Still, that would be the case manufacturer's fault, and not apple's.
Also, the swappable power plugs are a huge convienence. I leave the extended one plugged in at my desk, and just swap it out for the mini plug when not there (living room, possibly school/work).
Also, some people have complained about the $79 price tag. THIS IS ACCUALLY A REASONABLE PRICE FOR A LAPTOP POWER CABLE (mostly because it also includes the 'brick' converter, which is built-in to the computer on most desktop systems).

    only OK

included with my white unibody macbook.
It works alright, I've had almost no problem with it except for the shape of the plug.
When you plug it in, it blocks the Ethernet and mini display ports. You can turn it the other way, but it still kinda gets in the way, also, I don't use a case, but someone else said that if you do, it won't fit in correctly the other way.
It does the job, but I think I like the old shape a little better

    So so...

i havn't noticed in any of the other reviews the mention that if you plug it in the way it is shown on the apple website to plug it in, that it covers the ethernet port. You may be thinking, "Oh just flip it the other way." WRONG about 50% of macbook users have cases and cases prevent it from plugging in to the mac correctly the other way. nice design, looks 10 times better, but the design is a fail.

    Just terrible

Doesn't fit snugly, doesn't reliably charge when plugged in, falls out half of the time. I spent $80 on the worst power cord I have ever used.

    eh..

I like the MagSafe idea it is great and this came with my 13" white unibody MacBook but the one thing I hate about it is the design....I do not like that the cord comes out the end rather than the side like it did on the old ones. When I use this one, I have to adjust which way it is facing or the cord will be pulled. I kinda miss the old design.

    Best Power Cord!!

The power cord is sturdy and well build. When moving a couch I accidentally dropped it on my power cord, the thing still survived! Do not listen to those nay-sayers.

    Better then the original design

After my dog took a run at my out-of-box adapter and it, finally, biting the big one, I picked this up from my local Apple store. A lot cleaner of a design as far as how it attaches, relatively flat and flush. Should cut down on the cord pulling out of the mag. Still warms quite a bit (same as before) and Apple has not addressed the cord-to-powerbrick attachment, so could still pull out down the road. That aside, excellent choice for replacement.
Model being used on: 2008 13" MacBook.

    Much better design

This seems to be a much better design than the old magsafe plug. The construction is more robust, and the head/plug lies flat against the the computer so it isn't as prone to being knocked about. I have a clear hard case to protect my macbook aluminum, and i can confirm it works absolutely fine with the case installed. Still overpriced at $79, but at least its $20 cheaper than the old one.

    just bought this product

I just bought this product because it is the one that came with my new macbook and my cat got mad because he was not getting attention and took the cord out with one bite. This sent a power serge to my laptop that turned it off and reset it so when I turned it back on it thought it was new years eve 2000. So its good but all I have to say is my kitten friend it with one bite so be careful.

    Worst MagSafe yet!

I think I am now on my 7th MagSafe power adapter in the last four years (three different macs)-- I guess I just lose track when I have to replace them as often as I do. I purchased this one about a month and a half ago to replace a sparking, frayed MagSafe, (only a year old), and was excited that it was a new model, but it has already failed. The worst part is that even though it would work for a few minutes, when it did inevitably fail, it would power surge, which immediately caused my macbook to shut off. Oh yeah, and it's still really hot at the power brick, and potentially gets very hot at the adapter, too.

looks way better with my macbook pro

So, I recently bought a new Macbook Pro. My friend's adapter for her macbook died and she had to buy a new one, and this one was the only one they had available, so she bought it. Because she had a hard case, this wasn't a good fit with her computer. So, I traded her my adapter for this one because it looked way cooler. There are also some very functional upsides. First, it is much harder to accidentally knock out of the port. Second, it does not overheat AT ALL which is a drastic improvement from the old ones which used to burn me when I touched them. Third, it's much slimmer and looks way better when paired with the aluminum unibody Macbooks in contrast to the white adapter, which looks dated and cheap.
