    Flimsy, Breaks Easily, Unreliable

These typically break within 6 months, but usually more like 3 months. Probably the worst thing apple has ever made.

I wish 0 stars was an option

I have used many apple products throughout my life and enjoy using them but Apple desperately needs to redesign these chargers. It is infuriating that I have already gone through AT LEAST five cables in the past 3 months as they have ALL stopped working unexpectedly. I am not happy with the quality and longevity of these chargers and am hoping that apple will improve them when they release new iphione

Premium price for a product not even worthy of a star.

Way below the standard I expect for a premium priced product from a company who used to trade on its build quality. Finally giving up on Apple's own brand cables after many iPad to Mac Book pro connection issues traced to the cables with no obvious external damage to the connectors.

Anyone who says they're great just got theirs!

C'mon, people: anyone rating this five stars or offering "simple" handling solutions to preserve their cord are super annoying fanboys! It is very obvious by now it's a weak design which hinders users from easily using their property. My iPhone 3gs had ONE cord in almost three years. In almost 3 years with 5s I go through a cord every couple months. Official or not, they wear out at the exposed contacts. Never had frayed wires. I'm sure it's cost apple sales but they stick with it. For this alone i cannot own another iPhone. I'm constantly dealing with an uncharged phone.

    Poor quality!

I bought 2 chargers, one for my iPhone (2m) & one for my son's iPad (1m). Both now have a shortage 3 months later. Terrible quality!

Broken on first use. Only works when the cable is at a certain angle which may have been acceptable should I have had the charger for ages, however was like this straight from the box. Awful.

My cord almost started a fire in our car

The cord was plugged in to a Belkin 2-usb adapter but had no iphone attached. The end was on the floor of the car, touching the carpet, and it began melting/smoldering. Had never happened before so I'm not sure what trigged this - other than the obvious, it's electricity.

Best course of action: Don't leave these cords plugged in when you're not charging a device. It's a little bit of extra activity to plug them in every time you use them. But doing so will reduce the risk of fire quite a bit.

I can't find anything on the Apple site at the moment regarding safety instructions. But even if this hazard is listed in their legalese or in the instructions, people really need to be more aware of the risk. ***Everyone I know leaves these cords plugged in when they are not in use.***

It just seems like they aren't hazardous but we have to be cognizant of the fact that it's electricity.

    Apple, You Can Do Better!

Hello Apple. I'm a longtime customer and own multiple Apple products, however, your lighting to USB cables need improvement. As you can see by the many 1-Star reviews, this cable is not meeting the needs of your customers. This improvement should not be linked to the next product cycle, but corrected as an opportunity on for continuous improvement. Your community has spoken so please listen. Don't forget what Henry Ford once said, "Any customer can have a car painted any color that he wants so long as it is black." Are you listening to your customers?

These things don't last long. The whole lightning cable thing is a joke. I'm sure Apple says that they're "magical", though. Lol.

I don't know how do people manage to destory such a stif and strong cable. You pull it by the plastic, softlly, not by the cable, it's not glued on.

    My limits

I've had to buy multiple charger cords for my IPhone 6 that I have had for around two years. The cord breaks from the inside out. Making it sudden when it gives out. I really wished they would create and give a more durable cord so this can be a one-time purchase product. While new phones are made, the chargers stay the same. It is nice that they include a pair of earphones and of course a charger and box. Though, the phone is least of my worries breaking. I can only buy so chargers to the point where I am no longer interested in Apple anymore. At this moment another charger of mine has given out though I do take care of it, just the bending of the cord starts stressing the wires. I have 20% before this gives out for the night.- Riley

    Cable is horrible

Every official Apple lightning cable I've ever owned has worn out to the point that you have to get the cable in the exact perfect right spot for it to charge if you can even do that. My ports on the iPhone and iPod are clean. For incredibly expensive cables, they're poorly made.

Between my husband and I we have gone through 5 chargers in the last two months. That is absolutely crazy!! Normally we buy off brand and they last a few months before breaking usually. But we decided to buy some name brand and thought they'd last us longer and be better (cuz ya know, name brand and all) but THEY ARE SO BAD

    Pretty much terrible

The cable always breaks right where I plug into the phone, because it bends while I have it plugged in and use it. There should be a sturdy base, like a nice aux cable. The casing breaks open then the wires get bent and it's done. Don't be ridiculous about it, be good innovators- you're already making a fortune off the phone, guys. Come on... Don't make me buy 5 new cords a year.

Apple, we know you can do better

How can the makers of the iPhone and iPad also be responsible for these charging cables? They're great at tech, their cables are dreck!

Amazon Basics makes a better cable at a fraction of the price (not to mention three dozen Chinese off-brand companies), and Apple's response isn't to improve their overpriced product by to ensure we get "Product may not be supported" messages if we use the rationally priced cables.

Poorly done, Apple. Customer care still matters.

    Cord still going...except casing

I got a free replacement cord near the end of 1 year of nearly daily use. I am just now ordering a new cable after more than one more year of use. The cable still works totally fine despite the torn casing and 2-3 frayed strands. (The same issue as before.) I do use the cord moderately hard because I am in and out of my iPad all day long for project management, research, and relaxation. I often use it while it's plugged in. My charger, after more than two years, still works fine. I love that we can buy the cord separate from the charger cube!
1 star off for poor quality cord casing material. Why not use something studier?
