I've been waiting for this adapter for so long

    • Written by Dillon A from Cumberland

Ever since I got my iPhone 6 Plus, I have been using the original Apple USB Camera Adapter to connect it to a USB keyboard. This new adapter fixes all the issues I had with the old adapter. With the old adapter, I couldn't use my Apple Aluminum USB keyboard with my device because it has a hub and uses too much power. With the new adapter, I can just plug in a Lighning cord and I can connect my Apple Aluminum USB keyboard with my device. Best of all, the brightness, volume, play, rewind, and fast forward keys all work. I can even connect a second USB keyboard to one of the USB ports on the side of the Apple keyboard and use both keyboards at the same time. The other complaint I had about the old adapter was that you couldn't use USB devices and charge your device at the same time. This adapter allows me to both power USB devices that use more power than my device can provide and charge my device at the same time. One thing to note though is that if you use a little iPhone cube charger, you may not be able to charge your device very quickly if you have a USB device plugged in that requires extra power. Your iOS device will also complain that a device uses too much power if the connected USB charger (like the iPhone charge which is only 5 watts) does not provide enough power to power the USB device you are trying to connect. I have both the 12 watt iPad charger and the small iPhone chargers, and I have never had any problems with power as long as I use the 12 watt iPad charger. I can use both power hungry USB devices and charge my iPhone 6 Plus at the same time with the iPad 12 watt charger connected. My guess is that this is why this USB camera adapter is said to be only compatible with iPads. iPads mostly come with the 12 watt or 10 watt charger, and people with iPads don't need to go out and buy it, and they are less likely to attempt to plug it into a little iPhone charger. If you have trouble with your iOS device complaining that you don't have enough power even with a USB power adapter connected, try an iPad charger or something that will give you more wattage. That way, you will have enough power to go around.

    Fantastic product

    • Written by Sathees Kumar B from Gateshead

I have used lightning to USB camera adapter and have always felt that the phone cannot be charged simultaneously. This adapter fixes that problem. I use my iPhone 5 and 6 to connect to an external USB DAC to listen HD audio using my headphones. The adapter powers the DAC and charges the iPhone at the same time.

As usual the cable works right out of the box and the build quality is superior.

    Exactly What I Needed

    • Written by Edward Y from Murrieta

I use the iPhone 6 Plus as my main music listening device containing high-res audio files (ALAC, FLAC, DSD) through a very nice DAC headphone amp using the Lightning digital out and good headphones. Once you experience this kind of audio quality it's almost impossible to go back to the headphone jack on the phone.

But one problem was that I wasn't able to charge the phone and deplete the battery during the long listening sessions. That problem is now completely solved with this adapter. I can get the digital audio out through the USB jack into the DAC while charging the phone at the same time. This is especially useful during a long flight (which I make frequently) and/or drive.

For high-res audio listeners this accessory is a must.

Using the USB 3 camera adapter for midi input

    • Written by Charles E from Largo

I have a casio px-350, I connected it to the adapter and plugged it in to my ipad pro 12.9. No problems, after a few seconds I had midi input and output to the px-350. For quick easy work this adapter is great, no need for a separate midi adapter beyond this gizmo.

Works great, love the Lightning power connection

    • Written by Eric S from Littleton

Sometimes peoples' reviews make me wonder if they've really thought things through, you know?

There's a reason that this dongle is generally recommended over the similar / cheaper "Lightning to USB Camera Adapter" -- that's because *this* device allows you to provide power via a Lightning cable connected to a USB power supply (AC adapter, USB battery, etc.).

So, if you use this dongle to connect your camera (or USB card reader) to your iGizmo, and you get an error message stating that your device draws "too much power," just plug in a lightning cable that's attached to a power source. It'll allow you to connect to older camera models, card readers, even some (maybe most) USB microphones.

Oh, and it supports USB 3 data speeds with more-modern iOS devices. Love it!

Connect iPhone 6s to Samson Go Mic

    • Written by Stephen Y from Las Vegas

I am now able to connect my iPhone 6s to my Samson Go Mic (USB) for recording directly into GarageBand or for quick vlogging with better audio than built in mic. The added lightning plug allows me to power the mic and the iPhone at the same time. Pretty awesome.

Great tool to connect a DSLR to an iPhone

    • Written by Stephen H from Dawlish

This adapter is a seamless way to use my iPhone SE 128gb as a hard drive for my Canon EOS 50D while on holiday. With the adapter connected to the iPhone just plug in the camera via USB and turn it on. Photos opens and displays all available images. Select and upload to phone. When free WiFi is available sync the phone with iCloud.

    Great little dongle

    • Written by Connor M from Gladstone

I bought this thing to use with my 2012 iPad Mini, and so far I've really enjoyed it. This adapter works with other iPads too, not just with iPad Pro if anyone was wondering. I would highly recommend this to anyone who is looking to make an iPad their main computer.

    Works great for photo transfer

    • Written by Joe P from Bolingbrook

Picked this up to transfer files from a dSLR (Nikon D700, Compact Flash card) to a 10.5" iPad Pro when traveling without a laptop. This will permit quick editing in Lightroom and also provide a backup of the data on the CF card.

Tested connecting the camera directly to the adapter using a mini-USB to Type-A USB cable. Photos in the camera came up for import In Photos.

Also tested connecting a Lexar CF USB card reader using a USB 3 mini Type-B to Type-A cable. Initially received a pop-up on the iPad that the device would work because it required too much power. Plugged a Lightning charge cable in and retried; import worked perfectly.

In both cases, the files were added to my Photos Library (synced to iCloud) and also auto-imported into Lightroom CC (once I set up auto-import in the app) which syncs to an Adobe cloud storage account. Just the solution I was looking for when traveling without a laptop.

I may find other USB uses for this adapter but it handles the task I purchased it for perfectly.

    Works perfectly to import photos

    • Written by Bruce L from Yardville

Works as advertised. Connected directly to my Nikon D500, it imports photos to my 9.7 in iPad Pro without requiring external power. If I plug my Sony XQD/SD card reader into the adapter, I need to power it via the Lightning port, but it works fine. Even powering from the USB port on my Mac will both power the card reader and charge the iPad at the same time.

You can connect a USB thumb drive

    • Written by Grant G from Johnstone

I have an ipad pro 12.9 (2017) plus iPhone 11 and my little Samsung BAR Plus 128 GB Type-A USB 3.1 Flash Drive works flawlessy with both my Apple devices. You have to power for the thumbdrive to function though. I am using an Anker USB C Charger with an Anker USB C to Lightning Cable [6ft Apple MFi Certified] and it works great. Drive shows up under the files app where I can play, copy etc compatible files on my Samsung drive.
As a test i played some 4k 60fps files direct from the drive and they played smooth as butter.

    Worked as I’d hoped.

    • Written by Peter V from Currans hill

The earlier version didn’t include the ability to power / charge so if it was plugged into a GoPro it failed due to excess current.

Plugging the charger in as well as the camera solved this issue immediately.
