Lighting Digital AV Adapter doesn't work with HEVC Files

    • Written by Richard TY N from Singapore

I thought this cable stop working when I notice that it doesn't support new HEVC format. This means new .x265, 10 Bit and HDR is not supported by this adapter. If you want to use this cable please use only the older .x264 format.

    Good so far

    • Written by Ron K from Saskatoon

This cable is very easy to use and easily connected. I can stream from my iPhone and iPad and mirror to my TV. I see that from previous reviews, it quit working after a while, but as I say, good so far. I have given a four star rating because the cable is outrageously expensive. No reason for it to cost that type of money. I did order a cable from Amazon to start with, but returned it because it simply did not work.

    Cordcutter here, minor issues

    • Written by Todd S from Flushing

I cut the cord with a certain cable company (rhymes with Bombast), and thought this was the cat's PJs to use with my (rhymes with horizon) unlimited plan.

It was — until it simply quit working in my iPhone 6 and my wife's iPhone 7.

I thought the dongle might be defective, and initiated a return/repair with Apple.

Further digging online (not via Apple) revealed a 12.1 issue/bug.

A great Apple employee confirmed it. (After four calls to other employees/departments.)

Updated to 12.1.3, and voila! It works again.

$50 dongle versus $150 for cable? Priceless.

    Works with IOS 12.1.3

    • Written by Jeff C from Green cove springs

I bought this adapter last week after speaking with someone at tech support. He told me the adapter works with 12.1.3, and it does. I've used it for a week now with no issues. I hope they keep supporting it with future updates...

AVG Adapter working properly after ios12.1.2 update
I was able to speak w/a Very Helpful Apple Tech and after much trial and error before speaking to him.. I'd almost given up. Grateful I Did't..

    1) Plug USB Cable into TV
    2) Plug USB Cable Into AVG Adapter
    3) Plug AVG Adapter Into Iphone's lighting port
    4) Power On TV set proper input eg. If USB connected to Input 3 select Input 3 on TV settings
    5) Leave Iphone Connected to AVG/USB Do Not Disconnect, but Turn Iphone All The Way Off/ Completely Power Iphone Down
    6) leave Iphone Powered Off for Several Minutes.. No More Than 5 is needed
    7) Power Iphone Back On While Everything Is Still Connected
    8) When phone is powered back on It will most likely prompt You to enter pass-code If You have set up lock screen
    9) Go to a site such as Netflix/ Hulu/ Youtube and select a Video.....PLAY!
    10) This Should Resolve ios.12.1.2 Glitch and You are Now Good To Go!
Think Of It Like The Old PC Tactic of; Turning Your Tower All The Way Off.. Then All The Way Back On.. Like A Basic ReBoot ;)
    Good Luck ;))

    Works for Me

    • Written by George M from Charlottetown

I bought this unit with the Apple-Belkin cable. Have downloaded and watched Netflix for a couple of months. Check your screen saver as it is not always overridden. Movies sometimes stop each time your screen saver kicks in - especially after the first one.

Now works on iPad pro with iOS 11.4.1. Check the HDR setting.

    • Written by J L from Clarksville

I saw the many reviews stating that the Digital AV product (HDMI adapter) doesn't work on iOS 11.4.1, but by 8/26/2018 that issue seems to have been worked out. I downloaded a movie from iTunes before playing it, but we still saw some video freezing on the TV about an hour into the movie. I paused the playback for a few minutes and the issue went away. I noticed that in the settings for TV (settings->TV->iTunes Videos there is a setting for HDR. There is a little notice that says HDR will not play via the Digital AV adapter. I don't know whether this is relevant to the video freezing issue, or whether that's the issue for other people who couldn't play back movies over HDMI, but perhaps downloading the SD version of movies will avoid video playback problems.

Works with iPad running iOS 11.0.3

    • Written by Arthur H from Kailua

I switched the HDMI cable to a different port on a VISIO smart TV and the Adapter started to work. I’m using an iPad 5th gen.(2017) running iOS 11.0.3. Try switching the HDMI cable to different port on your TV because there are different types of ports. The adapter is compatible with only a certain type of HDMI port. This is what I did: First I turned OFF the iPad completely (not the sleep mode). Plug in the AV Adapter and HDMI cable. Turn On the TV and iPad. When the iPad has booted up and after a few seconds a blue bar will appear at the top of the iPad screen. This indicates that the iPad is now paired to the TV. The iPad screen should now be mirrored on the TV. Go to “Settings”on the iPad, tap “General”, then “About”. Near the bottom of the screen, “Apple Digital AV Adapter” should be listed. Netflix, YouTube, and games work. Resolution is not great but it depends on your TV. I hope this helps. Try the above before you decide to return the Adapter.

    Yes! It works!

Not sure why all the bad reviews. I used this with my iPhone 7+, and 6S, and no issues. Worked perfectly immediately. Not 5 stars because I think its a bit spendy for what it is.

Okay, not as bad as people make it sound

    • Written by Jose R from Converse

Ive had this adapter for about a year now, I constantly travel for my job so I use it a lot in hotels, I have noticed that it is very delicate, so you have to really take care of it! It works Fantastic integrating movies. I will worn you that Crackle and Hulu does not support it, and will not work. I think Its a great investment and recommend travelers to buy this. Hope this helps!

Very Good - (plug in your powerlead)

    • Written by Don R from Perth

Bought the cable version to send phone to big dis[play as it is more portable. Then realised it needs to plugged in to the charger, CLUE here for many who complain about this product I suspect - plug in the charger on the AV dongle.
Works perfectly - great picture and sound quality, much better than I expected. Only 4* as it needed power plugged in but nobody tells you.

    Works Great

    • Written by Mark M from Orleans

I travel a lot and this allows me to hook up my iPhone 6s or iPad Air to a TV. I pack it and an HDMI cable and it is great!

I would give it 5 stars but it is quite expensive, so it only gets 4 from me.

    You need to be careful.

    • Written by Justin R from COON RAPIDS

The lightning adapters are very sensitive, and 90% of the time, when one of these breaks, it's because people handle them improperly, either by jarring the connector or yanking it out by the cord. They DO work, and require no configuration. It's like any other electronic device. Treat your stuff with respect and it'll continue to function normally.

Working again as of iOS 11.0.3(15A432)

    • Written by Rick G from Hamilton

The adapter is working on my iPhone 5s as of iOS 11.0.3(15A432) with the HDMI input of a TV.

I find the booting-up order matters. This works for me:

    - iPhone in 'sleep' mode, TV off
    - plug HDMI cable into TV input
    - plug lightning end of adapter into iPhone
    - wake iPhone
    - turn on TV (the HDMI port appears as active and selectable)
    - select the HDMI port on the TV

Before updating to iOS 11 from iOS 10, the TV would sometimes fail to recognize the adapter if I had the TV and iPhone turned on already and plugged the adapter and HDMI cable in.
