    Worst charger ever

Have had to buy 2 chargers to replace the original. Not a good product.

    Such bad quality

I've had issues with Apple chargers in the past, but this one takes the cake. As someone who is very careful with their charger, I am disappointed in how quickly the coating of mine wore down.

    It's a rubbish product.

The laptop end of the cable split in a couple of places after about 2.5 years' use. Most other laptop power supplies live 5-10 years. I've used this power supply very carefully. It appears that the splits have occurred at the point I've most often used the integrated plastic clip to keep the cable tidy and out of harm's way. So the product has basically broken itself, exposing an electrical hazard, being used in the way it was intended.

No way am I paying almost 80 quid for something this poorly designed. I'd like to own my laptop, not rent it from Apple at the £40/year it'll cost to keep it powered. Sheesh, Apple.

Anyway, electrical tape has been keeping me safe for a couple of months, but I'm going to try Sugru next. I'll make sure I choose a nice visible colour so people who see me using my laptop in public know that some of Apple's stuff needs patching up with sticky tape after a bit of use.

I'll also say that the material the cable is made from must have been carefully designed in a lab to attract all nearby dirt. Takes about a month for it to look like a 30-year-old printer cable.

    Unsafe, expensive, and unreliable

This charger is not durable or practical. The fact that I have to reinsert it every time I make any sort of movement towards my laptop is absurd. In addition to its faulty design and cheap material, the outer lining of the chord wore away in such a short amount of time. I understand that things will not last forever but I have kept decent care of this charger and still with the slightest bend of the cord it ended up ripping the outer layer. Finally, the most concerning aspect of this review is that because the outer lining of the chord ripped, the internal wiring was exposed. When moving the charger a certain way these wires rubbed up on one another creating a spark. If I did not realize this spark and it was near flammable material then it would have started a fire and who knows what kind of damage it would have caused. Apple, the least you can do is develop a stronger and safer option. You have thought of virtually everything now make some changes to this.

    Terrible and expensive

I love my MacBook Pro, best laptop I've had, hands down. However, the chargers are just absolutely worthless. My laptop is only three years old and the original charger lasted about a year, maybe a year and a half, before it suddenly just stopped working. One day it was charging, and the next it did nothing. So I had to replace it. The one I have now is falling apart, there is bare wire in three or four different places. And it isn't like I just throw my charger around or don't take care of it. This wouldn't be so much of an issue if it weren't for the fact that replacing it is so expensive! Now I have to shell out $80 that I don't have to spare if I want to keep using my laptop. It's just ridiculous. No charger should cost this much.

    Dreadful design

I have has my MacBook Pro for 18 months and now have to fork out another £79 for a charger as this one needs to be held together to start charging.

    Apple do something.

    Absolute Garbage

I recently got my first ever Macbook. Overall, extremely disappointed in the whole Apple experience, but this charging cable has got to be the worst thing about it by far. Falls apart before 1 year of use (I work from home by the way, so the most travel with it is from my office to my bedroom or kitchen down the hall). The cheap, ugly white coating on the cord cracks and disintegrates. The "magsafe technology" is flimsy and ineffective. The plug falls out at any small bump, which makes it impossible to charge unless you're sitting at a desk. Before even one year of use, my port has also become uncleanable and unusable. The light comes on, but it will no longer charge. Yep, this is a product that needs to be replaced every single year - and only for $80.00!

Before switching from Windows laptops to Apple, I never had an issue with a charger in my life. They never stopped charging, they didn't physically fall apart...they were totally reliable. Not that hard to do. This POS is possibly the worst charger of all time. I'm so done with Apple.

    Falls out with slightest pressure!

The magnetic connection does not work very well at all -- it constantly falls out, even when I am just sitting and working on my computer. If I am using it on my lap, the pressure of typing can even make it fall out! Apple is sending me a new one to try, but I'm not too hopeful...

    Failed within one year

My laptop is just a few months past being 1 year old. I just finished paying the whole thing off, and now the charger has completely failed in the course of one week. I'm furious. The laptop sits on a desk at home all day - it's not like I've been putting it through any extreme abuse, unless simply unplugging and replugging the charger from the laptop occasionally is more than it can take. In the past, my other chargers lasted for years under tougher conditions. I hope my new Macbook Pro isn't as cheaply made as this thing is.

Cable failed just behind magnetic head

As with so many other reviewers here, this charger is the poorest quality Apple product that we have ever owned. Just made it through the warrentee period, before the cable started to disintegrate just behind the magnetic head. Shame on you Apple! As customers we pay premium prices for premium, robust products and this adapter should have been a recall replaced free of charge.

    Wore out very quickly

I had faith in Apple until all of my cords started falling apart: power cords, headphones, etc. I have treated my power adapter very kindly and yet it broke after 2 years. Not only is this a huge waste of money, but also highly environmental impactful. Get with it, Apple.

    Third one

Both my original cord and the one I bought a year ago did the same thing. The coating on the cord degraded, went sticky then started falling off the cord. Bare wire is not a good thing. I mended the first split with electrical tape but the 'crud' just kept getting worse.

    Overheating

I bought my macbook 13" With Retina on May 3Rd 2016. 2 weeks back my adapter started overheating excessively and melted the cover and I only charge the macbook atleast 2 or 3 times a week. This shouldn't occur when the adapter hardly even gets used. Within a period of 7 months I had to replace the charger itself.

    Terrible product

I've used Apple for more than 20 years. I've never had anything from Apple that caused more trouble. I'm on my second adapter and cord, and I need another one because the wires inside the cord are now exposed. I would prefer not to get shocked or have the house burn down because of this. It now gets pretty hot. Replacing it is not easy. $79 is a lot of money for me to have to spend on something that is now being replaced for the third time.

    Such a bad design

Why would you have the charger connection sticking out at over a cm from the MacBook where it can easily takes knocks and weaken. The MagSafe1 wasn't perfect but I never had the same splitting I've had on the MagSafe2. Today the lead finally split as I connected it and it sparked and **** did that hurt!!!
I'm now going to have to spend £79 on a replacement because someone thought this was a good design, I'm assuming they get a decent cut for every replacement lead developed.
And surely I could just replace the section that doesn't work. It comes in two parts, the plug end is fine, couldn't we produce a little less waste by not having to replace the whole thing?!
Does Apple have some sort of recycling programme for the needless waste this poor design is creating?!

Please redesign this lead so that it not only reduces the risk of the MacBook crashing to the floor but also the lead doesn't deteriorate faster than the life of the product!

Second replacement (now costing £79). Simply not fit for purpose!

As a massive Apple fan for over 25 years I simply do not understand why nothing has been done to address this design fault.

Regardless of how careful one is in using and storing the charger the thin cable is not fit for purpose and fractures, typically at about 14 to 15 months which surely cannot be the intended design life for the product.

Really hope that Apple will rethink this poor design as it is a unnecessary irritant for what is otherwise an excellent product range. Please, go on.

Meanwhile many people are resorting to using Sugru as a design modification, but no doubt that would invalidate your warranty!

    Reliable and Durable

Since switching to a MacBook Pro from another product, I've been enjoying how well made the Apple equipment is, and how well it functions. This Power Adapter is no exception. I'm still using the original one almost 2 years in. I've traveled with it often in the US and abroad, and it's always worked for me; I've never experienced damage to my computer from the various sources of electricity, however dubious they may have been. The Power Adapter is showing a little cosmetic wear and tear since I wrap it up for transport once (or more) every day, and I've run over it with my office chair multiple times--something I wouldn't recommend. My MagSafe 2 is still going strong, but I just ordered a second one just to preserve my original investment and make my life a little easier. I use the original one in place at my office, and I use the new one at home and while traveling.

    Another Charger

I bought my MacBook Pro (Retina, 13-inch, Early 2013) on September 2013, the original charger lasted exactly 1 year, the second one lasted 2 and a half year and now I'm buying the third one.

Can I give this adapter 0 star ?

please change the product name to Garbage Adapter to match its quality.
The rubber coating next to the mag connector fell off less than 1 year with moderate use.
My old 2009 MBP's power adapter doesn't have the same issue after so many years of usage.
Is it too hard for Apple to "maintain" old quality standard.
