    best keyboard I've ever used

    • Written by Nathaniel R from Delmar

Coming from the classic A1243 Apple wired extended keyboard, I wasn't sure I was going to like the angle or the depth of key travel. Apple is right. This angle is BETTER. Keys feel great and the whole thing is a little quieter. And after a few months of use, the Bluetooth has never dropped.

Looks and feels great but lacks quality in finish

    • Written by Mark D from Zion Crossroads

I have had my keyboard for only 6 months and the finish is rubbing off in the corner where I rest my hand and use the numbered keyboard often. Works great but the Apple quality is just not there on this one. A finish should not just "rub off" unless it's painted plastic underneath.

    Great keyboard, but...

    • Written by Cristopher M from Bend

I just purchased my magic keyboard space - space gray. As always, love Apple's devices because it's quality hardware. I love how this keyboard is very quiet when I type, how they've added the numeric keypad, the color, and how light it's. The only thing they missed to add was the backlight. It would be cool if they come up with an update to fix this issue and add the backlight.

I had a many regular Mac keyboards prior to this and the space bar is not aligned with the bottom row of letters. Doesn't seem like a big deal but my typos are up 50%. Also the numeric keypad has a lowered "-" button to make room for a f19 button. I keep hitting the "*" button. You don't realize how much you use the "-" button until it's moved out of it's usual place - all for a f19 button which I will never use. I go from 2 other Macs and 1 PC keyboard daily and this is the only keyboard I have issues with. I like that it holds a long charge via USB - so it gets 2 stars instead of 1.

    Keyboard Warps

    • Written by Jason K from Vancouver

Within the first few months of owning the keyboard, it warped. It bows in the centre, so the adhesive feet no longer touch the desk or workspace. This results in the keyboard spinning under your hands every time you try to type, and the back of the keyboard getting very scratched up. Extremely frustrating.

    Needs to back-lie.
needs to be able to adjust the angle .
For the price it needs these adjustments.

Great keyboard, looks good, types good although I think the older white keyboards are easier to write with.

Space Grey worth the extra cost

    • Written by Nate M from Everett

I have had my magic keyboard for about a week now and I love using it. I use it with my iPhone currently (as I don’t have a Mac or iPad yet,) and it is so easy to use. It just... works! There is no hassle with it and it is just nice to use. I also spent the extra and bought the space grey one. I highly recommend. I was going to buy the silver version and then I thought that it would eventually get quite dirty. I do not regret making that decision at all. There space grey just generally looks much cleaner in my opinion as well.

    what if?

    • Written by Richard Eric S from Yonkers

Long time Apple user. Read all the reviews. Understand the different perspectives. I just purchased a new space gray Mac Mini so I felt I wanted it all to match. Don't know if the following is unreasonable, but given the change to the ports that are now provided, I was surprised that the charging cable provided doesn't match up with the ports. Why not make the customer happier by not having to purchase a charging cable that mates with keyboard and new Mac Mini port? Also, my Zagg iPad Air 2 rugged protector comes with a lit keyboard and a separate cable to charge for the lit keyboard. And while I am imagining "what if" how about a blue lit keyboard or green or purple which my Zagg allows for? As for the performance of the space gray Magic Numeric Keypad, I agree with the other comments about the style, action of the keys and would have appreciated if Apple had chosen to make the keyboard special for the price. Of course what one defines as special might differ such that back to simple, well built, reliable suffices, nest-ce pas? I went all space gray and it works out nicely. Glad I purchased pilot lights for as I use my system strictly for music and the keys are a touch harder to see without a hallow of glow from each side of my equipment stand.

    Favorite keyboard I've ever owned

    • Written by John W from Austin

I get some of the complaints out there-- can't tilt/raise it, not backlit, price, etc.

Doesn't matter. To me it is the best keyboard I've ever owned bar none. It looks extremely sexy (especially the space grey version), battery lasts a long time, but above all it's an absolute joy to type on. It just feels natural and is quiet. Like butter.

This is going to sound nerdy, but I actually look forward to coming into work and coding on this keyboard every day.

Expensive for a fancified, regular keyboard that should have been enhanced.

    • Written by Charlie C from New York

Disappointed that our keyboard died so quickly after buying a $12,000+ iMac Pro. As a lifelong customer, I need to communicate that it's time for Apple to increase the value for the premium pricing. You're just charging more these days with less innovation. Keyboards should be more reliable ––as well as water resistant–– by now.

    Keyboard Works as Advertised

    • Written by Chris K from Los Angeles

The keyboard works as advertised. Not sure why everyone complains about the keys not being backlit when you know (or should know) that they aren't by reading the description. There's a reason why the keys aren't backlit. Think about it, it's wireless...

Keys aren't as nice as the old ones

    • Written by Ben S from Auckland

I was a huge fan of the previous laptop-style keyboards, so was expecting the new ones to be as good or better.

    But these new keyboards:
    - Have slightly less depth/travel for each key so are less tactile (more mistakes)
    - Feel harder on each depress (they've lost that soft, padded feel)
    - Have a more clickity/clackity sound which is frankly annoying
    - Feel a lot cheaper to use

If they were half the price, then fair enough but this is a premium keyboard so it's a bit of a shame all-round sorry.

    Feels nice, looks nice but....

    • Written by Larry M from Shell Knob

I gave it 2 stars when it should have gotten 5. I took off 3 stars because of the lack of backlighting. Really? Apple? Seriously? I am really trying to like my new MacBookPro and accessories but this really, REALLY expensive keyboard is a disappointment and just above useless without backlighting. The least you could have done is send along a desk lamp that plugs into one of the many (laugh) ports on the laptop.

Had this keyboard for over a year... came with my iMac Pro. Some keys are unresponsive and really "sticky" (see the MacBook's keyboard replacement issue) and there's really no documentation on how to properly clean the keyboard. Not to mention the price for a replacement is really unattractive...

The keyboard works. To be penalized for wanting a keypad is also sickening. At least now I can justify that expensive wireless Matthias because at a ridiculous price, its still cheaper!!!

    Great keyboard!

    • Written by Laura M from Powell

I purchased this to replace my original keyboard and number pad that used AA batteries (I bought my Mac in 2012). The Magic Keyboard is a HUGE improvement! No more batteries to replace! The keys are very quiet when you type on them. The keyboard lays nearly flat which puts less strain on my wrists than the previous keyboard that tilted up to make room for the batteries.

Initially the function keys wouldn't work to brighten/dim or change volume and control music. I updated my OS from El Capitan to High Sierra and now it works perfectly (my Mac is too old for Maverick).

    Works well; comfortable and reliable

    • Written by Lorin C from MANSFIELD

I first tried two different third-party Bluetooth keyboards for my brand new 2018 Mac Mini, and returned both due to problems staying paired, lagging/losing keystrokes when "waking up" after inactivity, etc. I was apprehensive from reading some other reviews here, but decided to roll the dice on the Apple Magic Keyboard anyway. I am very glad that I did. While I don't dispute the experiences of others, I can only share my own: The keyboard has been rock solid, has stayed paired with the Mini, and responds instantly when it's been sitting unused overnight: no lost keystrokes, no lag. Seems to last at least a couple of weeks on a charge -- might be longer, but I toss it on the charger overnight every couple weeks proactively. My only complaint is the extra cost for the space gray model -- yes, it looks great with my Mini, but charging a premium for it vs the silver model just smacks of greed, in my opinion. But as to the product itself, I am very satisfied.

5 Star Product, 4 Star Cost

    • Written by Anthony B from Sydney

I was hesitant at first to purchase this keyboard mainly based on the reviews. and the price but I wanted to set up my space grey MacBook as a desktop when I'm at home to ease writing and pressure on the already questionable butterfly keyboards that are on the new MacBooks, however. 4 days in im loving it, the keys aren't as tough on the finger tips as the MacBook Pro and they seem to bounce back at me a bit as a type, I personally haven't had a problem with any lag yet and am thoroughly enjoying the experience thus far.

the reason I didn't give 5 stars is I don't quite understand why I should pay extra just for the pleasure of having the item in a colour that matches my MacBook, but I do admit it looks very very nice.
