    Fix for Blinking Problem

This was a 1-star until I discovered this trick: 1) Connect to a monitor 2) Apple > Sleep 3) Then hit spacebar to wake, and log in. Result) No more blinking. This accessory along with a Mac is terrible at hot-swapping, but if I wake the computer up with it already connected, it hasn't caused me problems.

    worst apple product

I was happy with this adapter until I got a some small brand adapter... then I realised this expensive apple adapter destroyed it's repute
    HDMI work fine
type C interface is only for charging input
the USB port, is the worst, low speed, if connected to a external hard disk, 2.4Ghz wifi is affected.
if connected to a mouse or keyboard dongle, you will suffer lag and non response

just like it's name, it's just a multiport of AV + charging adapter

    C'mon Apple

I cannot believe Apple could put out a product that simply cannot be depended upon to work. Fortunately, I have back-up plan upon back-up plan. I present for a living. My stuff has to work! I bought the USB-C HDMI adapter. I tried it on my TV at home before I hit the road. It worked. I also bought the USB-C VGA adapter. I tried it at home on my projector. It worked. I got on the road and the HDMI adapter did not work. Fortunately, the VGA adapter worked. My back-up after that was the exported Keynote to PowerPoint file that I would have had to run on a PC. C'mon Apple.

HDMI not working - USB underpowered - major disappointment

I decided to buy the MacBook realizing the port situation would be painful, but this apple branded dongle seemed to be an adequate workaround if it worked as described. I noted prior reviews but bought it anyway in late Sept 2017 thinking that mainly disgruntled people would post reviews so perhaps the negative preponderance was biased. That was wishful thinking. Unfortunately, in my first week of experience, the USB has insufficient amperage and the HDMI has not worked at all on any of the monitors I have tried to hook into (they worked fine with my 2013 MBP HDMI available as a backup). Firmware and drivers are up-to-date including a patch early Oct 2017. MacOs X.13 (High Sierra). Bummed and will seek refund.

    HDMI doesn't work

Piece of junk! HDMI is simply not working: have tired several external displays, spent half a day googling for solutions, read many similar feedbacks - useless. Considering price-troubles ratio it would get 9 out of 10.

Necessary cable that has almost all you need and works well

    Should be withdrawn from sale

This adapter is unfit to be sold. I have tried it with 5 different HDMI cable and monitor combinations (all of which work fine with every other device I have plugged into them) and I cannot get it to work reliably. It works intermittently with one of my HDMI monitors until my macbook goes to sleep and then it won't work again until I reboot it and plug everything in in a certain order. It is an expensive piece of junk!

    Pain in the heart

Above all, for all buyers, please note: the HDMI and the USB-A can work together. And the USB-C port is ONLY for CHARGING, I tried to plug in a USB-C device it does not work.

    Review:
After trying out different brand of USB-C adapters, I decided to come to apple. then I brought this thing. I've tried it out and it keeps disconnecting my USB SSD. Strangely, the USB-C to USB-A adapter(also Apple Branded) works fine with my SSD, so I went to apple for help. They sent me another unit and the problem persists. After days and days of testing, I found out that this product is not compatible with certain USB devices, such as the G-technology as stated in it's description, and my Crucial SSD(no matter what Enclosure I use it just won't work)

And I end up buying another USB-C to USB-A adapter to work with my SSD.

Otherwise, ti works find with my external HDMI monitor, however it's not a 4K monitor so I can't comment on that.
Apple, seriously, I didn't know that you can make a USB port that easily non-compatiable with my USB devices. I hope you develop a firmware or driver or something to fix this problem, it's a rather expensive adapter after all.

Apple doesn't even know the USB-C spec...

This thing is just garbage... I bought along with my new MacBook 12 about a year ago. For some reason, even though I can power all kinds of devices (drives) with the straight USB adapter, this thing will absolutely not power anything despite it being plugged in via the laptop power cable! One of the big deals on USBC is supposedly it's amazing power management and the ability to allocate power as needed (I.E. FROM A PLUGGED IN POWER CABLE ON YOUR MULTI ADAPATER). It just doesn't work. I've had to purchase a POWERED hub, just to charge and power a single (modern) drive. Absolutely annoying!

Hard drive disconnects, charging too weak

I've been using this for about a week now and have observed that, and read in reviews, that connecting a hard drive to this device is unstable. My Time Machine randomly disconnects (good thing I have two backups!). I would not suggest using this for any other sort of drive. The power supply to my MacBook Pro 2017 is not enough to keep the battery at 100% while playing games in Windows. Additionally, the HDMI is rather finicky, with a lot of flicker until the Mac and my external display sort themselves out. Generally speaking, a poor product. I wish I bought an Anker dock instead.

    Terrible

Returned this after months of issues with HDMI for me and a colleague on two separate MacBook Pros with two separate adapters, cables and screens. Monitors never wake up, and occasionally the HDMI output just stops working totally. Now I'm stumped as to how to get a reliable monitor output from our MacBooks. I'm shocked there's not a functional Apple solution available.

Works GREAT in macOS High Sierra

I bought this adapter to use with my new 15" MacBookPro with USB-C that I received Friday (22 SEP 2017).
In macOS Sierra, the adapter performed terrible (the HDMI display kept cutting out).
I updated to macOS High Sierra today, and this adapter now performs great. Coming out of sleep mode on my Mac, there is NO HDMI problems. And, the MacBook now correctly receives power from the charger cable attached to the USB-c input port.
My adapter has external USB devices (on a small hub) on the USB port, an external monitor on the HDMI port and the MacBook power adapter on the USB-C input port. The adapter is only using one USB-c connector on my MacBook Pro.
All the negative ratings were justified under macOS Sierra. But in MacOS High Sierra, all the problems and issues have been fixed! The adapter NOW works as Apple originally intended. Update to macOS High Sierra.

    Not USB 3

Works with USB 3 Macbook and USB 3 devices, but the adapter itself is not USB 3 (only USB 2), so everything is super slow. Seems lazy or cheep (or both) that this is the only adapter Apple sells. Hardly challenging the status quo.

Can I give it ZERO STARS!!!!!

USB-C is a joke! You market to creatives and then get one over on them by creating this monster of connectivity! Literally awful. Had a show tonight get cancelled because HDMI wouldn't work! COME ON APPLE it's now costing me money! FIX IT

Product Defect less than 30 days

The multiport adapter is in the expensive side but you will need it if you need USB port. Purchased the adapter on August 27th, 2017 and the USB port is currently not working on September 19th, 2017. It is frustrating when I cannot connect my printer to print documents, charge iPhone and charge Magic Mouse when I am on the go.

USB works for 5 minutes then it doesn't

I bough this for the USB functionality, and when I copy stuff from mac into pen drive, it works for a moment then I get that the pen drive was disconnected but it wasn't! it happens consistantly.

Now when I connect an external harddrive, it happens the same, even If I'm not doing any write, it suddenly disconnects itself and I have to wait a couple of minutes before I can try again, just to see it happen again.

    USB not working.

Bad behavior on a 3440x1440 display

With this device the picture is displayed at 60fps on my ultrawide 3440x1440 display which is nice but I experienced many issues when using it on my display while my mac cap is closed : image flicks occasionally, return from sleep mode does not work, occasionnaly the mac displays turn black and I have to perform a hard reset. I bought another one and the problem still occurs.

Have to agree with all the 1star reviews, this adapter doesn't work with external USB drives, rendering it useless. Returning to apple!
