    Pretty good actually...

    • Written by Cloud A from Larkspur

This charger will last a fairly long time if you take care of it. I'm on my third year, and while it does have a fair bit of scratches on the plastic adapter part, it still works perfectly. If you care for your charger, it will work absolutely fine for a few years. In terms of the cable dirtying, that's easily fixed. No yellowing here.

My only issue is the cost to replace. I get that "Apple tax" applies here too but seriously, $80 for a charger is pretty criminal.

    Disappointed. Terrible!!!!

    • Written by Joseph R from Owings Mills

This is is now the second one to die on me. I've had my MacBook for just over a year and now it's not working. And before this I had to get another one. When I plug it the light doesn't come on. It's extremely disappointing when you have to keep replacing these. SUPER DISAPPOINTED!!!

    Yall are just wrong

    • Written by Ayush S from San Jose

Okay you guys keep saying that it breaks too fast and all that. I have had my charger for the past 4 years and Thr rubber just recently started coming apart 4 years is a long time. I actually took care of both my charger and laptop. If you just throw the thing around you are bound to ruin it and tear it. So it is your problem for not taking care of it. My only problem is the price to replace. 79 is too high for a charger. Thats my only problem.

    Short life span

    • Written by Sharon B from Pacific Palisades

I wish I could rate it zero, but it did work for 9 months, so I gave it a 1. This power cord that you MUST use to power your Macbook Pro deteriorated after 9 months. The rubber coating is very flimsy and broke open to expose the wires inside, and now it no longer charges my laptop. This cord sits in the dark behind my desk behind a wooden railing and has never been touched or moved after installation. The rubber coating is dried out and cracked. Apple has terrific laptops but horrific power cables. This is the fourth one I have had to purchase during the 6 years of owning my laptop. For a multi-billion dollar company, Apple should respect their loyal customers enough to provide quality accessories.

Covering ripped open AND it caught fire

    • Written by Ana S from London

It's a crime that they charge $100 to replace this adapter when it is clearly a manufacturing defect that necessitates the need for its replacement. I babied this cord, as I did with the last one, and yet they both stopped working. The sheer number of reviews that describe unexplained failures suggests that the defects are due either to negligence or design. Apple should explain why they are incapable or unwilling to make a durable product.

Love my Mac, hate the charger

    • Written by JD V from LONDON

Seriously disappointed in the quality of the charger and the weakness where the cable enters the charger. Even with taking particular care, it still failed.

What's the fuss about the wire?

    • Written by Ian D from Ottawa

I came to shop for 2nd adapter for my 2015 MBP cause I'm getting so lazy I want to get 1 in my bedroom and 2nd in my study room downstairs. 1.5 stat rating for this product and hundreds of negative comments are perplexing. I really like that little charger. Had no issues with it whatsoever. I do a lot of CPU-heavy computations (4-6 hours a day) and connect external USB HDD to the laptop - the charger gets noticeably warm but not as hot as some folks claim it does. After year of use cable did get slightly yellow next to the plug, but that's about it. No tears or any damage on the wire.
Built-in cable management is not very practical. Good idea in theory but not so much in practice. I just don't use it.
But detachable thick extension wire is great. Maybe if there were a version of that adapter with thicker and more durable cable some folks might be happier, but I'm OK with it as-is.

Whilst backing up my Macbook Pro I could smell burning and managed to trace it to my charger where the wires had frayed. I could see the burn marks starting on the outer white cable. Imagine if I hadn't caught this sooner, it would of no doubt resulted in fire potentially burning down my house and even more seriously killing my wife and child. To add insult to injury I now have to fork out an additional £79 to continue using my Macbook.

I've had my Mac for about 3 years and very disappointed to see how the power adapter over heats. It would get so hot that I was afraid it would catch on fire. No surprise to see the cord is finally ripping.

    rubber coating splits

A bit disturbing to have bare wires showing as the coating strips. If you use electrical tape, it splits again somewhere else. Not good.

My THIRD CHARGER purchase for my 2-year old MacBook Pro 13"

ONE charger, maybe, but THREE!!! I've never moved the thing but 12X, and my last MacBook Pro I NEVER replaced the charger.

    Planned obsolescence.

Your updates are always troublesome, especially Yosemite, ICLOUD horrible.....

Hey Apple - are you just getting sloppy or do you not make enough$$$ ??????

    Ridiculously poor quality

    • Written by Laura M from Brookfield

Is it deliberate that the cord I need to power my 5-star machine is such poor-quality junk? I work from home. The cord is at most moved from one room to another. It's never wound up, stepped on, or otherwise abused. Yet it is so frayed that I'm afraid to use electrical tape anymore. I have to sink another $80 into it. It's ridiculous that the power cord is so much more fragile than the laptop itself! Your iPhone charging cords are also terrible, but at least I can buy higher-quality versions for less money anywhere.

    Poor value

    • Written by Sarah M from Jacksonville

    2.5 years for this charger.

After about the first year yellowing got pretty bad on the rubber cord. At 2.5 years the rubber ripped open - as others have said apple has plummetted down the "aesthetic" hole and sacrificed practical engineering (stress-relief?? nonexistent) while maintaining sky-rocket prices.

For the so-called value of an $80 charger, I expect it to last me 5+ years with moderate use. I had to use my applecare in order to get a replacement. Ridiculous.

Practicality: 3* (since there are no safe alternatives/knock-offs)
    Aesthetic: arguably 'AF'
    Value: 2* (being generous, here)

Garbage charger - made to make you buy them over and over again

    • Written by Anna S from Holt

This product deteriorates rapidly. I've had to replace it multiple times in two years. I take very good care of it, always fold it properly (I've worked in tech - I know how to maintain cords), and rarely transport it. Regardless of how careful I am, it always yellows, flakes, and falls apart. I can extent the life by using electrical tape but each time I've inevitably had to tape the entire length of the cord shut which is a fire hazard. They make them this way to make us buy them again and again. this is likely my last apple product.

    not durable

    • Written by Afolabi L from Toronto

The wiring near the magnetic tip wears out too easily and ruptures, exposing the wires beneath it. Had to use electrical tape to keep the cord together.
Also, cord length should be increased by 25-50%, so that one can charge the laptop whilst being used within a comfortable distance from an outlet.

Apple WE ARE NOT STUPID. Fix this

    • Written by Andres D from HIDALGO

I love my Macbook Pro, my iPhone, my iPad and my daughter's iWatch but this expensive bad quality cables are making me hate
They now own a trillion dollars and they still want to sell us a new 70 dollar (or here in Europe 80 Euro) bad quality cable every year or couple of years?
They don't care about their pro customers. They think we are stupid.

Thankfully I can use more and more my iPad while away from the desk so with this horrible treatment I may have to start looking for a Windows PC as my next office computer.

    Breaks Easily too soon

    • Written by Katie Z from portland

I'm pretty devoted to everything Apple. Except the cords on any type of charging cable of a power adapter. After so many years of progress on the tech of Apple, the only thing I'm still waiting for to get better are the cords which break and split up and yellow after just a year or half of a year of use. They are very inconvenient. It's about time to fix this problem and create a material that does not break so easily because of such often use. It's very frustrating to have to replace these so often and at such a high cost. Such an expensive power adapter with such a breakable cord. The phones get better and so do the MacBooks but the power cords are still the same and are no good.
