    Cord frays

I'd rate this 0 if I could. The cord frays and breaks open. Reading these reviews, I'm one of many with this problem. I guess Steve Jobs did not believe in strain reliefs. Or in user replaceable cords. Or maybe he believed in the recurring revenue from users like me who need to replace their power supplies.

    Very bad

We had to change 3 power supplies in 2 years. Worst product i've bought from Apple. Please fix the issues with this.

    A Lesson in Planned Obsolescence

This power cord is poorly designed and poorly manufactured. This morning, my fourth cord (in four years) decided to give up the proverbial ghost. The MagSafe connection frays, the insulation has melted...I'm surprised this isn't a fire hazard. Shame on you, Apple. The power cord issue alone is enough for me to reconsider purchasing another MacBook. This is your Achilles Heel, Apple. FIX IT.

    Seriously Apple?

Why is it that I have Dell laptop adapters that have literally outlasted the computers they came with, but I have to replace this $80 hunk of junk. about once a year? My current adapter is not only frayed, but the wires are literally burning and turning brown, and whatever insulator Apple has opted to use on pretty much all of its cables is garbage. I can't think of a single Apple device I own that doesn't have a frayed cable, yet literally every other tech company on Earth seems to have overcome this issue. How hard is it to make a wire that doesn't fray and fall apart? It is just ridiculous that such an otherwise strong product can have such an obvious Achilles heel.

    Not AGAIN!?

I am now looking at buying my 3rd charging cable! The first cable frayed (in the exact place many people here have mentioned) and my second one (brought only 8 weeks ago) just made a flash and gave off a burning electronic smell (from the adaptor box) and is now not charging my Macbook Pro.

Really not looking forward to having to buy a new one so soon! I was advised before moving from New Zealand to the UK that it would be fine to use and voltage would not be an issue etc.. :/

The cable cost $120 (NZD) and here in the UK it's about the same £65

    Disappointed.

3 power cords in 3 years

I've been through three of these power cords in as many years. They fail just a few months after the 1 year warranty ends. Apple really needs to address this issue.

    Burnt out

Mine has just burnt out too, leaving a black burn mark and a blown fuse - i'm nervous about buying another as it's obviously a hazard.

I wish I could rate it lower... POS!!

After slightly over a year of use, my power adaptor has stopped working. No reason. There are no frayed wires, nothing. It just doesn't charge the computer. There are no replacement plans for the cord, and an apple representative told me to dole out another $80 on a replacement cord. Terrible customer service, terrible product. I was really happy with my mac, but I'm not thinking its time to go to a more reliable company will less expensive parts or better customer service.

    Worst charging cord ever

This is my second charger. My first one was replaced since it frayed only a few months after I purchased it, I had to beg for someone to replace it without having to pay $80 for it. Now this one has frayed too. I don't mean it got weak and bent, it's a full on train wreck on the laptop end of the charger. I don't take the computer or charger anywhere outside the house so it's not because of the cord getting bent, it stays on my desk, or on my lap. The cord is just a piece of garbage. ALL THE OTHER LAPTOP BRANDS HAVE FIGURE THIS OUT WHY CANT APPLE DO IT!? I'm debating giving up on Mac after this one is retired, the accessories are not worth the price you pay for them.

    Great Idea, Bad Quality

Great designed product, besides the fact that your cord will fray and fall to bits, its inevitable. So when buying your macbook, just remember that every 12-18 months, you will be up for another $99 to replace your power cord because apple is too lousy to engineer a cord that will actually last like every other company in the world.

    Lame

Love Apple - but this product is horrible.

This product needs an immediate revamp.

I've electrical taped my magsafe power adapter several times but it keeps fraying.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    Don't buy this garbage.

The quality of this adapter is completely unacceptable. The most recent one I purchased--just over six months ago (March 24th)--has gone to be with Steve Jobs. The previous one lasted roughly 9 months, and the one before was closer to a year. I'm sick of paying $80 for a piece of unreliable made-in-china garbage that Apple refuses to cover under warranty. It used to be that if you bought into Apple, you were paying a premium price for an above average product. Now it seems you pay extra for the legacy of a dead man with a dream. Get your (expletive) together Apple!

    Power Adapter

The power adapter is not designed for some one daily wrapping up the cable for travel. Twice the cable has frayed in the same place by the Power-brick and eventually does not work. As it cost £65 a time it needs to be made more robust.

    horrible product

i've taken the most extreme care possible of my charger. I was able to get over 3 years out of it that way! that seems far better than most. it was to no avail though. it still broke at the same stress point as all of the others out there. Its very irritating as the brick is fine and the magsafe adapter is fine. Just the point at which the cable enters the brick.... i had to buy a new one. i will take this on all apart and try to service it. i dont think its going to work out to well....

    Unacceptable

I, and many others I know, have purchased this charger several times. It simply doesn't work after too short of a time. Suspiciously it stops working not too long after the 1 year warranty. Hmm. I used to love apple and its products but after several hardware issues with several of my computers and of course my ongoing issue with the charger, I cannot say I will remain an apple faithful. Step up your game apple because no company is too big to fail.

Another $86 dollars down the toilet

Please fix your design. It's not the consumers' fault for "storing it incorrectly."

I'm going to try electrical tape this time and see if the cable holds out longer than a few months.

    Great product!

I have never had any problems with the cables fraying on this, or my previous adapter (for my 2007 MBP). They've worked great for me, with no problems whatsoever. I couldn't be happier with it/them!

    Zero stars

I have gone through 3 of these power cords (and now onto 4 ) since I got my computer in 2009. What a bad design. Seriously Apple, can't you fix the stupid power cord? I don't even travel with my computer, just work at home.

    IDIOTIC !!!

I wasn't sure why so much bruaaaba about this adapter until I tried it...

Can someone at Apple explain to me why they would change a working (not so well) but working adapter (rectangular shaped) for a alu. tube that you have to plug a certain way if you don't want to loose a port which is very dumb.

Also it unplug very easily in fact because it naturally bend the cord, this is the most stupid (and stupid is a huge understatement) modification I saw so far from Apple.

Keep the square shape and make it aluminium, get a better plastic for cable as well.

Steve Jobs would probably have fired the engineer who did that and we would have never seen such a plug out of the bench to start with.
Jobs liked to work only with A people.

Who the @ did design this at Apple??????
And what was his goal here????

    T. Cook is to blame he his the boss after all -
