    Cable keeps breaking

For all the great designs apple have come with this one lets them down. Now on my third adaptor in 3 years. In 5 years my dell power adapter never failed once. And with all the known problems Apple still insist on selling all the parts together. I can see why they have completely lost their environmental ratings. Soon to lose a customer too.

    Fire Hazard!

    FIX THIS APPLE!

Today my 85W adapter started burning. Had I not been sitting right there, this could have been a devastating house fire.

Make the magsafe end replaceable, and start making all your charging cords with a decent gauge wire that withstands normal wear and tear. I'm about to start buying something besides Apple - phones, laptops, everything.

    Defective Design, Poor Quality? BOO!

I purchased a 15 inch Mac Pro laptop with the knowledge that Apple hardware is superior to most PCs. I have owned this less than a year and am having to replace the power supply due to a frayed power connector cord. This needs a redesign! I am going to have to purchase a backup just to insure reliability when I travel on the road and do not have access to an Apple store.

Key take away: I suggest that owners of laptops that use this power supply purchase a backup to ensure reliability. It is not a question of if this power cord will fail, it is a matter of when!

    BAD design! Poor quality component!

I would give this a rating of ZERO if I had the option!

Same cable breakage TWICE. On my third adapter now

Shelled out £65 to replace my charger last year after the cable splayed by the power block... and just had to replace again this evening for the SAME reason! Have owned the rMBP for two years and I'm on my third charger due to this unresolved design flaw.

    Fix it, Apple!

Fried just out of warranty (again)

This expensive "product" is just not deisgned correctly. As many have noted the cord at the brick is brittle - will tear especially if you use the two ears provided to loop the cord around. I have now this one that just has its warranty expired a month ago. I did nothing with my laptop, just browsing the web, no heavy-duty calculations were running - then I have noticed the laptop shows it's on battery and the charger lights are out on the connector.

I now took it apart and see that there is black soot / smut inside the brick - obivously some part(s) have fried inside from normal use. Great timing to have it happening out of warranty, you just have to admire this design really. Not recommended at all - if there are cheaper products to use instead of this $80 brick, get those it will fail soon anyway.

    Zero stars, for real

I've gone through three of these so far since I bought my Macbook 4 years ago. I'm not understanding WHY it is soooooo hard for Apple to develop an adapter that can last as long as the product that it is charging. Obviously the rubber sheath around the wires needs to be constructed of SOMETHING ELSE. Stop using the same old lame materials to keep producing the same old inferior chargers. It inevitably rips or tears and the wires underneath peel back from the connector. Every single time. Absolutely ridiculous for a company trying to be known for quality workmanship. That should certainly apply to the adapter cords and all other accessories, for that matter, as well.

    It would be a zero

As a user of apple laptops of more than ten years, I am constantly suffering from the brittleness of the joint of power adapter. Does it take so much to redesign a reliable adaptor. Even my Logitech Mouse connector remains working after more than five years of use. Listen to the complains, Apple!

MACBOOK PRO Charger broke after a year of use.

So this is my first Macbook pro since the days of the Performa, I made the switch back from windows after many years of being plagued with slow performance no matter how expensive a computer I bought. This computer is Awesome, however the power cord is an awful piece of engineering. I do not really take my macbook anywhere but around my house, not being stuffed in a bag, not bending the cords, nothing. Now I noticed the cord basically disintegrated where the cord meets the white adapter box. And it looks like the only thing that can be done is buy a new one. All my windows laptops, as slow as they were, the power adapters were indestructible and outlived every computer. I would highly suggest to Apple to redesign these adapters with either a "quick release" like that is on the plug side, so if the cord going to the computer breaks like mine did, I could pop it off, buy a new corn and not an entire power supply. Or, make these adapters with better rubber and plastic cords that are actually tested for wear and not lust looks.

    Why oh why????

I am now on my 5th power adapter and only have two MacBook Pros! I have had to replace 3 of them now and the last two that I am on are on their last leg. One is held together with electrical tape and the other only works when it is bent in a certain direction and you hold pressure on it. One of my computers is 3 yrs old and the other is 4. If I replace these two power blocks that will make us on numbers 6 and 7! We absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE our computers and would not buy anything else but having to spend $90 every six months to a year on something that should be lasting the life of the computer is absolutely ridiculous. Apple people, please fix this! Look at the reviews on this power adapter. There is no reason why you should have an average 1 star rating on this or ANY of your products. I truly believe in your products and think that you offer the best in the industry on everything you manufacture. Our entire house is nothing but Apple and I hate that there's this dark cloud surrounding our computers.

It works, Its expensive and It could be better!

The part of the MagSafe cable where it connects to the Macbook is poor, the cable outer casing eventually wears out leaving exposed wires. This part of cable should have been made of a stronger material, or designed so that this part can be easily changed like you can with the Plugged section of cable on the adapter. £65 to buy a new adapter each time is too much, when you could have designed this to have the option of just replacing the part of the cable that is damaged at a cheaper cost to the consumer and also being more environmentally friendly as well.

    Just 18 months and dead

I generally consider Apple products reliable and robust. This power supply is rubbish. It's not hot (it's a cold winters day). Loud bang, big yellow flash. £65 down the drain. Days work lost waiting for new power supply.

My 8 year old Dell laptop is still on it's first power supply. In fact, I've never known a power supply fail before on anything.

    Embarrassingly bad apple product...

Why has this issue not been addressed? I've been through two of these chargers already, and my girlfriend's has also stopped working. The cable appears to have melted at the end! Of course things are prone to wear and tear but come on!? Please — please — just sort it out Apple!

Mac book pro power supply and charging cord.

With all the time and money & effort Apple invest in upgrading their products to make sure We have the very best product available. A person would think Apple would take 2 or 3 hours out of their day to design a better charging cord.
    How hard could it be?
Apple take a look at your iPad charging set up! Am I missing something? Why couldn't you design it so all we would need to buy is a USB cord with the magnetic connecting end.
A long time apple user of all product for several years. Charging cords are an issue that needs to be addressed

    My 3rd cable!

Probably the worst cable design in history. Everytime the cable breaks after a while. The perfect travel companion, I don't think so. It can die on me while traveling...

    Fraying cord caught FIRE

Yesterday my power cord was just fine. Today my 10 year old daughter thought she smelled smoke and noticed tiny flames coming out of the cord that was sitting right next to her. If not for her keen eye, I don't know what would have happened.

It is incredibly disappointing to me that Apple has failed to make changes to this dangerous adapter. Worse, I am stuck with purchasing a new one for $80.

MagSafe went defunct after 6 1/2 months.

For my 2007 MBP, I had 3 MagSafe Adapters. The first broke after several years, the second after 2 years, and the third after 6.5 months. What to think of an engineering company who can't construct a power adapter despite thousands of complaints....

Very Poor Quality for Way Too Much $$$

Have gone through two of these things, both badly fraying at the point where the thin section of the cord meets the "MagSafe" block. Connectivity is not always successful, as sometimes the indicator light doesn't accurately display and/or the computer won't even recognize when it's plugged in. Both chargers have seen reasonable usage, but it's clear that the materials used to produce them are woefully flimsy. Then they have the nerve to ask for almost $80 for an item not even worth $20. Apple should have recalled this junk a long time ago.

    Dangerous

I have had my charger for just over 3 years and a few weeks ago it set on fire! I am disgusted that Apple wanted to charge me to repair it and charge even more than the cost of a new one....disgusted at the quality of the charger and the terrible customer service for clearly a faulty product

    DISAPPOINTING...HUGE ONE...

Disappointing with the magsafe power adapter that is the most cheapest (quality) but most expensive pc charger...
