    On second replacement

    Okay i have had this laptop for three years, I have bought a new charger twice. A month ago the first replacement failed and was ripped so i bought a new one i have had it for about a week or two and it is starting to fail now, very upset now visible wear or tear.

    Worked...for a year...

    I bought my MacBook Pro back in December 2011. This past month (July 2013) It has been overheating to the point to where it actually BURNED me. It is not working at all as of today (July 23rd) and I am NOT going to pay $80 for a new one. Up yours, Apple.

    Snap, crackle, pop... one disappointed Mac user

    My old Mac laptop lasted me from nearly 6 years before I finally had to admit that I needed more memory/speed/etc. But the power adaptor itself had never given me trouble. Bought the MacBook Pro in July 2012 (exactly a year ago), and after about 8 months, the 60W adaptor began crackling wherever and whenever I plugged it into an outlet (always grounded). Within a few weeks of that, I'd occasionally see sparks. Now I'm to the point where I have to wiggle it around and even tape the cord into awkward positions to get a charge to run to my computer. It reminds me of the days in the 80's when I'd have to wiggle wire hangers on top of my tube television to get a signal to come in. I am absolutely SHOCKED that an Apple product is doing this, and even more shocked to see just how many people are out there experiencing the same thing. It's only 12 months old, shot, and costs $$ to replace! Steve Jobs is rolling in his grave, Apple. GET ON THIS! You can do better.

    On my third charger in less than 2 years

    Charger #1: 45W which came with my Macbook Air. Problems started within 3 months. Depending on what kind of mood it was in, I got: the "Not Charging" battery icon, absolutely nothing, or a green light (and a charge!) which would disappear at the slightest touch. Right after the one year mark, it stopped working altogether. My bf chalked it up to me not taking care of my things, but it's a CHARGER with a CORD that's meant to be wrapped and unwrapped, and twisted and bent occasionally.

    Charger #2: 60W. Slightly bigger but same flimsy design. (Why place the cord in the middle when no matter how we wrap it's going to bend at a pretty harsh angle???). I was annoyingly careful with this one and what did that extra effort get me? NOTHING! This one lasted half as long and when it went, it was a quick sudden death.

    Charger #3: I am ordering from China for 1/4 of the price. Since I'm expecting the quality to be poor, I won't be disappointed. But honestly, it can't imagine it could be any worse.

    Wake up, Apple!

    Horrible

    Apple charger, I really wanted to give you a 5 star but you don't deserve it. At $80 per charger I think it's time you make a charger that lasts...

    Ugh!

    I've had my macbook for going on about three months and the cord is already breaking. I take very good care of my cords and have not put it under any undo stress and the fact that it is already failing is absolutely infuriating. I will be in the middle of using my laptop and then it'll stop charging. Since so many people have had theirs break (so apple knows that their power cords are faulty) setting the price for a new one at 80 dollars is ridiculous considering that you're probably going to have to replace it again in a couple months.

    Planned obsolescence

    I am a shareholder and our family of 5 owns over 20 Apple products, but these power adaptors are terrible. I feel taken every time I purchase a new one. We have three laptops and I am looking at a pile of seven failed adaptors. We are now fighting to use the one good one left, and it's a nightmare.
    The nearest store is over 40 miles away. I know Apple can do better than this, and it's a shame we feel agitated every six months when these plugs die.

    Power Cord broken again

    I'm currently using my third power adaptor since I bought my Macbook Pro in the summer of 2009.

    The first one actually lasted approximately two years and then I had to buy a new one. There was no visible damage, but it just suddenly failed due to inside-damage near the place where the power cord is inserted into the Macbook Pro.

    The second and third one have both lasted no more than one year, before they showed outside signs of damage, at the exact same spot it has broken before. My latest power cable is still working and I hope it will continue to work for some more weeks to come, but I really feel it could break for real any moment now.

    PLEASE improve the quality of the power cord or start selling a more robust version of the power cable.

    That's how they get you

    My first adaptor failed within three months of purchasing my MacBook. The connection between the end wire and magnetic plug came loose, rendering the adaptor useless. Apple replaced that adaptor as my MacBook was still under warranty. A year and some later, my second adapter is failing from a tear in the rubber casing under light household use and doesn't stay green for more than a few minutes each time I wiggle the cord. Reading some of the other reviews here I suppose I should consider myself lucky my second adaptor has lasted this long. This adaptor is a serious flaw in the Macbook system.

    Fairly incompetent design

    I bought this charger along with my Macbook Pro 2 years ago and it frayed and stopped working twice before dying altogether now.
    It is hard to understand why a company that prides itself on its design routinely manufactures this garbage and extorts from its customers.
    One of the worst (and most expensive, considering it's total lack of durability) Apple products out there.

    Apple has horrible chargers

    I have never had to replace a laptop charger until I got my macbook pro. I absolutely love this computer and paid a ridiculous amount of money for it and now im having to replace a charger for it constantly. $80 is unacceptable for a charger that i know i will have to replace in the future. Not to mention how many iphone cables i have to replace almost every few months! I am not rough with the chargers just poor design. Apple please listen to your customers and fix this issue!

    Apple I love you, but you're bringing me down.

    In the words of LCD Soundsystem, "Apple I love you, but you're bringing me down."

    MagSafe is really cool and MacBooks are absolutely beautiful. But you just keep making shoddy cables, and then refusing to admit your mistakes when you get thousands of 1-star reviews. You need to make a replacement program for these, before you get another class-action lawsuit.

    I'm currently on my second of these, in need of a third. And it's not because of strain relief or me using it roughly. It's because Apple uses a matte-finish rubber which looks cool but which becomes mush over time. Eventually, it just splits open because the covering is mostly liquefied. As if that weren't enough, it's filled with green goop that comes spilling out of the break, making it nigh impossible to tape over (which, should you succeed, only delays the inevitable - the break expands quickly).

    And then, they charge $80 for a replacement cable that's predestined to break; it's just a huge racket. This may be my first and last MacBook. I don't think any other laptop on the market has this same problem, and now there are laptops with the same features as an rMBP for half the price. I love you Apple, but you're making this decision too easy; shall we say our farewells already?

    terrible

    Apple, read this message, I have to buy a new charger now because the chord wires are exposed on top and bottom, it's unacceptable that you can sink so low because of your refusal to re-engineer this. Please fix the problem, so customers wouldn't complain about it.

    People, if your willing to buy an apple macbook pro, be aware of how much money you will cough up to replace a charger. Someone has to suffer to tell someone this, I am no happy right now, shame on you apple.

    UGH

    Terrible charger. I've had my MacBook for nearly 3 yrs now, and the chargers are much too expensive to keep replacing (not that they should need to be replaced that often, but because of the god-awful quality, they do). Not to mention my first charger got totally destroyed from gently being packed up and moved around. Awful, awful, awful !

    Disappointed

    What I'm really surprised about is that apple hasn't come up with some kind of recycling or refurbish program for the MagSafe given the amount of complaints. My mbp was bought in 2011, I use my ipad when I'm out, I think the worse part was that I was home alone (single female lol) and by the time I realized the book wasn't charging there were already blue sparks flying out around the white box on my floor and the sound, I couldn't get it unplugged fast enough. Mine all wore out just past the white box part, I have the long power cord hooked into it, I never wrap the cord up ... It's the design, my hp pink netbook that cost 200$ was, no exaggeration, a million times more durable, I'd rather take the chance that I might catch the cord and have the book fall than have some over priced magnet grip that wears out with minimal use.

    Mac charger

    Im sorry but the quality of the charger is really bad. It is unacceptable in 2 years to change the charger twice. plus, its not a cheap charger nor a cheap laptop. This is ridiculous. I woke up today and my charger is not working, again.

    Agree with All Other Reviews - Just Awful

    Third time replacing my Macbook Pro charger in 2 years. This should not happen. And it is not just me. Look at all the other negative reviews with the same issues. My girlfriend's Macbook Pro charger just went too. On mine and hers there were no visual signs of damage and my gf treats her Mac and all accessories with extreme care. This is ridiculous... Hey, aren't PCs on sale right now.....? Fix this issue Apple.

    Horrible

    I have had my laptop for 5 years now. In that 5 years I have bought over 6 new chargers! That is insane, with shipping and taxes I am over $600 almost for a new charger. I am extremely dissatisfied with the chargers. Love the computers but buying a new charger ever 6-12 months is a pain. Normal usage, the laptop rarely moves. It sits on a desk. So it isnt wear and tare.

    Recall please!!

    They really need to make a recall. My charger still works after 3 years however, the rubber coating has begun to turn green and peel off the metal wires inside. I never travel with this computer so I haven't mistreated it. I now have electrical tape covering the exposed wires.

    Ridiculous!

    I just purchased my MacBook Pro 5 months ago, and the power adaptor no longer works - are you kidding me?! 5 months and I can no longer charge my MyBook - FAIL Apple.
    I expect more from a company I've stayed with for 3 decades.
