    Apple USB SuperDrive

This device works great for a while, but for some unknown reason be it my computer or the software being used, this device works great with DVD Player when playing movies but does not work when importing CDs with iTunes. So overall I say a solid 3.5 stars.

Not recognized by MacBook Pro anymore

I don't use this very often. Tried to use it today. MacBook Pro (only 3yrs old) won't even recognize it anymore. Received this as a gift when I got the MacBook Pro since the disc reader/writer is no longer integrated into the laptop. Can't believe this!

    Nothing 'super' about it...

I bought the superdrive as an essential piece of kit to accompany my Macbook pro (2015 model) as it did not have a built-in drive. The main reason I decided to pay the premium, the best part of £80, was the fact it was an Apple product - a brand I was familiar with and so far had not let me down. Unfortunately this drive is very temperamental, sometimes I have to load a CD into the drive multiple times before it works at all. Sometimes it takes 2 hours to import a single CD and even this is not done correctly as only 30 seconds of the CD gets imported.

Apple has moved away from built-in drives and my Macbook pro is amazing. However as apple moves away from USB slots ect., and we have to buy these add ons I expect them to at least work. My confidence in the brand and the products has been severely knocked and its hard to to feel cheated out of so much money.

I was lured in by the brand and the attractive design but thats all this have to offer, my advice would be to buy a cheaper drive that actually works and spend the rest of the money saved on more CD's!

    Must do better !

The drive works well but there are a number of shortcomings :
1- Slot loading means you can't use a minidisc.
2- No reading of Blu-ray Discs, let alone writing them !

I think it's about time somebody (preferably Apple) made an external, matching, tray-loading Blu-ray player/writer WITH A THUNDERBOLD CONNECTION !

    Design Issue

I bought mine today... worked first time, but I was immediately 'struck' by the inbuilt USB cable?... I've had Apple products for a while, and one thing they have a VERY BAD reputation for, is their atrocious cable$... So having a 'fixed' USB cable at the back, doesn't fill me with confidence for the future.. I fear it will be the first thing to go... and once it does?.... No more super drive?....

Completely flabbergasted by such a design floor....

And of course, no indication of that on the box! It wasn't like I could have found this fact out 'easily' before the purchase?... Instead of being able to 'chuck' this thing in my bag, I will now need to be constantly thinking, "once that USB cable goes, that's it!! You're screwed"..... "that will be another 129 bucks please!!".... AUD $.... "please come again...".

Died silently while not being used ... RIP

Bought this back in 2013. Now just connected it to my iMac because I needed it again after a long time and ... It stopped working. It died silently while resting in it's box for 2 years . Perhaps it was designed like this to make us buy a new one ???

    It stopped working

I have purchased one back in 2010, it stopped working! Tried using it with my Mac book pro and Mac air and it no longer works. I also barely used it.

    Very Disappointed

I have only had this product for about ten months. It has spent the last eight unused, I have probably used it less than 20 times in total and it has always been glitchy. Now it has a documentary that I borrowed from a professor stuck in it, computer will not recognize disk drive at all so I do not have the option to eject although the disk drive recognizes that it is plugged into the computer.
Long story short, this is an extremely glitchy product, no where near worth the $80- I would recommend buying a cheap knock off- you will not only save money but will most likely have a product that works MUCH better.

    Amazing Device

This device is the best purchase I have ever made. It is compact and easy to transport. It allows me to watch DVD's when I am on the road and traveling from place to place. It works great and I am glad that I purchased it.

    No usable user guide

I can't give more than 1 star at this point since I am not yet able to use the drive. Although the Product Information says a User Guide is included with the drive, the only instruction refers to how to eject a disc, nothing else. No info regarding setup, playing, burning, etc. is included and I don't see online instructions anywhere. That leaves contacting Support which, in my mind, should be the last resort.

Disappointed - Apple doesn't make products that break. This is the exception

    Unreliable

Gets hung up importing CDs into iTunes. Will import half the CD, then says it cannot read a track because a "disc cannot be found," then it ejects. Tried several times to import a music CD into a 2016 iMac. Finally gave up and tried my 10-year-old iMac with its built-in CD drive (you know, like all computers should have). The old iMac imported the CD flawlessly in one go. I used Dropbox to drag the files onto my 2016 iMac and add them to my iTunes library. The USB SuperDrive was useless. Did more to hinder me than help.

It worked for 18 months then stopped

I have a 2014 Mac Book Air and purchased this in December 2014. It was very slow but I used it to burn CDs as well as watch DVDs. Then last month, it simply stopped working. Really disappointed in Apple as I've had my iPod since 2008 and my iPhone 4S since July 2013 and both still work great.

    Super waste of money

Worked for a short time, then decided to stop reading all discs. Most people, including myself, buy these because they look nice, and fit in with the mac eco-system of aluminum unibody devices. Don't be fooled, this thing WILL die on you, and you will have wasted $80, don't take my word for it, just read the rest of the poor reviews this thing gets. Shame on you Apple, SHAME!

    Perfect Companion

The PERFECT partner for my Macbook Air and I. Thought I wouldn't really need one considering most things are available as downloads but spoke too soon, needed one in the end. The drive is so compact and portable I take it anywhere I take my laptop.

    Great until...

I loved my Apple USB SuperDrive that I got for my MacBookAir that didn't have one built in. My brother got one as well about 6 months after me. Both of ours have now stopped working while watching movies on brand new DVDs within a year of buying them both over the course of a couple of months. Totally disappointed. Both times they stopped working it was very sudden and unexpected.

    SuperDive

Works randomly, trashes many blank CD/DVD, not compatible with some Macs (old or not, doesn't matter).
