Works great but is a royal pain to own

I bought the Pencil to work with my iPad Pro.

It is without a doubt the most “un-Apple” product I’ve ever bought from Apple.
The ability to turn the pencil upside down and use as an eraser - the most natural, intuitive thing in the world - is prevented - becuase the eraser end is where the charging/paring plug is. It is concealed under a very easy to lose cap. Every time you want to charge the pencil - you are going to have to remove and keep track of the cap.

And to connect it the charger, you need to have with you the little female-female adapter that is provided with the pencil. So it’s fish the adaptor out, connect it to the wall charger cable. There is no indicator on the pencil itself as to state of charge.

So after leaving it charging for a while, you have to disconnect it, store the tiny adaptor in a place you can find it later and then replace the connector cap on the pencil.

Did I mention you have to keep track of all these tiny parts for the pencil to work?

The pencil works fine but gosh, the total ownership experience at this price point is a head scratcher - and you would have an expectation of a better user experience than this from Apple.

If you have to get it go ahead - but if possible wait for a version 2 to see if any of this needless busy work is eliminated.

    Needs improvements.

Overall, I'm undecided on how I feel about the ipad pro+apple pencil. For reference, I had a samsung galaxy note 10.1 2014 edition before it broke, and it was way ahead of its time in terms of stylus use. I switched to apple because I've had the least amount of laggy interface issues/crashes with ios vs android or windows.
The good: I'm a student but also an artist, so the surface pro and pencil weren't precise enough for me. There are some really great apps that take advantage of palm-blocking and can customize the pressure curve when drawing. It's a well-balanced piece of hardware and good for note-taking.I liked the S-pen except for how tiny it was. I have small hands and it was still pretty uncomfortable.
    The meh:
-Bluetooth connectivity seems to be the standard for these kinds of styli, but it'd be much better to follow in the s-pen's footsteps and have a stylus that doesn't need to be charged separately. You can't use the apple pencil while it's charging even if it's attached to an outlet, but the S-pen draws power wireless from the tablet so yeah, potentially shorter battery life, but outlets are EVERYWHERE and the iPad's battery charges really efficiently.
-It also doesn't attach to the ipad so you'll need to find a case to hold the pencil and its tiny bits (the cap and llightning-to-lightning adapter). So yeah, don't lose it.
-lack of eraser. It's called a pencil. It should have an eraser.
The bad: Price and durability have long been sore spots for pencil users.
-I got mine as a refurb which doesn't make a difference really. Apple needs to offer protection on these things because the material they're made of is super bad at shock absorption. Luckily I've dropped mine maybe once, but it's too slippery and brittle.
-I've seen a lot of complaints about the battery too, and if apple had a good replacement policy, that'd be one thing, but there's no way to replace the battery so you have to get a new one. If you're lucky, you can get it replaced for free, but otherwise, you pay full price again.

    Would not recommend buying

For $100 I would expect this pencil to last longer then 8 months. The pencil already gave out on me, will no longer connect and battery life is not 12 hours. I did go through all recommended trouble shoot option and chatted with multiple representatives and nothing worked. Not worth what they charge! Very disappointed in this Apple product

    Apple Pencil for iPad Pro

I purchased the iPad Pro and purchased the pen as a natural companion. A few weeks on ... the pen just isn't practical and there are limited daily uses ... buyers regret yes! iPad awesome - 5 stars. Pen - 2 stars.

Awful battery life. This has planned obsolescence written all over it.

Only used it a few times, after a few months not having used it, won't charge anymore. Seems the battery is dead. No replacement possible. The only solution is to buy a new one (?????).

I'm not taking part in this planned obsolescence. No more Apple pencil. At least with the phones, batteries can get replaced.
But the pencil feels like a big middle finger slapped straight on your face with a big "Thank you for the money" from apple followed by "thanks for buying another one".

Thanks for the offer though. Really. Not.

Apple Pencil Will not charge if left unused for extended period

I purchased the apple pencil with my ipad pro back in 2016. I only used it a few times, and then it sat idle for a year or so. When I tried to use it again, it will not accept a charge, I have tried charging from the ipad, my iMac, and the wall charger, none will charge the device. I am amazed that a device I used less than 10 times is now dead because it will not take a charge. Poor design is putting it nicely. Avoid this product at all costs.

    Add to find my iPhone

The pencil is great, I love it. I don’t use my Pro without it. I would love it you all at apple would add this to the find my iPhone app. I had one and it was lost or stolen. I would love to replace it, but I’m too afraid to lose it again. That would greatly improve the entire experience of the pencil. Thx.

Pen is great at the beginning but stop working if you don't use it...

When I first buy the pen, I was really glad with it, I bought it same time with my ipad pro and I tried it for few things and I was happy. But then, I got busy with some others projects and I didn't have the time to use it again to draw or for journaling, so it's stayed in my ipad cover.
But last month, I had the time to finally use it, and what was my surprise to see that the pen was not working anymore... I reset, checked online etc, seems to be a problem with the pen a lot of people are complaining about, some apple store changed it for free, because they know about this problem.
I went to dubai store, they just tell me that yes it's not working and I can buy a new one, as mine was out of warranty, and then I tried in San Francisco, same answers. So I am really disappointed with my really expensive stick that I cannot use. What a shame

Apple Pencil cap solved - ink thickness

Everyone is complaining about the cap being lost and the pencil rolling away, well this nifty gadget works wonders, I don’t even use the cap anymore as I have a silicone cover now. And using this gadget doesn’t allow your pencil to roll away.

    Search this on ali express
Stylish Silicone Protective Anti-Lost Cap Cover Sleeve For Apple Pencil iPad Pro

And my only complaint is when I go to mark up documents the ink is way too thick, not sure why there isn’t more options.

Very very retared indeed and years behind the pen for Samsung pro note 2014

What a nightmare, it’s the year 2018 and the Samsung note pro 2014!

Yes, I have an owner of both! I bought the Samsung note pro 2014 because it has a pen 4 years ago, Finally 4 years later Apple finally gets a pen but it is so rubbish IN COMPARISON! Here’s why.

    1) it is ridiculously and unaturally large with uneven weight distribution at the end. It it a super long clumsy pen that does n
2)it’s super slippy not just to hold this giant clumsy design but also to write with
    3) noisy! Yes because hard plastic to screen makes writing unnatural slippy, it sounds like a bird pecking at your screen
    4) you have to charge it!!! Really ??? This will drive you nuts
    5) you have to keep connecting it, yes they promise you you only have to do it once but of course this is just lies, trust me it will wind you up!
    6) it’s a hundred pounds!!!! Omg they have the nerves to charge a hundred pounds for it.
    7) you will constantly worry you will lose the stupid lid and connectors and a some point the pen as there is now to attach it to the pad.
    8) you won’t use it because it’s so much stress and hassle, and ugly and clumsy.
    9) after all that it does not even write no where as well as the pen for the Samsung note pro, I promise you
    10) you will resent paying for a pen that is such ridiculously high maintenance that doesn’t even perform as well as the competitors
    11) Mean options for writing, you can’t thicken or make thin the the ink when writing, maybe you can if you buy a third party app but why all this complication ?
Apple buy Samsung’s patents or stop listening to the person that designed this pen because it’s trully naff. Go get a Samsung pro note and ask yourself why does your pen work like that...? No need to charge it, connect it, or even buy it!! It not noisy, such a lovely pen to pad feel, very slight tip maybe that makes it really feel you are writing on paper. Come on Apple you have had 4 years to get up to Samsung’s standards with regards to pen technology. ( as well as other stuff) I know this might be hard for Apple fans but it’s true, and a true Apple fan demands that they catch up on technology that has been out the for years in stead of selling naff pens for a 100 quid

    Dreadful product that doesn’t work

Unimpressed when first bought (the way it sticks out to charge - come on Apple you understand design WAY better than that) I left it in the box for awhile. Having decided to give it another go, it won’t pair. At all. Flashes paired for a second, then unpairs. Turned Bluetooth off then on, charger pencil, turned iPad off then on, nothing. Then suddenly it paired, refused to work on any application then unpaired itself. Now residing in my bin, carefully snapped in two (outside warranty). Read the reviews and the forums with keyword of pairing and save yourself some money.

Such a great product yet again from apple. Above my expectation. Few things they could have taken care are :

    1. Bit more rough surface or add a grip,
    2. The surface of Apple Pencil and tip is too smooth but manageable,
    3. They could have made it compatible for other iPad models too

Other than this it is such an amazing product. Things I liked most about this device is :
    1. Precision
    2. Quality
    3. Battery back up
    4. Portability
    5. Sleek
    And many more...

    Pairing issues

I seem to be having the same issues as everyone on apple help discussion thread 7982309. Pairs for 2 seconds and then disconnects - and subsequently tells you it is taking too long to pair when you try again. Apple support leave you stranded if it doesn't work after 1) rebooting 2) trying with another iPad pro (not sure how many of us keep spares lying around). It can take you 20 mins to get this advice over apple chat. Looks like there's no choice but to get a replacement which isn't covered (common theme with apple - I'm also on my third smart keyboard in 2 years). Apple products work great - if they work, but it seems like an all or nothing when it comes to repairs or faulty products - really get the impression that all of this is a bit of a scam.

    Very accurate

Very good device, got it for school notes and has been serving me well. Very accurate drawing and writing in almost all apps. Only complaint is that it doesn't come with a case, but I just use the original packaging and it is still good as new.

    Poor documentation for Pencil

The Pencil box lists several places “designed in California”. Wow. Print on the unusually sized paper is very small and so light that that this user found it a waist if time to look at. Suggest a much much larger text for a web site for at least the safety information perhaps you could through in user information. I expected much more for $100 and from Apple. Over priced and difficult to find documentation. The designers must be so proud!
Based on FAQ I am not the only one wanting more from information. Please think about customers once in a while.

    What a device

Just got my pencil and iPad Pro. Strange thing is I can't put the thing down, it's so addictive once you get going. The only gripe I have, along with other people it seems, is the loose cap and lightning adapter. Both are easily lost.
Once again Apple have taken the technological lead.

Love it but can use some improvements

Love it! Performancewise - it does the job (that’s my 3 stars) but please make it worth the price. iPad Pro users will always buy the Apple Pencil, so you guys dont need to worry about losing buyers, but please think of your customers as well. Again I really love it - and here are my BUTS ———Once you misplace it and it’s battery dies...sigh I can’t find mine since the battery is dead. And I am so angry because right now, I can’t afford to get one. Need to design it in such a way that once it’s not being used, like the iPhone, iPads, and MACBOOKS, power off so batt doesn’t die and put a beep sound and add it to the list of devices that could be found using the Find My app.. For $99, throw in more accessories to it, like a grips in different colors (or better yet, design a textured one for a better grip). Also throw in different color tips and lightning adaptors and the Belkin case with it. Also add more colors and not just white. Rose, grey, gold? Design is cool, sleek, but not practical - it is slippery, will slide on an incline, cap is easily dislodged. Why not a cap that screws on and off and is magnetic at the same time? Also add a clip to it, different colors too, just so that it can be clipped on breast pockets. Hopefully, at least some of these wishes of mine will come true.

After purchasing the pencil I loved this product however in a short 1 1/2 years it just quit working.
Considering the premium price for this product you would think it would last longer.
Did everything right....kept it charged....never dropped.....never wet. Tried all recommendations.
The monthly cost for me over 1 1/2 years $7-$8 a month.....way to much.
Contacted Apple support and replacement cost would be $120.....new they are $129....can’t be repaired.
    Poor product....no support.....
    Don’t buy it.

    Looooove my Apple Pencil

I was hesitant to get the pencil based off the reviews. Well, I went ahead and bought it cause why not! lets live life on the edge. Four months later and I am still beyond happy with my purchase. I use it for my business, my son uses it to color, I use it to journal. I even got one of my clients to buy one and she loves it also. If you want it, buy it. don't second guess it. It is worth it.
