    Dangerous and poor quality.

I have gone through four chargers in my three years of having my laptop. 320$ Worth of chargers with a laptop i have had for only three years. That is absolutely ridiculous. ALSO, I had my laptop charging on my bed overnight with the block next to me, woke up with a blistered burn on my arm. Maybe that was my fault but these chargers get DANGEROUSLY hot and shouldnt be. Apple needs to step up their game and focus on the more important things rather then making iphone X's. I mean, how hard would it be to make a better quality charger...?

About to buy my fourth charger in 5 years of owning this computer. No matter how careful I am with this charger it falls apart. And it's ridiculously expensive.

As I write this, I'm on the phone with Apple, telling them that this is the second time my power adapter has given up on me. I've already changed it once in January due to the same reason, now it's December and it died again. It's not a fuse issue, the technicians at this authorised service centre assures me, so I'm assuring you that the build quality for this is terrible. I do not overcharge my MBP, always plugging it in and out between 20% and 80% to prolong battery life. All I can say is go find another 3rd party adapter of better quality to save you this headache.

    A shameful product

Having to replace this charger was enough of a surprise, but to discover that it's this expensive? Good grief.

    This is awful

I already bought three of these, and they keep breaking apart. This is the worst item I ever used from Apple and definitely the worst charger I ever used in any laptop.

    Insulation is defective

I have to order new Power Adapters ever couple of years even though I very rarely actually carry my laptop anywhere. It spends 99% of it's life on my desk, but the insulation on the magsafe cord breaks down, cracks, and begins peeling away from the shielded cable inside. Once this peeling starts it doesn't stop. Apparently any "curve" in the cord (i.e. draped off a table top) is too much of a strain for this defective product. Shame on Apple for knowingly selling defective junk like this.

Apple products are legendary. Apple charging products? Legendary for entirely opposite reasons. They are despicably BRITTLE cords that last months, not years. Everything else's OK, but you're only as good as your weakest link and that cord is more brittle and delicate than an eggshell.

    Poor quality cord!

Even with a lot of care, after about a year of use, the cable is damaged where it is attached to the MagSafe connector.
This doesn't surprise me anymore, nowadays Apple is all about "Looks" and not quality. The problem with this charger is the cable/connector attachment area, which is horribly engineered, just to be easily broken. This same problem exist in all cords of this kind, i.e. iPhone charger cords too. Unfortunately, third party sellers sell low quality products too –same faulty design copied– and I don't trust using their products either, so lack of competition doesn't give Apple incentive to fix their products.

    Does not last!

I have to get a new computer charger every year! I'm not sure why these don't last long, but I always have an issue where the charger just stops working all of a sudden/doesn't connect correctly, or there is an issue with the cord that makes it stop working. Apple needs to really make these better for the prices that they're charging.

Stop bashing power adapter and look at your user habits

Seriously, people stop bashing this cord. Need to consider how much abuse you put them through as well! Stop blaming the charger and look into your habits of using them. Do you use a serge protector in your house and when you go to your coffee shops, etc. Do you take care of them during transport?

    Dangerous product

Just over 2 years old and the cable has deteriorated to expose bare wires. I assumed this to be a freak event as i am very careful with the cable to about damage and it is always used at home and on a desk. Disappointed to see that most people seem to experience problems with this product which suggests poor design and manufacturing quality. Time for a solution and recall on defective products which risk fire in home and workplace.

Terrible Cord that Wont Last More than a few Months!

Seriously!?!? Apple can not come up with a charging cord that will actually last more than a few months? I swear they could but choose not to for the scam of forcing people to constantly buy a new charger. What a bunch of scam artists. I am now looking at buying my 4th charger for almost $80.... This is high way robbery. Great computers but TERRIBLE chargers!!!!! I would give it 0 stars if I could.

    Tech cannot fix STUPID

I bet that people who complain for burning their power-brick do not use a decent power filter with "Clean Power" technology to illuminate power surges on their grid. Apple's original power brick outperforms by far any other knock-off that is out there on the market.

Disposable. Like a Bic razor that can charge your laptop, for a time.

Nothing has been more troubling to me than the declining quality of Apple's chargers and cables.

Our house is a museum of burned of frayed cables designed for charging both iPhone and the MacBook. The insulation on both is incredibly weak, and can easily begin to disintegrate after a year or so of use. I bought some (cheaper) Amazon Basics iPhone cables a few years ago and they are still good as new, with no signs of fraying at the ends.

That MagSafe is a brilliant concept, doesn't change the fact that every MagSafe computer we own has an unreliable connection to power, with ports discolored by burn marks, ...and we have enough failed chargers to fill a shoebox. All their cables are frayed. Not a single one is undamaged.

We do not live in a place with unregulated power, and we don't have anything like this happening to ThinkPads or other laptops used for work...or with the cables of other electronics – period.

Incredible how much Apple claims to care about the environment, while turning a blind eye to landfills that are overflowing with extremely low quality cables and chargers. These are high margin, low quality items Apple should be ashamed of putting their name to.

And yet, I am off to buy two more chargers. :-(

    Brilliant idea less brilliantly executed

This magnetic power plug is a brilliant find. It comes off easily but considering it leaves your laptop on your lap, table or desk instead of coming off with it is well worth that minor inconvenience. I use my Macbook every single day, using that power cord and taking it with me to and from work, and after two years it came apart. Probably from the twisting, pulling and tripping over it.

Having said that, I do think the design or the sturdiness of it could be improved. The charger for my old Macbook from 2006 lasted eight years before it broke down. That was the old one that connected at a 90 degree angle, all the replacement ones with the L-shape broke down within a year, so in my opinion that's a change for the better.

Now they should make one that lasts eight years again, or sell a heavy-wear variant at a slightly higher price (or sell the other one for a lower price rather...)
