    what if?

    • Written by Richard Eric S from Yonkers

Long time Apple user. Read all the reviews. Understand the different perspectives. I just purchased a new space gray Mac Mini so I felt I wanted it all to match. Don't know if the following is unreasonable, but given the change to the ports that are now provided, I was surprised that the charging cable provided doesn't match up with the ports. Why not make the customer happier by not having to purchase a charging cable that mates with keyboard and new Mac Mini port? Also, my Zagg iPad Air 2 rugged protector comes with a lit keyboard and a separate cable to charge for the lit keyboard. And while I am imagining "what if" how about a blue lit keyboard or green or purple which my Zagg allows for? As for the performance of the space gray Magic Numeric Keypad, I agree with the other comments about the style, action of the keys and would have appreciated if Apple had chosen to make the keyboard special for the price. Of course what one defines as special might differ such that back to simple, well built, reliable suffices, nest-ce pas? I went all space gray and it works out nicely. Glad I purchased pilot lights for as I use my system strictly for music and the keys are a touch harder to see without a hallow of glow from each side of my equipment stand.

5 Star Product, 4 Star Cost

    • Written by Anthony B from Sydney

I was hesitant at first to purchase this keyboard mainly based on the reviews. and the price but I wanted to set up my space grey MacBook as a desktop when I'm at home to ease writing and pressure on the already questionable butterfly keyboards that are on the new MacBooks, however. 4 days in im loving it, the keys aren't as tough on the finger tips as the MacBook Pro and they seem to bounce back at me a bit as a type, I personally haven't had a problem with any lag yet and am thoroughly enjoying the experience thus far.

the reason I didn't give 5 stars is I don't quite understand why I should pay extra just for the pleasure of having the item in a colour that matches my MacBook, but I do admit it looks very very nice.

Should be Able to switch to other Apple ISO products

    • Written by Domingo M from South Elgin

Gr8 keyboard. Gave up of the multi-devices keyboards from Logitech (all of the way too ugly) & the Matius (after trying 2 of the space gray keyboards both stopped working within days). Went with this keyboard.

It's the best "feeling" of all of them when it comes to tying.

I would give it 5* if it was able to switch between my iPad Pro, iPhone X and my Late 2014 Mac mini. Hopefully, Apple will add this is a future hardware or software update.

Buy the US version, Not UK or International!

    • Written by Anthony W from Collingwood

The shift button and enter button are TINY on the UK and International versions! I assumed the key layouts would be similar, but it's actually a different design to the US version.. I live in Aus but I'm returning my UK version for a US version so I can reach these critical keys.. WEIRD. Check the photos of the different versions carefully before buying!!

Good, but could be better for the price.

    • Written by Christopher C from WINDSOR

I love the look of my Space Grey Keyboard. It matches better with my desk setup then the original white/silver one. And I can type really fast with it.

However, there's no reason why a $199 CAD keyboard should not have backlighting. At the very least, you should be able to use this keyboard in a dark office. But instead, you'll need a light. My second issue with this keyboard is the Lightning port. It's not good for those who own a MacBook Pro with a LG Ultra Fine Monitor (neither have USB A ports). You'll either have to get a "white" lightning to USB C cable to charge it (because there's no Black USB C to Lighting cables), or charge using one of those iPhone power adapters. It wouldn't be bad if the Keyboard came with a USB A to USB C adapter for those with a MacBook Pro setup (which is probably the market for those buying a stand alone keyboard). Sadly they don't. So if you're getting this for your MacBook Pro, hopefully you have a USB A power adapter.

Another feature I wish this had was a device switch. I also use this keyboard with my iPad Pro, and it's annoying to have to make it forget one device, so I can use it with my MacBook Pro. A device switch would be great, so I can switch it between devices without any extra work.

Last, I wish they offered the smaller one in Space Grey. This one is kinda bigger then I need it to be. And I wish you guys would make a Touch Bar version. I don't care if you gotta make it bigger with more batteries to power it. You need more ergonomic options anyways. Might as well make a big ergonomic one, with force touch and touch bar built in.

    Excellent keyboard

    • Written by Eugene J from Sutherland

Astonishingly beautiful and exceptionally convenient keyboard. Aluminum in space grey looks and feels amazing. I love its low profile, full-sized arrow and functional keys, and finally the keypad on the bluetooth model.

The only letdown is the price difference with the white keyboard. The same models of MacBooks and iPhones in different colors have the same price. I suppose that there can be a difference in the manufacturing process, but I am sure that Apple already charges a good premium on all the products and could avoid passing it onto the customer. I do not mind the price itself, but the difference does not feel nice.

Fantastic keyboard. Annoying that it's not USB-C.

    • Written by Michael T from London

This review would be 5 stars is the keyboard came with USB-C charging. I have a new MacBook Pro that is USB-C powered and it would be nice if I didn't have to have another type of cable at my desk.

Other than that, the keyboard is amazing. The keys are brilliant to type on. It looks spectacular next to my space grey MacBook.

    It's ok, but

    • Written by SCOTT L from Marietta

They keyboard needs more of an angle. It's too flat and there is no adjustment. For the price, it should be back-lit. There are cheaper alternatives (non Apple) that are back-lit.
