    Works great for me too

I got this for free after Apple replaced my 2012 Retina with a 2017 Touch Bar 15" for the price of a battery replacement (they were low in stock at the time and offered me a new laptop). It works perfectly for me so far! Not sure why all these ratings are so low, maybe they were before Apple released a firmware update? I got an update the first time I plugged it in and has worked fine for me.

Thought it was Junk too but found problem with HDMI

If you have "flickering", check that all devices are HDMI 2.0. If not, "flickering" will occur.

It's absolutely inferior product compared to other brands

First of all: the HDMI port cannot delivery 4K@60Hz, not even 2560x1440@60Hz on HDMI2.0. Many other USB-C adapter support 4K@60Hz on HDMI2.0.

Why are Apple peripheral devices allowed to pass such a low-quality standard? Absolutely disappointed in this device.

    Dead of arrival

I purchased this adapter but unfortunately, the USB-C port does not work. It does not allow me to sync my iPhone with my laptop nor to charge it. It looks like there is no quality assurance at all and faulty devices are shipped.

Worked for me, with an asterisk

Have 12" MacBook. Bought this to connect to Dell U3014 monitor (2650X1600). First time plugged into my internet-connected MacBook it automatically downloaded an update and asked to reboot. OK.

Been working fine ever since. Leave it plugged into my USB-C charger and a HDMI (don't care about 30hz limitation to monitor) and use it like a dock. My 30" monitor is on an arm so I can adjust for height. The Dell will stay active and MacBook on when I close the MacBook - so if I wanted to go wild and use another keyboard / mouse, that would work.

The HDMI connection looks OK on the Dell. Not great, but very workable with... work stuff. No gaming. The MacBook natively supports this resolution at 30hz over HDMI. OK.

But, sometimes when waking up the units in the morning, the HDMI does not wake up the Dell. Maybe 1 in 7 times it doesn't. Just unplug HDMI out of the adaptor, replug, ok.

All ports work well for me.

I regularly use it at school to hook up to an older (2012-ish) Dell hdmi monitor. I also power my MBP through the USB-C port, and sometimes use the USB-A port to plug in other people's flash drives to transfer files. All the ports work! Felt the need to rate, since this had such a low rating. It works perfectly for me, and I've been using it since Dec 2016, and it's Aug 2017 right now :)

    Flickers, not reliable

There is no reliable option to hook the new Macbook to a monitor. We have two of them and both flicker. Let me know if there is a dongle that works.

My old Mac book finally died so I upgraded, I like the new one but the ports are horrible, had to get adapter and the connection to HDMI I have to mess with to get to work, and the dongle I use associated with bike trainer also has trouble connecting.. disappointing.. all for a little thinner Mac? dumb move

Garbage - use only for displays - USB does not function properly

It's an overpriced display adaptor. I just bought new cables instead. The USB port on this is not good at all. You cannot make changes or eject HDD's properly. It actually causes a lot of trouble. I thought it was file permissions and then I switched to the regular 19 dollar dongle and it was fine.

If you are working/editing off an external USB HDD - use a dedicated USB-C cable or the USB-C to USB adaptor.

    Just Ok

For the price paid, I'm a bit disappointed in this device. I've had it now for over a week, and the "install" pop up will not stop even after fully installing, rebooting, and trying again. I've reinstalled twice now, no change. I'm using a 2017 Macbook Pro 15", and I was hoping this wouldn't be an issue so long after release. Besides the pop up for installing software, I cannot power my Macbook through the USB-C connector on the device. Maybe this is a limitation I wasn't aware of, but I would think (sure, assume) that at this price it would provide just that. nope.
The USB-A and the HDMI seem to work fine, but there's some flickering in the beginning.
Overall, underwhelmed with the device which was part of my hesitation towards "upgrading" to the new Macbook Pro with 4 USB-C connectors... not a fan.

Flickering screen, worthless for display connection. No other options

I've gotten this piece replaced more than once already, and consistently on every macbook (mine and two friends have the same issue), the HDMI flickers, cuts out, and is generally poor quality. We don't have many options on the market, and only one port to work with here, so it's just an ongoing issue with no solution.

Especially at such an exorbitant price, I wish Apple would do some kind of recall, or at least acknowledge the problem every time I struggle to make it through customer support about it and they say I should try restarting my computer or updating my software.

    Doesn't work for me

The computer gets hot when the computer charger is connected to the adapter and even if I remove the charger, the computer still gets hot and start the fans.

    I do not recommend it.

    Severely lacking

Having bought a new Macbook Pro, I was willing to settle with some adapters for the time being. I have always been satisfied with Apple's adapters in the past as they worked flawlessly for both Thunderbolt and Lightning connections. Not this one.

For starters, it costs $80 bucks. This is not an issue if you deliver a quality product that solves a problem.
Next, I couldn't connect it to my 1440p display at work. Turns out the adapter doesn't support 1440p for this monitor - and there's no way to adjust the resolution on macOS if you can't get an image. I had to download Display Menu from the Mac App Store to scale down to 1080p in order to get any image whatsoever. I though HDMI meant HDMI, not sort of.
Next, I had problems at home getting a Dolby audio feed coming through. Meaning, it just left out the center channel. So now I'm forced to output in stereo if I want to hear any dialog.
Both of these issue worked just FINE with my old MacBook Pro, and I didn't even have to buy a dongle for that.

The main reason why I'm so disappointed is that this is unlike Apple, and I hope they will correct these issues soon. Until then, be warned about this dongle.

Works for me, just wish it was less expensive and needs a bug fixed

I tried a different generic manufacturer off of Amazon that had amazing reviews. Not sure what those reviewers were talking about but the generic adapter did NOT work at all in my MacBook 2017 -- very similar to the issues being reported about the Apple-branded adapter (this adapter). So I decided to risk it and give the Apple USB-C Digital AV Multiport Adapter a try. As soon as I plugged it into my MacBook, the OS recognized it and said there was a firmware update. I downloaded and installed the firmware. Voila, works like a charm. No flickering or bugs that the other reviewers are talking about. That being said, I don't think Apple would have updated the the firmware had all these bad reviews not been posted -- so keep doing what you're doing :)

3 stars because it generally gets the job done. Didn't give it 4- 5 stars because: 1. Expensive 2. Doesn't pass through the video/data signal on the Adapter's USB-C female port so when I plug in a genuine Apple USB-C/Lightning cable to my iPad Pro, it does not recognize a signal at all.

    Hot to the touch

When I connect the usb-c power cable to it, it immediately begins getting extremely hot. So much so that after a few minutes it's too hot to hold in my hand. I don't trust it to leave it connected, so it does not work as advertised.

Standing in front of customers for presentation and need to explain why my 2017 MPB + original adapters worthing 3.5k EUR is not working on standard HDMI monitor. Customer: "Look at my Thinkpad - it's working, you simply need to plug it in!" SO SAD! SO HUMILIATING! MBP is not for professionals with lowest requirements (which is connecting computer to beamer at customer) anymore!

    HDMI flickers nonstop

Very cheap hardware. Do not buy this or the latest MacBook if you intend on using it with external displays at all. There is no way to connect via HDMI to an external display without experiencing constant flickering. I had this only for one week and the HDMI no longer works. It flickers repeatedly and makes it impossible to work. Very big nuisance especially for programmers. Apparently this has been an ongoing problem but now it's too late. I already bought the MacBook and have had it too long so I can't return it. This connector, however, is going back. Very poor quality and was $69 when I bought it. Looks like the price is dramatically dropping. It used to be $72 from what I understand. Horrible product.

The USB port just stopped working a few months after I bought it. I haven't tried HDMI, but power is still working. Don't waste your money on this unless you absolutely need to. The basic single USB C to USB adapter works better. Incredibly disappointing for an Apple product.
