    Could do better...find the way.

Third time lucky says it all... after 3 years, I'm on my third Macbook Pro charger - at 80 dollars / euro a pop, I've just about had enough! The bloc is so heavy that the same thing breaks each time - the wire connection to the bloc itself. Directly plugging the bloc to the socket makes for too much wear and tear. There has to be a better way - Apple, please find it & soon! There is no phrase, '4th time lucky'...

    Works Perfect and looks Stunning

Works perfectly with older and new MacBooks and Pro. Looks stunning and does the job. Don't buy imitations and go for the full wack Apple original! Worth every penny

Be ready to replace this within a year.

Have had to replace this twice already -- noteworthy that I do take quite good care of it (I always wrap it well when transporting it), and I otherwise leave it completely still. Just stopped working out of the blue, mid-charge, last night.

    Pretty good

This charger offers the innovative solution of magnetism, effectively solving the issue of equipment damage when you trip over the wire. Although this has not happened to me, I am confident that it will work during a real emergency. One point of criticism I would like to make, is that the cable has a certain quote-unquote "memory", that causes the cable, after being wrapped around the charger's little retractable tabs, to stay curled up in a not-so-intuitive-or-useful way. Other than that, another great Apple product!

    AWFUL wires

The new right angle style adapters SUUUUUUUUCK. The wires are so springy that they tangle with no effort at all, just like the earbuds with the iPhone 4. I want the old style back with softer wires.

    terrible, worst in history

this charger is terrible. the cord frays alot, always right under where the little plastic piece is. im currently buying my 3rd one because of wire frays and this one just straight up broke. apple really needs to do something about there over priced, cheap made chargers

    Great Charger!

Better than any of the other power cables the other OEM's use hands down! I've had mine since 2008 and as-long as you don't abuse it, it will last the life of your mac.

Most of the reviews read as though they were written by the irresponsible, could care less about the equipment, never used any common sense staff I have to put up with at my workplace.
ANYTHING with wires which can be thinner than a fine thread requires some extra care in its use. NEVER let the cord bend at the attachment point, be it at the magnetic head, at the power adapter itself, or at any point where 2 different components meet. Use a bit of love and gentle handling. Having seen how students manhandle their computers and the accompanying bits and pieces which make them work, it is no wonder that your wires break and cease to function ( overheating excepted). Leave some slack in the cord when wrapping it around the charger, and make a protected place for it in your backpacks. If you think in dollar signs perhaps your equipment will last longer.
I've been using the same adapter which came with my MBP when I purchased it in 2007. No problems.

    I've had mind since 2008

With no problems AT ALL. I'm still using it on my 2011 Mac Book Pro.

    worst idea from apple

This adaptor has been nothing but trouble since I bought my macbook pro in august 2010. Since then I have had to replace it and now i must do the same. The problem is in the "magsafe" end. Now that it is in the more "streamlined" position it no longer disconnects from the computer when snagged, instead it damages the connection inside the adaptor making the entire thing useless. Simply moving my mac around the desk has been enough to damage the connection twice. The old design worked fine

Important things like this should be robust enough to simply move around on a desk!

in this case Form over Function = epic fail

Works about 50% of the time

Second one so far....soon to be on a 3rd. First one kept on shorting and powering down my laptop, and could have probably started a fire, so I was given another one as replacement. This one charges 50% of the time, the other 50% of the time it doesn't charge my battery, but does connect, which is annoying. And it's too loose for the early 2009 17'' macbook pro's.

    Apple should be ashamed

On my 3rd power supply for a 2 year old MacBook Pro. Both of them were issues with the cable. Hate the new "slim" design of the adapter end that plugs into the computer. Puts a lot of stress on the cable where it enters the computer because of the angle. C'mon Apple. You are better than this--especially at $80 a pop!!

    Broke in 2 days

The original power adapter I had for my '08 Macbook Pro finally died after almost 3 years, so I go one of these new ones straight from a Mac Store. It was broken within 48 hours of possession. While charging, it overheated and melted the little bit of glue that holds the magnet in place. When I went to detach it, the magnet piece broke off and remained in the charging port. Through some DIY rigging I have been able to make it stay in one piece and still work. But this setup has been very temperamental and now I can't even get it to charge the battery, just keep it at its current charge. Clearly it needs replaced, but I think I am going to try to find one of the old ones. The only positive thing I have to say is that when this power adapter does work, it charges very quickly.

Poor quality, 2nd one is falling apart as we speak.

This has got to be the worst Power Adapter ever in the history of powercords. I never had a problem previously with PC Power Adapters in the past. This one keeps on breaking at the end points of the thin portion of the cord. I'm on my 2nd one now and I've been extra careful with it as to not have any portion of the cord break, but it is right now. (Currently being held by duck tape.)

    Works great

Works great on my old 2006 15" MacBook Pro. I like it how it now runs along the side of the laptop and hopefully will it will not fray like the original charger. $80+ for a replacement charger is very steep considering you can't use it on anything else other than the laptop itself. Should be more priced around $40-$50, so one star off for it being a bit too expensive to replace. Other than that, very nice and works like a charm.

    Short term quality

While at first I thought how cool this power cord was and the fact that you can extend it or shorten with the two cords, lost all cool points when it started malfunctioning in less than a year. It stopped working all together, for both cords, so now I need to see if it is covered by my extended warranty.

2 months in and suddenly powerless!

My macbook pro is outstanding. I haved had my machine only 2 months and the power supply has failed entirely and completely! The magnetic connection is really a great idea but at the same time my windows laptops never had issues with the power chords. Good design or pure aesthetics hard to say. Probably somewhere in between but it is very un Apple to bundle such a week product with the caddilac of their product lineup. I have a genius appointment so we'll see. If I have to buy another one I will be back here to tell you all about it. Have to review this product from my droid cause no computer!

    Blessings Macintosh world

I've had my computer for 2 year's and am on my fifth one of these. I would say don't buy one, but there is NO OTHER OPTIONS. For the amount of money i have spent on power cords alone I could have a boss PC.

Someone was asleep at the wheel

My power adapter quit for the 2 yr old MacBook Pro so I ordered a new one. When this thing came I couldn't believe it, I thought I ordered the wrong one. The new design placing the MagSafe connector parallel to the cord is the most backward step I have seen from Apple (except maybe for FW800!). This connector will interfere with the FW800 connection and the Ethernet connection when placed toward the front of the computer, and will prevent you from placing the computer tight up against a wall or other tight location in the opposite direction since the cord needs room to stick out the back. What was wrong with the old design? Sometimes you get it right the first time. Whats the point of the review since we are now stuck with this design, since there are no other alternatives.

    Worse than previous magnetic connector

1Q 2009 17" MBP. My cat chewed the magnetic connector of my mbp (!), so had to buy a new power adapter. What a disappointment ! This one stretches the cord next to the magnetic connector much more than the previous one simply because it's not vertical to the mbp body.
