    Terrible charger

Apple should fix this poorly designed low quality charger. It stopped working after a year.

    Junk

I’m now on my fifth one of these. They never last no matter how carefully you treat them. Absolute junk and a disgrace that Apple charges so much for something so shoddy.

    Stop using cheap cables...

After just 1 year of use the cable starts to disintegrate... while the good quality charger is still actually fine. Please don't make use buy cheap Chinese chargers for 30€. Their cable is better, but the chargers are dangerously melting from inside-out. So use quality cables when making these chargers Apple!!!

    Don't buy a replacement charger

Every charger I've bought (or replaced) has not lasted long. The thin cord that connects to the Mac falls apart within a year. The coating disintegrates. However, for $12 you can buy replacement cords from other vendors. (Stop rewarding Apple until they fix this problem!) It will take a little effort to replace the cord, but you've just saved $70.
Apple - why won't you make the charger a quality product?

This cable is beyond terrible. Apple should be giving out free cables if they aren't prepared to redesign their cord. Broke in a year.
Every apple cord I have had for a macbook has frayed.

    Hopeless

Had my MacBook Pro since mid 2014. Had to buy 4 chargers in that period. £79.00 each, is a shocking waste of money. Apple live and breathe off brand loyalty and the impression that they sell only "quality" products. Sadly in this case, I feel VERY let down

    Terrible Quality & Flawed Design

The wire is so flimsy it ends up bending and breaking with use no matter how careful you try to be. The magnet becomes weak with use and constantly falls off. In addition to these serious flaws, the adapter gets too hot! APPLE DESIGNERS, WOULD YOU PLEASE LISTEN? Your customers want a sturdy adapter that works well and lasts. This adapter is not even aesthetically pleasing. The wire is far too thin for its length and is out of proportion to the cable on the other end of the adapter. It just looks silly and badly designed.

    Great charger...

Having spent 1800, thought the charger would last more than a year and a bit. Seems I expected too much.

    Poor quality for the price

Would give it 0 starts if I could. I understand that If I use my charger almost ever day for two years then it's going to get worn out. But when the price of the charger is so high (£79) I expect it to last a lifetime. I would understand paying £20 for a charger of this build quality. The transformer gets alarmingly hot and the metal plug that attaches to the laptop gets so hot that it's impossible to keep my finger on. The cable is weak and has split in multiple places. The plastic insulation is not fixed to the cable inside enough so bunches up and means that the clip on the wire gets stuck.

    Another unsatisfied customer

With the beauty and elegance of nearly all Apple products, why include such a flimsy power adapter? As with every other 1 star review, I'm another unsatisfied customer who has purchased at least one replacement power supply for each of my macbooks through the years. The point of connection between cable and the white plastic box is just plain weak, but we are a captive audience who can't write grumpy reviews without power. So, buy this product because you have no choice... welcome to the land of the bitter buyers!

One has a frayed cable, other one stopped working.

Somehow the one with a frayed cable has kept working since I first got it, but now one that I've owned for a year and 4 months just stopped working abruptly. I wish Apple would focus a little less on looks and a little more on durability.

    Falls Apart

After reading several reviews I've realized that my charger has actually lasted an exceptionally long time by comparison, but four years in and my cable quickly began to deteriorate/fray around the magnet. Once it started the whole thing fell to pieces in a matter of maybe a month or two. Considering I used my previous macbook for seven years and never had a problem with the charger ever, I'm disappointed to see that Apple hasn't responded to the years of customers complaints over this particular charger model. Eighty dollars is a ludicrous sum of money for a product that should maaaaybe be replaced once in a lifetime, though hopefully never. The fact that Apple hasn't addressed this issue is extremely disappointing.

Replacing the power adaptor every 18 months is not acceptable

When I looked at the reviews and there were 7 positive and 165 negative that tells the story. It seems completely unacceptable that this power supply should only last 1-2 years for a computer that I hope will last several times that. I guess Apple doesn't care about the reviews as they are receiving £79 a time for a replacement power adaptor. The power adaptor for my previous generation Mac was still ok after 4+ years when the laptop died so Apple can make a decent P/S.

Two power supplies broken in 16 months

Not good at all. I bought a £2000 MacBook pro in March 2016. The first magsafe2 85w power supply made a definite pop sound in October 2016. Apple replaced the power supply with a new one. The new one went pop in July 2017, but Apple would not replace it because the MacBook pro was out of warranty. A replacement cost me £80. The advice from Apple support was to avoid using the power supply with a four way power strip or for long periods.

    Not fit for purpose

Just to add another voice to the tale of woes about the magsafe 2 chargers and the usual failed/frayed cable at the charger end. The product is not fit for purpose and at the very least Apple should offer a free replacement or repair service, not be charging 80quid for the pleasure of buying the same piece of junk. I do not understand how they can remain in complete denial about this failure mode. Shame on you Apple for releasing this garbage and then failing to do anything to acknowledge customer complaints.

    Terrible!

First off...This charge is just terrible! It disconnects constantly, don't get me wrong the magnet is a great idea.. However, it just disconnects way to easy. The slightest movement will make the fall off. Talk about annoying. Second... The cord is so thin that it kinks so easily and destroys the cord. I was charging mine today and it randomly stopped charging. Turns out the cord got too destroyed from all the kinks in it and it broke. Third... THE PRICE IS OUTRAGEOUS! WHY $80 FOR A CHARGER!!!??? Especially one that doesn't last or even works properly!!??

    Lamentable quality

I have a 2015 MacBook Pro - top of the range laptop. The cabling to the Magsafe connector is fraying and supported with 'gaffa' tape.

I have a 2007 MacBook Pro (replaced by the one above) whose Magsafe wiring is still pristine.

The computer is utterly outstanding, the power supply cabling is reprehensible. Apple, what has happened to your quality control - you should be thoroughly ashamed of yourselves.

The general quality of Apple cables is also poor, with insulation breaking down far too quickly - what is going on?

£2000+ for quality such as this?

Awful charger, as bad as the first model, don't buy a Macbook.

Terrible charger, rubber perished next to the magnetic connector in just over a year, apple are refusing to design a better charger and would rather keep the charger money flowing in along with sticking with their aesthetics.

2nd time buying a replacement charger. Total rip off

These chargers get too hot to quickly. Also they are not durable. Mine is so frayed, I'm embarrassed to use it in public. They are NOT built to last and now I have to by a 3rd one. :-(

    utterly terrible!

Can't believe apple still haven't redesigned these. The fact that 90% of the reviews for this product are 1 star should be enough for apple to pay heed. They always break in exactly the same way with the joint next to the computer socket becoming frayed, even with light use and when well looked after. Having to pay £79 for a replacement on a fairly regular basis due to poor design is unacceptable. Apple have access to some of the most talented designers and engineers in the world... surely they can do better than this.

Here's a suggestion. As the power brick is the expensive component simply change the design so that the cable leading from the power brick to the computer is the interchangeable cable/extension. presto! The part that always breaks is now detachable and can be cheaply replaced without having to invest in a whole new power brick. surely this is obvious!?
