    COULDN'T GET WORSE!

If I could leave zero stars, I would. I work for an Apple school and make returns on malfunctioning products. We bought 8 for teachers, and I have returned at least 15 in the past 9 months. They either won't connect or won't stay connected, and the replacement is just as bad half the time. Never encountered a product that had such a contradiction between quality and price. We were thinking of switching to their Apple Logitech option, but the reviews on that keyboard are very poor as well. I have wasted hours setting up repairs for this product. Once in a while, you will get one that works.

Second keyboard that fails on me

I love the Ipad Pro. It's a wonderful product and works wonderfully with the keyboard, until the keyboard fails on you. I have had two, with the same disastrous results.

Buggy most of the time, now not working

When this keyboard worked, it was quite good to use, folding very flat to the iPad Pro 12.9"
around 5 times a week, the iPad would complain that the accessory was not supported, the keyboard then stopped working.
Removing and rebooting would work most of the time.

Now at 18 months old, it does not work at all.

Lots of YouTube videos are able to show us why; the conductive fabric within the keyboard seems to be failing and then the keyboard is useless. Not happy, the on screen keyboard is not ideal for working.

Apple must be aware of the issues, where is the product recall?

It works, but then it doesn't after a while

I enjoyed this product for at least the first three weeks, then I uploaded the beta of Apple's iOS 11. Since then my keyboard has been bunk! It kicks out every time I go into Mail and then I have to restart and reset my iPad. I've done this over and over again. Now my iPad won't even recognize my keyboard. This is the worst product from Apple since those hockey puck-mouses they created for their original iMacs in the late 1990s, early 2000s.

    Great - when it works

I have nothing but troubles with this thing staying connected. It is constantly giving me the error: Unsupported Device then just doesn't work. When it does work it's truly great! When it doesn't it's incredibly frustrating. My apple store is over 2 weeks out for a simple appointment. I'm going barge in there this afternoon and try to get lucky.

If Apple would fix connectivity issues it would be great

The Smart Keyboard has serious issues with connectivity. Not just mine, but universally. It constantly disconnects and you have to reconnect it or restart your ipad. There are tons of people reporting this issue all over the internet. Apple won’t fix it (or can’t) which is an embarrassment. I’ll never buy another one and will stick to third party keyboards which is a shame as the overall design and feel of the keyboard is fantastic.

    great keyboard but poor reliability

I have seen a lot of reviews giving the keyboard either 1 or 5. And I agree with both. I had this keyboard for 2 years and it worked flawlessly, then it started not connecting. The type feel is excellent and response rate is also great. I have used it on a table and I wonder if this kept it from being bent. In any case Apple replaced it as the warranty has been extended to 3 years. So I give it 5 stars for performance and 1 star for reliability. But since Apple has extended the warranty, this is less of an issue.

    This Accessory Not Supported

Come onnnn...this accessory not supported by the company who made it?! Apple should just replace all these defective keyboards for free. I would not pay for another keyboard like this knowing it will have the same fate. I first notice this alert after a software update a year and half or so. I had my other white/grey Apple keyboard that still works better than this. I would not buy another keyboard like this again. I know there is an article online that stated Apple would extend warranty on these keyboards, but when I went to the the store they said my keyboard is out of warranty so no go. Apple must know this keyboard is horrible so using it as a tool to get extra cash. Cash cow anyone?

    Accessory Not Supported...on a $200 Apple Keyboard

The keyboard is an exercise in frustration, mainly because it actually connects to the iPad once every 7 attempts. Although I am using an iPad Pro with an Apple Keyboard, I get the “Accessory Not Supported” message the other 6 times. Connector pins are clean, both keyboard and iPad are in immaculate shape - all in all a throughly disappointing experience, especially at this price point. It is important to note that this issue was not a problem with before I upgraded to iOS 11, which has also caused significant issues for my iPhone 8. I actually quite like the feel of the keys - if it worked more than 15% of the time, I’d be happy with the product. But it seems either the keyboard has inexplicably broken down or the sea of glitches that is iOS 11 has claimed another victim.

The keyboard is not backlit, so using it in the dark is incredibly challenging (on a plane or a bus for example). It doesn’t possess any of the function keys that a standard keyboard would come with, meaning that volume brightness adjustments have to be done by swiping (a small nuisance but still frustrating).

    Great when it worked

Keyboard was great when it worked. After about a year and a half it stopped working. Does not function.

Listen to the Reviews: Stops Working

After six months of working flawlessly, the keyboard began having connectivity issues. The issue has gotten so bad that the keyboard only connect about 40% of the time, if I’m lucky. A complete and utter waste of money. I am left wishing that I had listened to the previous reviewers who warned of this exact issue. Heed the warnings and do not waste your money.

Started losing connectivity after first couple of years

Bought the smart keyboard with the iPad Pro two years ago to replace my aging Macbook Pro. It worked great for two years, then earlier this year (I think) the keyboard started losing connectivity with the iPad Pro - more than half of the time when I wake the ipad and start typing, the touch keyboard will appear on screen while the smart keyboard is unresponsive, sometimes “device not supported” pops up on screen. Have tried turning the device off and on, but more often have to detach and re-attach the keyboard several times, sometimes it fixes the problem for a moment. It’s a lot of money for something that only lasts two years. For those also thinking about getting this combo as a substitute for your laptop, perhaps look for other options / brands...

    Apple Keyboard Unreliable

Like many others, I also received the message "accessory not supported." I too have an Apple keyboard. I also tried the customer support line; did a reboot as instructed, and it worked for 1-day. When I contacted Apple, the technician said I have to get it repaired. A keyboard with a life expectancy of 16-months is not "quality." Apple leaders: You see these comments and everyone is reporting similar experiences. Step up to the plate and fix the issue. Give us a replacement for free (or at least a significantly reduced price). Whomever Apple staff member that monitors these reviews and does not elevate the issue to the leadership - shame on you!

Bad product combined with bad service. Not a winning combo.

Like everyone else - accessory not supported. Given its designed to assist in productivity, this should be Zero stars as it hinders productivity. As a product designer for 22 years, I can say this is an epic failure in product that is only outdone by Apples innability to do the right thing. Just another example of a corporation sticking it to customers by running away from responsibility and accountability. Save your time and money.

IPad Pro 12.9 Smart Keyboard is junk

I’ve had my IPad Pro for for about almost two years. The first Smart Keyboard from apple worked intermittently, it would connect then disconnect. I went to the apple store to get a replacement, which they did. That same day, it was not working properly still. I hardly use my ipad so i figure it wouldn’t be a problem for me. Fast forward a few months, I use my iPad to write papers, and the connection between the keyboard and ipad is not so well. I went to the apple store and they said because it has a slight bend near the magnets, i have to buy a new one. Well, the keyboard doesn’t even align correctly in the first place, so part of the keyboard hits the cover of the ipad. Because apple made a faulty keyboard, its my fault and have to pay another $170?! Bad service and results when its not the customers fault. Apple needs to hold themselves accountable for their actions when it comes to defects not their products. DO NOT BUY APPLE SMARTKEYBOARD. You’ll end up buying a second one. Get your keyboard from a different company, which will be my next move.

    nice typing experience, not reliable

I get the inexplicable "this accessory is not supported error" randomly, and now it seems to be just dying. Connection started to get spotty 3-4 months ago and getting progressively worse, have to re-seat it multiple times, tried wiping the connectors, just failing to the point where it's unusable. This with very light use as well, quite disappointing. This and warranty is provided as an accessory (12 months coverage) not via Apple Care, even more irritating. I'll be looking elsewhere for a replacement.

Accessory Not Supported By This Device... is his

I loved this keyboard then all of a sudden I started getting a message “Accessory Not Supported By This Device” How can that be Apple made this device. I’ve called Apple 5 times and they pretend they never seen this before. We try the hard reboot but nothing works. Now I see there are many others having the same issue. I’m sure not going to fork out $130 for a new one. I wish Apple would stand behind their product and recognize they have a product defect. It’s such as shame and now I stuck.

    Lettering wears off

Does the job. (Don’t buy a 12.9” without a keyboard as it’s too big to hold comfortably). Not a lot of travel on the keys. I wish there was another mm or two. Biggest problem is the lettering wears off the keys after about a year. I have lost E, R, T, A & S, so far. Best substitute I have found is making some more with a dymo lablemaker, but this only lasts a month or so (they wear off as well).

    Really wish it worked

When it works, it’s great. But too often I get the “accessory not supported” error message and it won’t recognize the keyboard at all. Too buggy to be useful.
