    Piece of junk

You would think that for an expensive adapter that is required for almost all new apple laptops, it would work well.

Well thats were you are wrong.

This piece of garbage does not work for any type of USB hard drive. Both bus powered and powered hard drives will not connect at all with this dongle. the USB port only works for charging apple devices.

The HDMI port is very sensitive and disconnects all the time (And no it's not the cable, I've switched that out)

This is just an overall piece of junk.

    Doesn't work for 4k @ 60hz

The HDMI adapter doesn't work for 4k monitors even after the person in the Apple Store told me it would. DO NOT BUY this item

    Does not work.

Purchased to connect an external monitor to a new MacBook Pro that only has USB-C... simply stated, it doesn't work. If you spend 10-15 minutes plugging and unplugging cables between the computer, adapter and monitor and changing resolutions in the preferences, you'll get it to work if you're lucky. But, as soon as the computer goes to sleep or you need to restart you're back to the same problem of no video on the external monitor. The monitor works great with other MacBooks and iMacs, just not with this adapter.

    The USB-C port doesn't work

I don't know what to expect... I connect a USB-C to lightning cable to the adapter which connects to my MBP but my phone doesn't charge. I don't know if that is expected or not. I will go to Apple Store and ask about this later.

    Poor quality, Apple price

I've got an Apple MacBook Pro 13'
You only have 2 USB-C ports, which OBLIGE you to buy the USB-C connector for HDMI / ...
So except for the continuous blinking of my screens connected with HDMI, which is freaking annoying, I have another issue.
I've bought a USB-C connector for ethernet connection, because... you don't always have WiFi (and that's not my fault, Apple boyz).
The Adapter can't connect another USB-C item, althoug it has a port for it...
So for you, developer / graphical designer / ... who needs to be mobile and needs a couple of screens, please, buy another product. Apple is slowly turning into the windows of the days. A lot of problems for a lot of money!

So as a lot of other reviews state... don't buy it... it's not worth the money. I've spent 180€ (215$) on it, and for what? Troubles.

This may be the worst product offered.

I switched to Mac in March before going back to school. Picked this adapter over a more expensive third party. Should have gone with the third party. Since March 2017 I have gone through two of these adapters and had to deal with the HDMI connector failing on both. When I contacted Apple to discuss the problem and to see if there was a recall I was told because I purchased it through Best Buy I needed to talk to them to see if they would exchange it. Exchange? I don't want this piece of junk I want a solution. So long story short, don't waste your money on this or you will be wasting your money and time dealing with the problem.

Inefficient Power for 15" Macbook Pro

This adapted (despite it not being listed in the description) is limited to 55W passthrough power output. This means that 15" Macbooks, which ship with an 87W charger will not charge as quickly using the adapter, and under heavy loads will slowly drain the battery.

Does what it is supposed to do!

I teach university level chemistry labs from my laptop three times a week and rely on the adapter to do so. The adapter has personally never failed to hookup the HDMI and my USB at the same time. I purchased this about 8-9 months ago and it still works perfectly.

    Terrible product

I can't believe Apple released this product. I just wasted 3 hours trying to solve my HDMI problem. The monitor worked fine with my older MacBook Pro with the built-in HDMI port. But with my brand new, $3000 MacBook Pro the video kept cutting out. I tried everything before I read these reviews. Very poor user experience, and too late to get my $90 back. Seriously, never buy an accessory for Apple.

HDMI won't work. Apple you are not like this are you?

Same as most people on this thread. No joy on my HDMI monitor. Just black and system prefs keeps switching on and off with display prefs open. Is there a fix?

Blue flicker and freezing using HDMI

When I use the HDMI port to connect an external monitor with this adapter I get a blue flicker about every 10 seconds. Additionally, It freezes and I have to unplug and plug the HDMI cable back in at least six to eight times a day. This behavior did not occur on my recently replaced 2013 model that had a dedicated HDMI out with the same monitor. From reading online this seems to be pervasive across lots of USB-C to HDMI adapters using a MacBook.

NO it does NOT charge your laptop

I have I think 3 or maybe 4 of these. They absolutely do not charge the computer. NONE of them!

Just having it sitting on and connected while sending emails - and my batteries will drop from 100% to 55% in the course of 4-5 hours. The only way to keep battery up is via direct connection to a port - NOT through this DONGLE

Causes my mac to freeze or crash daily

If you do any sort of moving around with your machine in an office, plugging and unplugging, coming back to your desktop... then you should probably expect this to crash your system pretty regularly. With my new MBP with all USB-C ports, hard to know exactly where to place the blame, but the crashes almost always happen when either unplugging or plugging this thing in.

Lightning LAN adapter do not work

I have LAN connection that did not work with this adapter. The connection setup is USB-C Digital Multiport Adapter -> USB-C to Lightning Adapter -> Lightning to LAN connection. If I connect the Lightning to LAN adapter directly to the USB-C port of my MacBook Pro, it worked. But no through the Multiport adapter. Had a similar problem with the Displayport connection too. It should be clearly mentioned in the description what type of connections will work the multiport adapter.

    Bottleneck! Look elsewhere.

For a mere $70 USD you can use this device to turn your Thunderbolt 3 port into a USB 2.1 and an HDMI 1.4 port with a Type-C port that is good for taking 3 days to charge your laptop. Do not expect it to properly run high resolution displays or USB 3.0 disc drives because it's just not capable. This would be worth the money if it had the latest interface technology, but it does not. Sneaky, sneaky Apple. Shame on you.

Adapter working as advertised with MacBook Pro 15 (2017) and 4k monitors

This adapter works as advertised; the USB-C port can be used to power the laptop, the HDMI port can drive my Dell S2817Q 4k monitor, and the USB port can connect my TimeMachine backup drive or iPhone with no problems. I plugged it in, there was no driver or other firmware to load, it simply worked. In fact, I have two of these adapters to drive two of those 28" Dell monitors, and they work without issue at their highest resolution. I plug in a SteelSeries Apex 350 keyboard (not for gaming, I develop software) and Sensei wireless mouse, and they work perfectly. The problems faced by those early adopters seem to be resolved with this latest hardware.

As a slightly negative point, I would have expected the USB-C port on the adapter to provide power and data to my iPhone, but as the online specifications indicate, that port is meant as an input to supply power to the laptop. That wasn't clear to me initially, but is not an issue for my configuration. I recommend this latest version of the adapter for use with new MBPs, keeping this shortcoming in mind.

    Don't waste your money

Seems that Apple has not even tried the product before release. Expect annoying moments if you are using Mac in business use. presentations fail 9/10 times because HDMI does not work. Apple has had a year to fix this after release of touch bar Mac Pro. No progress so far...
