    Does not last.

I really enjoyed having the keyboard! I took my iPad Pro everywhere, and the keyboard was very useful. The feel was great. I loved it! However, after a while the keyboard does not sync with the iPad. Shame, I really enjoyed it. I do not recommend to buy it for a long term use.

    Has issues

When the keyboard works it works pretty well. I bought mine in May of last year. About 6 months out I started experiencing connection issues. I contacted Apple and they replaced it as it was under warranty. I am again experiencing the same issues and of course, it is out of warranty. Meaning I'm out of luck and have to figure out a usable replacement. What's my issue? I get the "device is not compatible..." error message. In some cases, which is happening more regularly, when I want to type with the keyboard attached, the screen keyboard pops up and the smart (stupid) keyboard does nothing.Though I have enjoyed Apple products for years I am getting the feeling it's time to go elsewhere for my needs. The only thing I really like about Apple is that they're less likely to get viruses. That's it. It's sad. I think the spark that Steve Jobs provided has gone out and Apple is becoming like any other company, nothing special.

    great at first

This keyboard was great at first after about 10 months it would randomly stop working giving me the following message: "This accessory is not supported". Now it doesn't work at all. I use my iPad A LOT as a graduate student, but now the keyboard is useless. At this price point i don't think I will be purchasing another one of these keyboards.

    Must have!

Before I purchased the Smart Keyboard I read all of the reviews. I almost didn't purchase it because of it "not laying flat" or not "feeling" right because of the material. I went ahead and purchased it. It has turned this iPad into a laptop. I can't imagine not having it. If you are buying the iPad 9.7, purchase the keyboard. It's better than I expected it to be.

    Will not last

It's great when you first buy it but it does not last. Mine lasted 8 months and quit. It was not covered by Apple care and it was to late to exchange. Don't waste your money.

    Doesn't last

Like many other reviewers, I am on my third replacement keyboard. Works fine until it doesn't. My first lasted only a few months. The second started to deteriorate after about 8 months, at first not connecting occasionally - this could be rectified by cleaning the connectors or restarting the iPad, but eventually the problem increased until it stopped connecting all together. Lasted just over 12 months. And now I am starting fresh with number 3. How long will this one last?

    Good for a while

The Smart keyboard is a very good gadget for the iPad Pro, the only problem is that is going to be useful for about 5 months. Mine stopped working, giving me the following message: "This accessory is not supported". It is an original Apple Smart Keyboard, but it is useless now. And after doing my research in the web, it's something that happens a lot. Don't waste your money.

Makes a great product even better!!!

I have had my iPad Pro now for about 7 months and I have been really hesitant to buy the Smart Keyboard because of the mixed reviews. I've been using mine now for a couple of days and I love it, I really don't understand the negative reviews at all. It's easy to use, works great, simply attach it to your iPad and you are good to go. I've used it on my lap, on a desk, on the countertop and it works great everywhere. No, it's not the same as a desktop keyboard, or a full size keyboard on your laptop, but it's great. If you were like me, hesitant to purchase it, I would say wait no longer. It's great.

Stops working after a number of months - on to my 2nd replacement

I think the internal wiring gets frayed as it's opened and closed. I'm currently on the phone with apple setting up my 2nd exchange after any 2nd one started giving me the 'this accessory is not supported' message and the keyboard started working intermittently.

    Good Idea but Terrible

    Hi Apple Users,
Please do not buy this item!!, it is terrible. When I first opened the box I was excited but once I put it on the iPad Pro and set it on my table it had a very big lift!. The keyboard is also very small and it just feels weird, also the Smart Keyboard started fraying 30 mins after use in one of the corners. I immediately returned it by mail. I literally own every main Apple product that is currently for sale. This product is so not up to Apple Standards.

Wish I didn't have to write this review

I love my iPad Pro -- the signature elegant physical design led me to buy a Smart Keyboard. It looked & felt perfect, and setup was seamless. Perfect!
After a couple hours of typing, my knuckles kept hitting the screen when using the top row of keys. I reduced the 'bumps' by slowing down, but after typing a full page of copy my knuckle again tapped the screen -- which closed the text entry popup. I lost all my work.
I started typing carefully and slowly after this, even avoiding numbers as possible. But the knuckle bumps still happened, and smaller work losses mounted. The keyboard & screen config is too tight. The smart connect pin placement locks users into the single default screen angle, keyboard placement and proximity; even a 1 degree angle change breaks the "smart" connection.
This design flaw certainly surfaced in premarket testing. Apple, I'm begging you: not to abandon great physical product design, but to remember your users in making tools we can *use*. I don't buy your products to make my desk look cool; I buy them to do more, create better and focus on my work, not the boxes that I work on.

    Third time's the charm?

The keyboard worked great, until it didn't. The one we purchased with the iPad became non-functional after a few months of use. Apple replaced it. The replacement has now failed too. Presumably, Apple will replace it too (I'm taking it to an Apple store this afternoon).

This is rather perplexing. I trust Apple products to be of impeccable quality. Since this is part of a mobile ecosystem, I have an expectation of robustness and durability. That's just not the case here, very disappointing!

    Love the Keyboard but

Let me say this keyboard is flawless with functionality, it works like a charm. Though after using it for 1 year and as a med student you type a lot. The space bar top layer has faded and on the sides there is a small opening to the keyboard where dust can get in. Also, sometimes it has trouble connecting to my ipad. You would think for the price you pay it would last longer, that's why its getting a 3 stars.

    Always having problem for connection

I bought this Smart Keyboard on 13-6 last year. Use smoothly until Feb this year, keep facing problem of connection and pop up notifications stating that this device is not compatible. No choice, go apple reseller for warranty and wait for 2 days before i get current keyboard.

Yesterday, this keyboard having same problem as the previous one also. I really not having that much of time keep going to change and to claim a new one. Really frustrated as only 3-4 months passed by only. Hope that Apple will improve user experience on future.

    What's up?

Why does the keyboard stop working? Even when I power off then on. Screen keyboard won't go on when Smart Keyboard stops working. Otherwise I like it.

    GOOD however

The keyboard which I am now typing from is really good and very useful. It is expensive and overpriced no one can disagree. The keyboard is really Turing the ipad into more useful tool and not affecting it is portability. So it is supper light and supper responsive. The backlit everybody is now complaining about it however the screen dose the work for me as i am not really dependant on seeing the keys while I type. It attaches well and provide a very good views for writing and drawing inaddition to the watch mode which is a bit unsteady but over all it better than I expected. The built is good but feels a bit cheap for such a high price. It is water proof and more or less stain proof that is fair enough.

I used the magic keyboard before this one for a long time and now I am using this and I am liking it more. It is sexy and more portable.

    Ok, but not great

The keyboard is great in terms of convenience and not having to connect it to the ipad via bluetooth and not having to charge it. But, I constantly have to turn my iPad all the way off then back on for it to work. Sometimes it just doesn't type even when you disconnect it from the iPad, you can't even type on the physical iPad.

    Piece of junk!

The keyboard will stop working. Guaranteed! It's flimsy and provides no protection. Buy and after market instead.

    Takes some getting used to

This keyboard is hard to beat in terms of how it integrates with the iPad; having the smart connector certainly gives it a dramatic advantage over the hundreds of cases that use Bluetooth, since it does not have a separate battery or need to be switched on or off. The typing experience is pretty good, but definitely has a unique feel that takes getting used to. I've used my iPad with a "regular" Apple keyboard paired, and the typing experience is so much more familiar, but it's not as elegant to lug around a "real" keyboard, regardless of how slim it is.
