    Very happy with this router

This is my second AirPort Extreme router, and I've owned it for more than 2 years. The first extreme I bought 7 years ago, and gave it to a friend when I moved into a bigger place and bought this one. I've never experienced any problems with the hardware or signal - it's been rock solid and hassle-free. I own a 2,600 sq. ft. home built in 1936, so the walls and floors are solid. My internet connection enters the house in a corner of the basement, so that's where I have the AirPort Extreme. It's powerful enough to run an AppleTV, upstairs in the opposite corner of the house, along with my office Mac, on the main level but also in the opposite corner of the house. Very happy and hope to keep it for many more years.

    Best router ever

I have been using mine for the last two years. I have lived to two different locations, both with three floors, and I have never had an issue with the signal no matter where I am in the house. Simultaneously, we are constantly using Apple TV, Ipads, Iphones, laptops and other various wireless technologies and have never had an issue. I do not understand why Apple would want to cancel making such an awesome product.

    The Extreme works for me!

I have three (3) floors, with the Airport Extreme in my basement and we have 3 Apple TVs, an older Airport Extreme, a few Airports and an array of wireless devices (including a couple of SmartTVs). We have a wired and wireless and the Airport works great. This is after a 1 year and no significant issues. I would highly recommend the Airport Extreme.

This product is really amazing, I've buoyed 5 of them to my house and my business and is really helpful and easy to set up.

    Most stable router

Most people overlook Apple routers because of "premium" prices. That is unfortunate because it is really a very solid, highly stable and easy to use router.

I have used many different brands of routers and always end up being annoyed because of periodic flakiness that requires restarting them to restore normal operations.

My experience with Apple's 6th gen (ac) and previous 5th gen airport extreme has been very satisfying. Set up once and leave it running after that; the very definition of set and forget. FYI, my devices at home are not all Apple gear, although I have quite a lot of them too.

My way of getting around the premium prices is to get them 2nd hand on places like gumtree or ebay. For example, I got the 5th gen a few years back for $60 and sold it for $50 recently when I upgraded to the 6th gen for a very reasonable price of $95.

Such a pity that there will not be a 7th gen as Apple is no longer interested in this space.

    Don't agree with poor reviews

I have 2 airport extremes and 3 airport express and not one of them have ever had an issue for over 3 years. I am disappointed that Apple has decided to exit this space because their WiFi products have been fantastic. Not only are they easy to install, can automatically find each other and pair into a cellular WiFi setup, they were the only products on the market for home use that supported more than 16 connections (AirPort support 50). I also leverage the AirPlay feature as well as the USB port for time machine. Bar none, there are no better products on the market. For all those people who are reporting one star, I can say that their responses are an exaggeration at best. Most of mine are located inside in a well-controlled environment, but I also have one express located outside by my pool where it is humid and 95 degrees all summer. It has lasted over 2 years now, which was a surprise. I figured I would have to replace it every couple of years. Though still a bit anecdotal, I have probably more airport extremes and expresses than average in my house and have not had a single failure. There was one release of the software a couple of years ago that was problematic, but Apple fixed it almost immediately. Apple please bring them back with a new innovation. Fantastic product.

HUGE WASTE OF $$$. Faulty fan will stop working after a year.

I would give this less than one star if I could. As others have reported, the fan stopped working just out of the 1 year warranty period, Now it's just a useless lump of wires and plastic. Since Apple rarely acknowledges design/hardware flaws, we are all SOL.

Easy to install & reliable after a year in service

Installed for about a year now. Has been rock solid. In tests with my older Airport Extreme A1408 and Airport Express A1392, this unit provides greater wireless speed and distance throughout the home. Works great as a router or in bridge mode. A++

Less than two years later, it's dead

I was happy with this unit when it worked. It lacked some of the configuration options of other brands, but I liked that you could manage it with Airport Utility from any device.

I used it in the living room of my 1-bedroom apartment, so should have had a strong signal anywhere, but it was weak in my bedroom. Probably could have moved it to a different room for better results, but who wants a router on their kitchen countertop?!

Anyway, it stopped working. Amber light repeats indefinitely, unit cannot be seen by Airport Utility on any device. Have performed countless soft/hard/factory resets and nothing changed. Did some research online only to learn that an internal component is likely fried and the unit is dead.

I won't bother bringing it into an Apple store, they'll just tell me to buy a new one. Not sure what I will replace it with, but in the meantime I am using an old DLink Dir-655 I had in storage. It's old and janky, but it still works ten years later, unlike any single Apple product I have ever owned.

    Works perfectly

I've had one for for almost two years now. It was easy to configure via Mac and it's easy to manage via iPhone. Never had a problem with it, it doesn't overheat and it doesn't make any noise. The LED blinks yellow when a software update is available. I can see some users reported here about their devices failing after 1-2 years, I'm waiting to see if mine behaves ;) Too bad Apple (reportedly) discontinued this product series, I suppose the next HomePod iteration may also act as a WiFi router?

    Lasted exactly 1 year + 1 month

This unit worked fine for the first year, but now it's one month out of warranty and it's making very loud squealing noise, overheating, and restarting. We have numerous Apple products (two iMacs, two iPads, two iPhones) and am shocked by the low quality of this product. From seeing the other reviews, it looks like this is a very common problem with this unit.

    Great Product

I have two of these and one of the Time Capsule equivalents covering my house for two years. The coverage is great, and the reliability of the product has been excellent. I haven't had to restart them for any reason other than normal (updates, etc.) Roaming between the devices is working well.

The only caveat is that one of my friends has reported issues configuring these if you don't have an Apple OS X or iOS device to set it with.

    Great Product...for About 18 Months

DO NOT BUY. This product worked seamlessly for about 18 months. Then, out of no where, it started dropping connection and had to reboot it almost daily. I thought it was a problem with my provider, but I switched over to a cheaper router and my service works perfectly now. So now I have a $200 white brick that looks cool. I have all Apple products, and this by far has been the worst product I've owned. DO NOT BUY.

    Outstanding product

Had mine for almost two years now, at the beginning had the same problems most others describe, but made a search for that on the Apple website and found out that it is a common problem with subscribers to certain cable companies. They offered a solution which I performed, and haven't had a single issue since. Works great with my two Apple TV devices, as well as my I-phone, and I-pad. Great network reliability.

    So far so excellent

I spent a lot of time researching new systems (Orbi, Amplify, Eero, etc.) to upgrade my home wifi. And spent some time talking to Apple by phone and at the store. Finally pulled the trigger on an Extreme and two Expresses, and so far the system is working flawlessly. Setup was as easy as advertised. Took me two minutes to set up each device using my iPhone. A firmware update occurred without affecting the system. So far I have excellent wifi reception throughout the house and on the back patio - even next door to the in-laws house. Better than what I had with the Verizon router and a 2G/5G wifi extender. And only one network name instead of three. I've moved both Expresses twice to optimize coverage, and within 90 seconds each was back up and running. Moved the Apple products over to the new wifi first, and setup was a snap. Have also migrated Nest products with no problem. We'll have to wait and see if I run into problems after 12-18 months as some reviewers have experienced. So far I couldn't be more happy.

    Airport Extreme 15 Months old

This wireless router worked for about 14 months, then at 14 months started buzzing and is limping along at 3.3 mbps wired and wireless, barely able to download a Youtube video, terrible and conveniently warranty was up in 12 months. I'll never buy an airport extreme again.

    Very user friendly and reliable

I've had my unit for well over 2 years now, and it's worked very good. The signal is strong, we have our 2 DVR's, desktops, security camera, thermostat and so on connected, in other words, the unit is under constant 'strain' and the performance has held up well. We had one minor issue where our devices couldn't connect to it, so we took it the apple store and they performed a master reset, and the problem went away!

Junk Product (Getting overheating error in airport utility)

I had a Linksys router which works without any issues for over 6 years,

Then I brought Airport Extreme, worked ok for 2 years, now keep getting overheating error in airport utility and signals keeps dropping so much for $199.00 except for the aesthetic its a piece of junk with cheap parts, would have hoped its lasted longer.

    Amazing

wish i got one of these earlier, had my doubts due to it being an old product but still faster than my other 1 year router, would definitely recommend, also if you plug a hard drive into it, wireless time machine backing up!
