    Piece of junk

Got a MacBook like 3 years ago, the cord for that died a year ago and I got this. Now this died and I don't have the receipt because I sent that in to get reimbursed on my adapter. I haven't got my money and now my adapter is dead. Thanks apple, like any other college student, of course I have another $80 to spend on a new adapter. (That's sarcasm by the way Apple techs since you guys can figure out how to make a half decent cord)

This is the most inefficient charging device I've ever purchased! Truly a curse to the overall product. Bad thing is to replace it, the cost is another $79.00 only after a year... :(

    This thing Stinks!! Run!

I agree with what Jenny B wrote on Nov. 29th!! I hate having to find my "sweet spot" as she so perfectly stated. These cords stink and for $80 you would think they'd be made out of gold or titanium at least but their NOT! Good luck to you if you start to notice a problem kiss that thing goodbye and buy a new one now.

6th charger, 3rd of this kind

All I can say is that with the high price and horrible quality of these cords, I will not be buying a macbook for my next computer. I have spent $500 on cords for one computer. Nice little profit boost for Apple. This cord is a slight improvement over the previous version but the actual cord does not stand the test of time. The material of the cord isn't sturdy at all. The part that attaches to the magnetic port is also made poorly. I have to jiggle it to get it to keep charging and because of that it came apart completely after awhile. You shouldn't have to constantly be thinking about whether or not your computer is charging while using your computer. You also shouldn't have to sit like a stone statue to ensure it stays in the "sweet spot". If you buy one of these cord I highly suggest that you take a roll of white duct tape and wrap it around the length of the cord up to the power box. The 6th cord broke this camel's back and I'm writing this review on 18% battery. I will be getting myself any computer that isn't a macbook for this Christmas because of a stupid little cord...

    Issue with charger

I have had my macbook for almost 2 years and am now on my 3rd charger. Same issue with the first two, the charger is unable to charge my laptop but with some maneuvering I am able to use it for maybe a month or two from when I start seeing the issue. I went to apple and one of their "geniuses" told me that I need to be more careful with it and it is because of my mishandling that it is breaking. I never take my charger out of my room or feel that I handle it too rough.

    Very displeased with this charger

I bought my macbook about 1 year and a half ago, and the L shape charger that it came with is already broken. The part that connects to the port has totally broken of, and I can see the clean cut of wires and the glue residue, this product was not made properly or with quality. Even though Apple states that there products are the best. My older brother has the old apple charger for about 4-5 years now and it still works perfectly. Aren't newer products meant to last longer?
I am very disappointed. Now my birthday present is going to be a new charger since they cost so much. Will i have to buy a new one every year? I hope not.

Buying my third power adapter in 3 years... not a waste of money at all.

I have my mac book for two years, I am buying my third power cord. It is very flimsy, cover on wires easily damaged, wires brake. Expensive to replace.

    3 Chargers In....

Ok this is becoming very annoying, I am about to have to purchase my 3rd charger for my laptop. I purchased this last one not even a year ago and already I am having to purchase another one due to the charger breaking at the point where it is attached to the part that connects to the laptop...

THIS IS VERY VERY ANNOYING. You are a multi billion dollar company with access to unlimited research and trails, figure out a better way to make a longer lasting charger before we all switch to windows 8 and start buying PC's. R.I.P Steve

Such quality is not expected from Apple

I thought Steve Jobs paid close attention to everything... how could have missed paying attention to power cord which do not long more than a year,... rubber comes off like thick glue stuck on wire in 8-9 months...

    Breaks - AGAIN

the right angle connection is no improvement over the old straight connector (that I notice the new Retina display models are using again), they ALL twist and break near the connector.

Apple needs to incorporate some sort of flexible strain relief near the connector.

convenient but it does'nt last. the wire frays at both ends of the cords. I usually have to get a replacement every few years. not bad until you consider its $80

    Poor quality for price

Apple products are typically very well made - and they should be, since you have to pay premium for them. However, the chargers are an exception; you pay premium, but get some cheap, flimsy wire.

After less than a year, the charger wire, which is noticeably weak material, had started to split. The L shaped head has fallen apart; the magnetic connector came away from the charger. This is through absolutely ordinary use. It seems to me that, as great as the magnetic connector is in theory, it's not attached to a sturdy enough component, which means the strain on the head from simply connecting to and disconnecting from the laptop is too much. This wasn't as much of a problem with the T shaped headed chargers since they detached more easily (safely) and with less stress on the product than the L charger.

Overall, considering you're paying for very basic technology, the quality of the materials should be far better. Extremely disappointed. Apple, either charge far less for these chargers (to reflect the poor quality) or improve the quality so they are worth the price!

    Yes, this is lame.

I am so gentle with my MacBook and its charger,
but it ups and dies on me anyway. Judging from
the common sentiment represented in the reviews
for this product, need I say more?

But I also think it is unreasonably expensive, especially
    for being so lame.

    Worst Charger ever

This is the worst part of owning a mac book pro. THe charger is absolutely horrible. Mine got busted in 1.5 years. Apple really needs to improve the design. Very disappointed in apple and this charger is not worth 80 bucks.

    Expensive and low quality

My girlfriend's charger is now taped up as after around a year of use the wire has become frayed (search for "macbook charger wire exposed" to see many others with this problem).

This also happened to me several months ago and I was lucky enough that Apple replaced it free of charge but no such luck for my girlfriend. It's unreasonable to expect people to pay £65 for one year's use of a charger. Cheap netbook chargers don't have this problem.

This is not the way to make money off your cutovers!

I am having the same problems with my power adaptor that apparently everyone else is having in that it is failing after a few months. I don't have another adaptor and will have to rush out and try to find one on completing this review as it is down to 12% power with no way to get the power cord to function and recharge my computer. This is not the way to treat loyal Apple customers. I bought my first Apple IIE computer and put it together with every extra card that was available. I bought the first mac that was available. Now for my 30 years of loyalty I can look forward to a problem so big that it prevents me from using my computer. Come on Apple you see what people are saying here don't be greedy and cheap out on us. Replace these faulty cords and treat your customers properly. Many thanks.

2nd Notebook and 2nd Adapter Gone bad before 8 months

Purchased a 15" MacBook last year and the MagSafe adapter stopped functioning a little over 6 months later.

Took the MagSafe adapter into a Genius Bar (after making an appointment) and after spending time waiting for the Genius Bar to make a decision, was given a replacement. (Thank you!)

Purchased an 11" MacBook Air earlier this year and about 8 months later, the MagSafe adapter has stopped functioning as well.

Not looking forward to 1) spending more time to make an appointment with Genius Bar, 2) travel to/from the Genius Bar and 3) spend time to have someone at the Genius Bar look into what is clearly a faulty product.

May the Apple gods make this adapter replacement as smooth as possible. Fingers crossed...
