    So ar so good...

Pretty basic but that's what I was looking for. If you've never used a dock for your iphone then you'll be pleased with the added utility. Sure, it just holds the phone upright but now I can use my iPhone as a bedside clock and that's really the only reason I purchased it. If you're looking for something more sexy and perhaps more useful then look at the non-Apple offerings. Either way, the goal may end up being the same and that is to simply hold the phone upright.

Nice dock BUT doesn't work for all cases

Just wanted to post that this dock works with slimmer cases, however, two cases that I have tried that are a tad too big include the Otterbox Symmetry and the Spigen Tough Armor. I switch cases often so it won't bother me too much but I wish it was made to work with slightly thicker cases.

    Major disappointment

Bought this with my new iPhone6s thinking it a neat addition to my office desk set up. Very disappointed to report that after 6 days the lightening connector on the dock simply allows the phone to wobble and no longer charges.
I checked that the lightening cable works independently so this is definitely a design flaw in the dock.
Many have reported on the US site that they share this disappointment.
For the first time ever I shall be returning a product to Apple for a refund and that is a real shame.

Build quality typically good but design is flawed

As ever with Apple, a lot of attention is paid to the build quality. It looks and feels premium in the new metal design. I went for the space grey colour to match my iPhone.

There is one major issue with the design, though. The only point of contact with the phone is the lightning port itself. The phone doesn't touch the dock base. It's therefore really unstable, and easily rocks left/right when mounted. The slightest sideways knock and the connection is broken and the dock stops charging the phone.

Additionally, when I first plugged my iPhone 6 into the dock, a message appeared on the phone suggesting the accessory was not supported. The phone stopped charging thereafter until I rebooted it.

Solid Apple Product, but How Safe is it?

This is a typical piece of Apple engineering - simplistic design, well built and sturdy (it's predominantly metal), with an Apple premium price to match. I bought it for my iPhone 6, which fits it just fine in its Apple case, but if you've got a 3rd party case you might want to check that there's enough clearance around the lightning connector's port to allow it to sit on the dock. The connector is the only point of contact with the phone which should make it compatible with most cases, but it's also the thing which causes me to question how good a design this will prove to be in the long term as any accidental knocking of the phone whilst on the dock is going to place all the strain on the dock connector, a reason why I've previous rejected 3rd party docks. However, in this case the connector is metal which should virtually eliminate the risk of it snapping off inside the phone, but I do still wonder if any lateral movement of the docked phone is going to eventually damage the port inside the phone. Time will tell!

It's also worth noting that you don't get a lightning cable or plug with this. That's made clear in the item description, but it's still a bit of a disappointment at this price.
