Purchase if you want a WORSE battery life

I purchased this case for a long trip to Newcastle, making sure I would have enough battery life to last me the entire trip. I left apple reading store thinking this is great I've got an awesome case here, and yes that's true in some aspects. The case has protected the phone from a few small drops! But in theory it's completely wrecked my original battery. I have only had the phone 4-5 months now and the battery lasts me a total of 1 hour max after the case is drained! DO NOT BUY!

Apple, you really need to change the design is this case ASAP. We need to be able to turn the charger off through either the case it's self or the phone so we don't have to RUIN our battery life on our original phones.. not happy with the result this case has given me....

    Solid battery case.

    Pros:
    - Apple Smart Case means that it charges faster (if iPhone is below 90%).
    - Good Fit
    - About 80% more Battery

    Cons:
    - The Silicon case falls part quickly. The edges peeled within a month, and the surface was sticky.

Apple replaced this one for me and the second battery case was better for about a month. Then the same issues.

    Excellent case!!

So far I have to say the case is very nice. Having extra battery is so much easier than looking for a place to charge while on the run. I cant say it is any heavier or bigger than a lot of other cases. I have seen reviews of people complaining of its weight and size but my Otterbox Defender was bigger in every dimension and the weight is not a problem. I use an Encase belt clip holster for the smart case so the weight does not bother me. Very comparable to feel of the Otterbox I had. I like having the battery life in the notification center and being able to use my lightning cable is priceless. I did a sync with iTunes with the case on and no issues of course. My only suggestion for change on this product is give it a little more protection however I am used to having an Otterbox so maybe I am just paranoid.

Love except for this one thing...

Really pleased with this case overall. Here's my breakdown and a little about me and my regular phone usage/wear and tear.

Case size/bulk: Before ordering this case I read many reviews as I was concerned about the bulk of the case (not just this case in general but all external battery cases.) After reading many that it's actually a rather pleasing design to hold I went ahead and took the plunge. I'm a rather petit girl at only 5'1"- the importance of telling you this is that I have very small hands. At first when I put the case on I found it to be rather heavy, but after only a few hours of use I now also agree that the design is very pleasing to hold

Battery life: I'm your typical 22 year old, meaning I spend way too much time on social media. I've found the cases battery life lasted much longer than I had even expected and that's before dipping into the phones actual charge.

Ruggedness: Once again being that my phone is in my hand I have a tendency to drop it more often than others. This is where the cases only fault for me lies. Upon one drop (probably about 4ft off the ground) the case lost chunks of the outer silicon. After using the same $35 case for over a year and it showing less damage than even a Lifeproof I had for 2 months did, I was very disappointed with how scuffed up this case got with one fall (literally on the second day of using the case). While I do not plan to walk with my phone in my hand anymore now, the scuffing is just something I wish I would've been aware of before using the case.

    VERY pleased (so far)

It's the slimmest battery case I've found; works great for me for during the week heavy use times. People complain about the "hump"; you can hardly see it and it is what it is. I'd rather have that than carry around a 12volt truck battery and jumper cables! No issues with it "sticking" in my pocket as may complain about, no issues with it collecting excessive lint; it just works as intended. People complain that you can not read battery levels,.. YOU CAN! From your home screen (IOS 10) swipe right and there's a widget there that will read the battery levels on both the phone and the case! As far as "cosmetics" I use this weekdays and if I'm going out I simply swap the case! As it draws from the case first, chances are if I swap the case for the evening my phone is pretty well charged! I've yet to see a high end "fashion case" with a battery built in; this case may not be high style but it's not ugly! It looks and feels like it would afford decent fall protection. My "guesstimate" is that with average to moderate use I can easily get 24 hours ++++ out of it,... that's plenty for me,.. sooner or later you have to recharge any of them!

It could use a few design tweaks but overall it works great!

The case is very convenient to use and greatly increases the battery life of the phone over the course of a day. I also really like that it uses a non recessed lightning port to charge the case meaning it works with all of your existing lightning cords and the Apple Lightning Dock. The only things I can say I don't like are A: you can pretty much only use Apple's EarPods with this case on your phone as the headphone jack opening on the case is super narrow. B: You can't turn the case off, it is always charging your phone... I just feel paranoid about my phone trickle charging all day long C: And probably my biggest complaint is the rubber they used to make the outside of the case wears out quickly. When you first get the case it has a nice soft matte rubber texture but after only about a week of sliding the case in and out of a pocket the rubber finish wears down to a slick shiny texture that is not as easy to grip and feels much cheaper.

Nice and soft (for better and worse)

The good news: it's well-made and has a nice tactile feel thanks to its silicone layer. The "bump" is also pretty useful if you're holding this phone sideways (like a de facto handle), and it does cut down on the case's total bulk. Its extension speaker is also nice and clear. The press went off on this thing, but strangers compliment me on it more often than not1

The bad news: well, there are other cases with larger added batteries, so really heavy duty users might want to see the third-party stuff and compare. Silicone won't crack, which is nice, but it does wear off with repeated bumps. It won't look very pristine for long as a result (just like the normal official silicone cases). Worst part: for $100 Apple won't give you a 3.5 mm extension jack like Mophie et al. If you're using EarPods or wireless headsets, this is a non-issue; other wired headphone users should find an extension jack online or steer clear of anything using an L-shaped jack connector (which rules out a lot, like some older Beats units and everything from Sony).

    Nice Case

Head phone jack needs an extender of some kind, to use a standard head phone jack requires removal from case to use.

    great case!

I got this case a couple of days ago and I LOVE it! It took a little getting used to because obviously it's a little heavier than most cases, but every day getting up around 8 am by 11 or noon my phone would already be around 50% and always having to plug it in got to be a hassle. However with the case I go to bed at night, even at midnight and my phone is only at 50%. When you plug your phone and the case in at night (together), the charger charges the phone first and the case second and I promise it will last you most of, if not the whole day. I HIGHLY recommend to anyone looking for a charging case. :)

I used to love apple products.

Post jobs apple products have really let me down... Especially this "smart battery case" sometimes the battery case is around 50% charge yet my phone isnt charging. The biggest and most awful gripe is how nasty this thing gets if you have greasy skin like i do i can wash my hands 100x and right after i wipe my case off its just as greasy and nasty 30 seconds later. There is literally way too many complaints for me to list in a small box like this just really expected more from this case.

    Love this case!!

Bought this about 9 months ago and I love it.... I used to go to my portable power bank by around 4 p.m. everyday to keep my phone going, but since I've bought this case, I haven't once used up the power in my phone... I really like that the case battery is used before the phone battery (so if I need to remove it to slip the phone into my smallest evening bag, the phone still has 100% power at that point after a full day of use!) I see a lot a comments here about the case not holding up cosmetically, but my white one still looks like new and it's been on my phone continuously since the day I bought it.

Pros: smooth non-slip grip, works great, dont have to remove case to charge the phone on my dock or with a cable
Cons: adds a lot of weight and phone will not fit into many "wallets" and small pocketbooks with the case on... (I know, I know... it's a girl problem!)

Wondering if my 6s case all fit on my new 7 ????

    Good product

Charge is great but the actual material of the case is terrible. The rubber peals and if you drop it on the floor by accident it will for sure rip. Love this case but after some wear and tear it isn't looking it's best.

    Terrible in all aspects

    - Design: ugly bump on the back of the phone
    - Durability: part of case shred of at first day
    - Usability: cannot choose when to use battery, defeating the purpose of a backup battery
    - Function: much fewer battery capacity than usual for battery cases, charges slower than other batteries and sometimes charges even slower than battery is drained using the phone
    - Reliability: terrible, sometimes phone battery empty, but case battery 90%

I used to love apple, but this product and the Apple Watch are a disaster. Wish someone like Steve Jobs was there to enforce a sanity check on products.

Good, but needs to be cheaper.

First, lets get this out of the way. You get kind of used to the hump/backpack/iBaby bump/Alien baby bump after the first, maybe, 5 minutes? It takes away bulk from the rest of the case, allows the top to flex so the case stays in one piece while removing/putting the case on, and makes it more comfortable in the hand overall. Plus when you put it on a table the battery piece is just thin enough to give your iPhone a "floating" illusion as well as make the case seem thinner than it is.

Other benefits of course include the fact this case uses a lightning port instead of micro-USB which is great. You can see the exact percentage of the case's battery life in the notification center of the phone. Some people don't like the fact that you can't turn the case on or off at will, to which I say is a frivolous complaint. Reason being is that whether you use the phone's battery or case battery, its still taking away from the same total battery life. In my opinion, not having to worry about wondering if the case is switched on or off is just one less thing to worry about period. And there are apparently extra cellular bands in the case to strengthen call reception instead of letting the case block some of that reception from the iPhone. So you do get a lot of decent unique features here that you wouldn't get on other third party cases.

That being said, this case still costs 100 big ones. For that 100 bucks, you get a case that doesn't even give you a full iPhone charge if the iPhone was being charged from 0%. Apple should've made the battery bigger around the bottom to give it that extra juice, while at the same time letting it keep the flexing top feature. The silicone material too I'm not a fan of. After a couple weeks this thing became a greasy linty mess. And I wash my hands QUITE often thank you very much. The corners start to wear away easily too from being in jeans a lot. The charcoal gray color looks really cheap and unattractive once the case gets to that condition. Also, good luck trying to use non-Earpod headphones on this case, because most won't fit the case's extended cutout for the headphone jack.

So honestly its a hit or miss type of product. Apple definitely could've done more with the overall look and design of the case, as well as give it more juice to justify that ridiculously high price tag. But at the end of the day you get a pretty decent product that will still extend your battery life enough where you never have to worry much about the phone dying, unless you're awake for days at a time.

    Not a very durable product

The case offers god phone protection when used with a tempered glass shield but it takes a long time to charge and really needs to be charged separately. It also needs to be charged from an iPad charger or it will take forever.
The silicone covering peels off from just pocket use. I am VERY disappointed in the value for money. At $99 I think I have a right to expect that it will last longer than a few months before it looks like a thrift shop special.

My advice is get your accessories from aftermarket suppliers. They have to make a good product to stay in business.

    Charging good- material poor quality

I have this in white. At first it was beautiful. I bought this case in April and by June the material along the side had started to tear off. It looks like an animal has taken bites out of it. It's rather unpleasant looking. It's disappointing that a $99 case would be having so much wear and tear after only a few months. The charging still works very well but the silicone material should be a lot more resistant at this price point. I never had issues like this with other charging cases.

    Headphone Jack Compatibility

If you are using a headphone with an L-shaped jack (for example, Bose) than you have to switch to a different brand with a straight jack (like Beats) or a bluetooth headphone.

    More Selection

This case would be better if it was also offered for the iPhone 6/6s Plus. Even though the larger phones have larger battery and last longer a charging case would still be helpful to many iPhone users.
