Can’t be more poorly designed for an apple product

The design of the keyboard can’t be more stupid. The whole back is exposed, leading to unavoidable scratches and dents. The felt like inner surface attracts dirts and can’t be cleaned well. It flips backward so annoyingly easily, making it difficult to open with one hand. I guess the designer thinks the ipad is only used when you have both hands free doing nothing else on a perfectly clean surface.

I had a Belkin keyboard for my previous ipad which provided great protection and easy of use/cleaning. I can’t wait for a Belkin like aftermarket product to replace this keyboard. What a waste of money for this keyboard.

    Spotty at best! Aggravating!

This keyboard is great when it works. I actually have the 12.9 inch model, and I quite enjoy typing on it — but then it doesn’t work! Just writing this review it took me a minute to get the keyboard to connect and work properly. I have to constantly fiddle with and re-adjust the keyboard to get it to work properly, Sometimes it quites between apps, and sometimes it stops working in the middle of writing.

    Unacceptable

I bought my iPad Pro and keyboard the end of October 2017. Just 3 months ago. About 2 months later, the letters were wearing off my keyboard. Then, it started doing strange things like, as I typed, it would start backspacing over everything. Then, it started having times where it would not type at all. I would disconnect from the magnets, reconnect, sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't. I just had to keep trying until it finally started working again. No rhyme or reason to it. This morning, it literally started repeating forward slash marks and I was not even touching it. I think for $160, this keyboard should work for much longer than 2 months! I am highly disappointed and am going to see about compensation through B&H where I bought it. I would not recommend this keyboard to anyone who will be using it daily all day long. It is obviously dysfunctional.
The reason I gave it 2 stars instead of only 1 is because I found it easy to type on. It is comfortable and for small hands, it worked well. Someone previously said the magnets need to be stronger and I highly agree with that as well.

    Disappointing

We just returned our Smart Keyboard today, it had very limited protection for the Ipad and the keyboard seemed awkward to use. The keys were not back lit nor was there a storage spot for the Apple Pencil. Hoping a better design comes along soon.

    Excellent

I am thrilled about this product. Very high quality of which I would expect from Apple...It lays perfectly flat and types perfectly. I'm not sure why this product would get a bad review. It works just as advertised. Joe

No FN key so no forward delete option at present

Maybe emojis are something everyone really loves to use. Me, I like to work with my devices and get stuff done. I like Apple products and software quite a bit, but also use Windows and PCs a lot as well. One of the things I’ve tolerated on the MacBooks over the years is the absence of a real delete key in favor of only backspace. At least you can work around this by using FN+Delete to get a real forward delete key. Not on this keyboard. It’s not only not possible with that key combo that most any power user would know, it’s not possible at all at present. There is no key combo that does forward delete on this keyboard.

Similarly, there is NO control for media playing. No pause. No “next track.” No volume up or down, and apparently, no key combination that will perform those functions. I do not get this.

The keyboard itself seems exceptionally well made. It’s not all that pleasant to type on. I would never type a lot with this thing, but it’s so minimal and light that it’s great to have to dash off a tweet or a quick email. Serious work tool for this super powerful iPad? No way. Plan to pack an extra keyboard for that. This won’t do. It’s. A little jarring in terms of feel on fingers. But, it does seem sturdy, dirt impervious, water resistant, and easy to have on you at all times you have your iPad. So, it’s useful for that. Just not for any type of serious work.

All of the Smart Cover protection with an added ability.

Yes, it might be a bit expensive, but it offers protection and it is surprisingly easy to type on. I use mine with the Tech21 Impact Clear Case when out of the office. When I am in my office I can take off the Leather Smart Cover and set my iPad down on my Logitech iPad Pro Stand and use the Magic Keyboard with Numeric Keypad. This has made an all around useful professional tool for the office and the cockpit where I use my iPad for flight planning and more.

I am crossing my fingers that the iPad pro line gets support for Mac OS or at least cursor support. It is great for productivity as it is, but It has the power now to do so much more.

    Virtually dilapidated.

Not only was this Keyboard overly expensive after 20 months of use (collage student) it not doesn’t connect and the iPad says “ accessory not supported” and YES Apple I did restore my iPad and cleaned the connectors. This is so frustrating because now I have to buy a new Keyboard because it’s out of warranty (perfect timing on apples part) and my hands and neck hurt like crazy because of constantly having to look directly down to type. Oh and collage students usally don’t have $130+ laying around. I WILL NEVER BUY A APPLE ACCESSORY AGAIN. THANKS FOR DEFRAUDING STUDENTS APPLE.

    Alright but needs some work.

Pretty good most of the time but...
Sometimes it will just stop working and the keys wont type. The command H to go home will work but i wont be able to type anything even the letter H even though it clearly works. Other times the space bar or just one key will stop working. It’s not broken i just have to restart my iPad.
The magnets need to be a little stronger.
The keyboard messes up some apps and sometimes i cant click a continue button unless I remove the keyboard from the iPad.
The form factor is good though i wish there were more colors.

Good function with a bit design suggestion

I use the new iPad Pro 10.5 and I like this keyboard 'cause I don't have to pair each time like the bluetooth ones. Really help me a lot if I need to type in a hurry. Also the keys works perfectly, responsive and each keys are well-located.

Some suggestion for the smart keyboard design :
    1. Give more space between the keyboard top rows and magnetic stripe (where the iPad Pro attached) 'cause sometimes my idle finger touch the screen during fast typing. It's annoying
    2. Please consider putting light on keyboard for using in dark place.
    3. I saw the keyboard material is like a fabric / cloth. It attracts dirt easily. Please provide the silicone protective keyboard like notebook.

That's all I can say and so far I'm satisfy. Good work.

    No back support

This case works fine as a keyboard but I got it as a gift over the holidays and there’s no back coverage of the iPad. Now my ipad has small dents in the back of it. You would think for the price this would be more functional, but I guess apple only really cares about design and not usability. I’ll literally never buy another apple brand case after this.

Perfect complement to the iPad Pro

Like many others, I was hesitant to fork out an extra £160 on top of the iPad Pro... but I'm totally glad I did. The design of this PERFECTLY complements the iPad Pro 10.5 inch. It's incredibly lightweight it allow you to keep it attached when you're not using the keyboard part. It protects the iPad screen really well when not in use. A pleasure to type with. And you don't need to worry about batteries or bluetooth... it all draws it's power from the magic connector - which magically and satisfiably snaps together. It folds really nicely offering a stand as well.

If I was to provide some constructive feedback to Jony and the design team, I'd suggest the next version has the option to make the keys glow if needed. Unfortunately it's very difficult to type in the dark as the screen isn't angled well enough to shine onto the keyboard. But if you won't be solely typing in the dark, then this won't be an issue for you!

If you have the iPad Pro, you need this smart keyboard in your life!

Works well...a few design flaws tho

The keyboard works flawlessly with my iPad Pro 10.5. However, I have two complaints about the design of the keyboard and one suggestion for an additional product. My first complaint is that there is no way to prop up your iPad without having the keyboard exposed, sometimes I just want to have the screen propped and use my apple pen, however, I accidentally hit the keyboard sometimes and it can also make using the iPad a little uncomfortable. My second complaint is that the keyboard/cover pops off of the iPad pretty easily, offering no sort of protection to the front screen of your iPad. My one suggestion for an additional product would be to add an optional numerical pad that somehow connects to the iPad or keyboard. Overall it is very helpful for classes and work.

    Not worth it

My iPad stops responding to the Smart Keyboard way too often. If the iPad goes to sleep I have to disconnect and reconnect several times to get the keyboard to work. If I use the touch screen and go back to the keyboard, I have to disconnect and reconnect again several times. A replacement keyboard was sent to me, same issue. I had an appointment with the Genius Bar, they replaced my iPad, same issue. Unfortunately apple support on the phone and the person at the Genius Bar both said they didn’t know of this being an issue, so I have little hope of this being fixed. If you’re thinking about buying one, you may want to research other keyboards, this one is really frustrating.

    Perfect iPad keyboard

Great to type on. Super light and portable. No pairing. No charging. Way better than those bulky keyboards from other brands.

Great till you drop due to case falling off...

I bought this case and I like it a lot however it doesn't always work in all apps. It works in the basic programs that come installed I seem to find. The other issue i had with this case is its a magnetic case attachment. I went to pick it up and the case opened and i of course grabbed it and then the iPad disconnected and fell I now have a small chip in the edge of my brand new iPad so I am not super happy about that. I am looking into buying the new sleeve for carrying so i don't have this issue I am also hoping apple comes out with an update to fix the keyboard to work in all APPS.

    Doesn't last long

It has worked for a few months before started to show "Accessory Not Supported" message and stopped to respond. Very disappointing quality from Apple.

    Works great

When I read so many negative reviews of this product I was a bit leery of purchasing it. However, I went ahead and bought it anyway. My experience has been very positive. This keyboard works great and I would buy it again.

    Heres a real review.

Look im definitely a apple guy over any device and im sure there are some people who arent but some of the reciews on here kill me inside so heres the low down of this case for the AVERAGE PERSON who DOESNT LOOK INTO EVERY LITTLE FLAW OF SOMETHING THEY PURCHASED. So the Key board case is a very unique and versatile cover case that doubles as a key board and a stand for the iPad. When It unfolds from the screen protector into keyboard it holds the iPad at one angle and you cant adjust it unfortunately, but that one angle is good for virtually any situation you are in. Personally i think this feels great to type on its just a bit of a change due to key travel depending on what your used too, if youre a pc kinda person it definetly feels nothing like a mechanical keyboard. The keys are more of a butterfly press feel. Yes the keyboard does lift literally a bit off of a flat surface AND NO it does not affect your typing at all. Also its possible to type in your lap but it does feel just a bit weird. Hope that helps people figure out what they want.
